The next "Percy" is more than likely Jeff Demps out of Clermont, FL...
I've seen him play a couple of times as well as seen him in action on the track...

Well with Lee done the FSU QB depth chart will be DW as the #1 guy.
However, keep your eye on Christian Ponder to challenge for the starting QB job. He was a freshmen this past season but he looked VERY good when he played. DW got hurt in the VT game and Ponder came in, down by a couple scores, and lead an FSU comeback and FSU grabbed the lead for awhile - which is tough in a hostile environment. Then, VT pulled away for the decisive win.
But, when Ponder was in there, considering it was his first action ever, he was really impressive to me.
I think he'll compete for the starting job in the spring and may just get it.

Not really sure if UT hired Applewhite on merit or because he's so popular with the fans in Austin. It would have been a great "damage control" hire by Mack, but that really isn't warranted either. Applewhite was "The Man" at UT until Mack Brown came to town. If memory serves me correctly- Mack benched Applewhite in favor of Simms, when Major was coming off of a "Big12 Offensive Player of the Year" season. Applewhite saved Mack's/Simm's @ss a few times that year as well in back-up duty.
Maybe Mack brought him back to save his butt again when he needs it, I don't know. I know the people in Austin look forward to seeing Major back on the UT sidelines.Tampa Hurricane

Hurricane fans, what do you think about the hiring of Kansas Jayhawks defensive coordinator Bill Young to be Miami's new dc?
It looks like he did a great job with Kansas. In the six years he was there he take them from number 110 when he took over to 12 in overall defense this past year.

@4 OU Ron I'm not really giddy about the hire like i said in a previous thread Major hasn't really proven himself to me as a coach. He did have sucess during his stint at Rice helping their offense improve and helping them to a bowl game. His other 2 stops (Bama & Syracuse) im not too impressed with. Everyone is talking about it simply because Major is coming back to Texas. The Boomer nation wasn't excited when Josh Heupel cam to OU as a coach?
@7 Fanofthegame I agree with you a 100% i don't think Major was hired by merit. True that Major saved texas a$$ too m,nay times especially in the Holiday Bowl that year. I don't like Simms not too many Horn's fan's i know do. It's bad when your QB just happens to choke and throw picks in every single big game we had. I still to this day don't get the whole benching Major for Simms, and i probably never will. Im suprised Major came back to Texas, because of that.

I'll never understand the logic of recruiting. It seems simple enough. Look at and evaluate what you have. Determine how long you're going to have it. Based upon these 2 factors recruit to the resulting needs.
Well, I know for a fact WVU needs LB's, DL, OL, and WR's. Thus far, only 2 LB's, 2 DT's, 1 DE, 1 OT, 1 OG, and 2 WR's have committed; none are above a 3 star (not that this has ever made a difference). What is the general percentage of a recruiting class producing 2nd stringers, let alone starters?
I am sincerely curious of one thing. And, DRAT, I must invoke the power of MGoBlue.
For the sake of argument, lets assume all the Bull $hit surrounding Rich Rodriguez & WVU has ended; Coach Rod & WVU have come to an amicable accord. MI has lost Hene, Hart, a host of receivers, some good linemen, and that's just on offense. Coach Rod's system requires a fleet footed, accurate armed QB, who cannot only make an opponent miss, but can deftly operate a multiple option system, which includes the ability to throw off the run. Who's that guy?
Coach Rod's system is actually designed to feature a pass heavy offense. That the running game has been so successful has been a function of coaching, execution, and the adaptability of key personnel. Still, it is intended that WR's flourish in this offense. However, Coach Rod demands his WR's be willing to block down field; in fact, he wants them good at it. Who will be accepting these duties?
Hart was the perfect RB for Coach Rod's system. Who replaces him?
Coach Rod's system demands an OL who are quick footed, get off the ball fast, get to their assignments fast, zone block, pass protect, get down field quickly, etc., etc., etc. Well, who has MI got that qualifies?
That was just the offense. Who shall be the quick individuals, fast off the ball, anchoring the DL for Coach Rod's 3-3 stack? LB's, S's, CB's??? Anyone?????
Suffice it to say, I suspect next season to be similar to Coach Rod's 1st year at WVU; well, maybe not quite that bad, but similar.
MGoBlue, what say you??????

