Well I was going to say something about States basketball team a couple of weeks ago but i didn't and we kept winning and Im a supersticious (did I spell that right) kind of person so I think i'll just keep my mouth shut until we lose and they break the winning streak. Ole Miss is coming to Starkville saturday at 4:00 (FSN) if yall get a chance yall should watch it. Yall can see what the best shot blocker in the country (J. Varnado) is all about.

OMG!! Florida, WVU, Michigan and ND are all ranked too high (IMO). Georgia, Oklahoma, and probably LSU are all rated too low. The fact that ND is ranked in the top 10 tells me that the Irish mental illness pandemic is still raging out of control. OSU is still a big question mark for me. They're getting back a lot of talent, so they will probably win the Big 10++ again, but I'm pretty skeptical about their bowl game performance (until they can prove otherwise).

KEVIN- have you heard the latest chapter in the investigation of Urban Meyer's recruiting? Allegedly..I repeat ALLEGEDLY Meyer used Tim Tebow on a phone call to recruit this Carl Moore kid. Another violation if proven true.
It's also funny how quick Carl Moore's girlfriend has back tracked on her claim that her and Meyer talked everyday, she of course is now saying she exaggerated lol. As the plot thickens.Zac said:

Ramblin Gator (Post 10), calm down there, fella; I'm in agreement with you. I don't know where FL should be ranked, but WVU at 4th is foolish. They didn't even finish that high at season's end. What with Auburn, @ CO, a continually improving ECU, not to mention Cinci, Louisville, Pitt, Rutgers, S FL, and UConn on their schedule, I agree; they gotta prove themselves.
LSU with Perrilloux taking over should be Top-3; OK should be right there tied with TX, till one beats the other. But hey, that's what rankings are for. We either swear by em, or swear at em.

hey cowbell im so glad to see people in starkpatch care about football again, because there are so many good things about State football here is a list i found on the internet displaying what Mississippi State football means to the rest of us.

6. It is paying $50,000 for a running back who is now in prison. 17. It is maroon, white. Now that's a clever cheer.
18. It is Vandy now claiming "at least we're not Mississippi State" 19. It is castrating a bull before a 3rd tier bowl game. (Wrong. Occured before State played Texas in Starkville. State won.)
20. It is maroon being "the only color that matters."
21. It is moral victory after moral victory.
22. It is having an AD with no upper lip. 23. It is being arrested for attempting to sneak in alcohol. (Ole Miss is worse as far as that goes. Not sure why that one is on there.)

Lay off the Rebels. We did the best we could with what we had, and that was an under-achieving and inexperienced team that couldn't do much but scare a few of the top rated teams in the nation.
We'll be back at a competitive level within the next 2-3 years... might even surprise some folks this upcoming season with Jevan Snead at the helm, and our very legit receiving corps.
...although, that list made me laugh. Alot.
And Cowbell, sorry.. but I don't think MSU will be able to hang in basketball with Curtis, Warren, Polynice, Parnell, White, Williams, AND Huertz...

Not only that, he got beat by John Chiles for the backup spot, and for a while, Chiles was somewhere around 1 for 9 throwing the ball. Snead did pretty well once he got into a groove in his freshman year when McCoy was hurt, though.

Doesn't matter to me. It should be a good game, so far all of Ole Miss's SEC games have been close. Lost to TN by a basket in the last second, and lost to Auburn at the end by 3. Beat Florida at the end, and also LSU.

gOSU27 (Post 24), actually the more I think of it, the more I have to agree with you. Next year could wind up being a tough year despite the talent on hand. After all, Bill Stewart is their new HC; he's brought in a whole new staff. Not to mention, recruits are jumping ship left & right. (One of them may be coming the way of the Buckeyes.) There's bound to be at least a transitional period. Though given the existing talent, I would be disappointed; I wouldn't be surprised to see them drop out of the Top-20. I'd really hate to see that, but it could happen.
Hey folks, I'm with Hotty Toddy. Don't knock the team; the Reb's did win a NC, after all. Knock the "charitable" SOB who obviously has his "Nutt(s)" in a ringer over Sylvester Croom (Post 19). Normally, I'd look at something like that and figure the guy's just putting on the Raz. But given his handle and the length of his post, I have to wonder if something else is going on there. Besides, given MS St's improvement over last season, this guy's got nothing to say.

Cowbell,
We'll have to see. I believe this is the best Rebel b-ball team i've ever seen. I think TN got lucky to beat them, and we completely slacked off against Auburn, that one was on us. I think they're the best in the West right now, and definately in the top 3 of the SEC.

As much as I hate to say it I agree with you, im not gonna say 100 percent but I do agree. If the TN game was played in Oxford it could have easily gone the other way. And theres no doubt about it, this is the best rebel b-ball team yall have had in years. The game this Saturday is ABSOLUTELY HUGE in the SEC, can't wait to see what happens.

War Eagle,
Get ready then. Unbeaten vs. Unpredictable.
We beat the piss out of them in the regular season, and it took a miracle for them to just beat us by a field goal late in the game.
Now with the avalanche of confidence with 10 straight road game wins -- including playoffs, I think the Patriots are in for a suprise.

War Eagle Atlanta, I just sold my wife's 1997 Chevy Tahoe LT for $3500. It had 155,000 miles on it though a new engine was installed in 2001. Overall, it was in good condition. Did I get a reasonable price? Guess I should have asked that question BEFORE I sold it! :-(

Nevermind Brandon Jacobs went to So. Illinois, I don't know where i got that from?

First time members have a sign-up fee of $25 and are required to get a Manning and McAllister jersey. Or Strahan & Bush jersey. There is also a waiting period of 10 days for cookies, maybe longer pending on what type you would like. Chocolate takes ten, peanut butter 8, and any other takes a maximum of a week.
Some restrictions may apply.

I dunno, Cowbell. They had all the offensive power they needed. It ain't like when they lost Horn they lost the entire offense... they have tons of weapons.
Honestly I think McAllister carried the brunt of the offense... and it showed when he got injured. Not a good season at all.

Gee, Ramblin, I would have wired you the funds to buy it at $3500 sight unseen. If the truck was in decent shape for the mileage and there were no lingering issues from the engine transplant, it was probably worth at least $5500 retail...
You guys can always check RETAIL figures at autotrader.com. Forget things like kbb.com and nada for finding out true retail values.

WEA, Ouch! Oh well, my bad. I did check autotrader and it suggested $4600 and that's the price at which I initialliy put it on the market. After three weeks of no interest (listed on autotrader, craigslist, backpage, and parked visibly on FL state road 