40 Acres of Burnt Orange, WVU has one of the Top-5 Forensics programs in the country. They collaborated with Pitt (another Top-5 program) to develop it and got a winner. He needs to make certain he has a Strong background in Chemistry. The WV St Police like that. Not to mention, have him check out he Physics Dept. They have a general course in Ballistics, which he may find interesting.
I fully agree with you and WarEagle; there's nothing like college sports. I'll look in on the pro's once in a while (I still like Pro-Boxing.), but college is where it's at!!!
I don't know if Martin Luther King had time for sports. Likely he discussed it on occasion. He was a family man who sad with his family at the dinner table; there was no TV distracting them. Don't ask me why, but if he was into sports, I kind of see him as a basketball, baseball, or even boxing fan. Anyway, with the exception of his memory, we have all been diminished with his absence. Just my opinion.
Maurice, if Pitt plays defense the entire season the way they played defense against WVU, I agree; they will win the Big East in 2008. Of course, their defense will have to play even better against, by that time, WVU's veteran offense. You saw what they did to OK, and I don't think Pitt's quite up to OK yet. But we'll see. As with every Pitt/WVU game, it'll be a classic, and I'm actually looking forward to the fact that it's at Heinz Field this coming season. Ya know what they say; pay-back's a beach!!!

Lennie: I work for myself. Why else do you think I get to post here all day long?? :-)
Let's use your example. Say that you knew every single person that worked at your hospital, or, at least, that they all knew you. Say that they all wanted you to stay and that by leaving, you knew you would disapoint them. Would that make it a little harder for you to leave?
Loyalty is an expensive trait to have, especially when it comes to professional sports. That being said, I don't blame them for taking money thrown in their face. I'm a free-market capitalist. If the money is offered, take it. I have a problem with the system that's offering it, not the employees. Can't say that I personally would want to make a move away from my loyal fans if offered a little more money by someone else, though.
Two good examples from the ATL Braves. A few years ago, Andruw Jones had his contact up. He wanted to stay loyal to Atlanta, so he left his agent out of the negotiations so he wasn't tempted by all the outside offers of richer pastures. some might call that dumb, but I was impressed by his loyalty to the organization. He left some money on the table, but when you're making millions, your happiness has a price, too.
Tom Glavine left the Braves, a team he's been with for 17 years or so, to go to the Mets for a few dollars more. Perhaps his ego was bruised, but he took the money and ran. Years later, he probably regretted what he had done, so at the end of last season, he turned down a much more lucrative offer to stay with the Mets and decided instead to return home to the Braves--full circle. Good. I was tired of booing a guy that I basically liked...
Getting back to my main point, I just refuse to subsidize professional sports with my dollars. It's not only the cost of the tickets, but it's the parking, the souvenirs, the $7 beers and $6 hotdogs. All of it goes into the pot, along with TV revenue, to form the syndicate which ultimately pays out ridiculous money for men playing games--and I'm sick of it.
A few years ago, I really had my voice heard. I was a Neilson household, the TV ratings people. They hooked monitoring devices to all my TVs and literally recorded every show I watched and for how long. Everey night at 3am, the computer phoned home to download there info to the home computer. I can honestly say that I don't think it ever caught we watching any sort of professional sports. Just college football and the history and discovery channels....
40 Acres and Gatorstud: I hear ya. I watch pro football to see former Auburn players and that's about it...

gatorstud, after the Fox River 8 (what they call the 8 that broke out of Fox River) escaped, some of them were caught and thrown into different prisons. How would it be realistic if one man could get 8 people out of prison and keep any of them from getting caught (he actually preferred that some of them were caught, but had to let them join)? The tatoo is the only realistic way that he could remember everything to make the escape possible and I don't see how it's stupid. If your brother (I don't know if you have one, but you must have someone close to you that is male and still alive) was framed for murder because he couldn't pay a $90,000 debt that he used to put you through college and was on death row, wouldn't you feel obligated to do anything in your power to help him?

I can't stand any show that doesn't start and end on the same night. These roll-over shows (eg. Prison break, Lost, Desperate Housewives, 24, virtually any reality show...) are ALL f%$&n soap operas--perhaps of a different species, but all of the same genus.
Contrast that, with Law & Order. IMO, there's a reason it's the most successful TV franchise in history:
Every show has a definite begining, and end;
Every last episode stands alone; none builds on the other;
None of the characters get(s) tangled up in relationships with another (which serve only to cloud the actual plot lines (e.g. ER));
You miss an episode, you're not lost the next time you tune in;
As with all successful brands, you know what you're getting, when you tune in (i.e. consume);
They don't use (b/c they don't need to) cheap tricks-like relationships, sex, or keeping viewers in suspense from week to week--to keep viewers tuning in;
Good guys don't always win, truth doesn't always prevail...very realistic...
L&O...and sports.
History and discovery cool too; However, I actually try to stay away from those two--because once I get sucked in to one of those shows, I'm hooked 'till like 3 AM...knowing all there is to know about some obscure conspiracy theory about something that happened in the middle ages...or some equally obscure species of insect prevalent in northeast central Africa...
...not good.

Well, our "classless admin" as many have called it (myself included) took a step in the right direction yesterday. They held up yet ANOTHER end of R2s contract.
He was due bonus' for winning the Big East and a BCS birth. They paid him in full yesterday. Trying to save face? Maybe, but the ball truely is his COURT now.Diggs the Mountie said:

wvu_lifer,
Trying to save face? How about: The incentive was paid to Dickie for winning the Big East and getting to a BCS game was in his CONTRACT?! Wow, there's a concept.....no?I guess honor and integrity have no business in College Football today.......according to the X-Box crowd at least. I bet that they would even notice that their basement apartments are leaking?

War Eagle Atlanta Post #31, Excuse me for the late response. Payday for bill collectors and ex-wife NOT me! Yes, I would leave because we can remain friends but the cost of living will always continue to rise! I agree with you their are a few pro players where the cash does not control them or I should say the desire to have more. Every time we, yes that includes you and I buy the team's gear we are supporting them. I want to take my son to see Oklahoma at Baylor in October. That is probably gone cost me at least $120. Waco is about 1 1/2 drive north of Austin. The gas cost is included!

Shut me down? Wow, you're clearly delusional at best.
How is me making a reference to someone HONORING a contract put into place and then you getting on here and backing that statement up with your post numbered 78 shutting me down?
I'd still like to hear the "6" donor names you talked about? You posted I think 4 names??? Not 6.All of those names are "hearsay".....and have yet to be classified as legit donors who "have" or are going to "stop" their donations.....

You're the one on here ranting......I'm just merely coming here to try and bail you out or at least steer you into the right direction before there is no "turning back" on this ADMIN agenda thing you're ranting on.......
Just remember wvu_lifer.....When all the chips fall you're on Dickie's side.....You're making the bed....and you're going to have to sleep in it too.

You're clearly lost or retarded either way?.......I think you need to read your post over.
You said: That maybe we are trying to save face by paying Dickie what was in his contract....right?
I come on here to say: "Trying to save face? How about: The incentive was paid to Dickie for winning the Big East and getting to a BCS game was in his CONTRACT?! Wow, there's a concept.....no?"
You know? WVU HONORING and PAYING Dickie what was in his CONTRACT was my point there in that statement. I don't know how to make it any more clearer for you than that?
WE are HONORING "our" part of the Contract by paying him what was set into place.....Dickie is not coming off of that first installment of 1.3 million though.....It was due on the 17th. Still no check from him.....

I see what you mean. I don't know all the minor details, but i do know that rod got a huge contract extension last year and a 4 mil escape clause penalty which was put there so rod wouldn't bolt or at least think twice about it. But Michigan is Michigan and there aren't too many coaches who would not want to coach in Ann Arbor.
I don't blame Rod for leaving in that way. Plus i feel bad about how many WVU fans are trashing him and his family when just a couple of months ago (before the pitt game) he was beloved. Them fans kind of remind me of like a psychotic ex- girlfriend. But i do think he should have to pay the 4 million, because it is part of the contract. Unless you can show just cause as to why it should be voided.

Lifer: Actually, hockey is pretty interesting to watch live. I've seen a few Thrashers games. There's something about the game that just doesn't translate onto TV. But alas, if hockey got too big like the other three, it would suffer the same fate...

Thanks Kev because i was arguing with a couple of my friends on burntorangenation.com and we all fell the same way. That Texas should retire #10, but they said no, because he didn't win the Heisman which we all know now he should have won especially now that all of this is coming out about Reggie Bush taking money. No matter what Heisman or not Vince did a lot for Texas and it's a shame that someone that contributed so much doesn't get honored accordingly.
I have been watching Vince play since he was a junior at James Madison High, and it's such a treat to have been able to see him through his whole transition, but such a shame that a stupid tradition would keep any other Longhorn from wearing the number 10.

#102: 40 Acres of B.O...
I certainly don't think that the Heisman or any other trophy is required for a player's number to be retired or honored in some other way (e.g. "Ring of Honor"). Here's a different question and it's one I've changed opinion on a couple of times...
Should a player have been enrolled at the school for all four years of their eligibility to be considered for number retirement?
My opinion has shifted on this subject due to Emmitt Smith who played three years at UF.
FWIW, Vince Young ROCKS!! UT would not have won the NC game without him and they should definitely retire his number.

Amen Ramblin. I honestly don't think you have to be at the school for 4 years to get your number retired. Because there are a lot of guys with retired numbers who left after their junior year. I mean Texas is gonna retire Kevin Durant's basketball number and he was only at Texas for a year!

Your post regarding the ADMIN was absolutely portraying them as inept businessmen who had lost support of Big-time donors due to them letting Dickie go....... Thus the "We're doomed" approach you took has been quickly shot down by facts that are presented for all here to read....
The article even states that Mr. Reynolds has "not" stopped supporting us......So there's another "Big-Time" donor you had tried to include to your group of non-givers who has clearly continued to donate.

wvu_lifer,
You came on here blasting the ADMIN basically pinning it all on them...I'll even remind you.You came on here and said these things:
"well they let RR walk out over some seriously minor issues.",
"They "forced" him out.",
"Then, they managed to lose several TOP boosters in the progressor as our admin is, maybe they're, uh, just lost",
Minor issues? Might I remind you that he was constantly testing the waters looking for new jobs? He was the highest paid State employee in WV, a new Locker Room is in the works, Study Facility, and his contract was just renegotiated. What more do you need to be happy?I'd get tired of it too if I (the ADMIN)had shelled out a lot of cash to keep him in the months prior and he instead of appreciating that and trying to win Football Games.... he's talking with Michigan "BEFORE" the Pitt game. He even talked with Arkansas before Petrino took the job....But you wouldn't know anything about that now would you?
You mention that we lost several top boosters but failed to bring up the fact that contributions to the program have never been higher...Which inturn leaves the average reader to assume that we are "doomed" as far as donors go
. That's the very reason why I came here and called you out. Tell both sides of the story.....
These last few years have "never" been better concerning all WVU Athletics.....Do you think that a Football Coach is responsible for that?
It's the ADMIN pal.....Where have you ever shown that you know anything that pertains to WVU Atletics???
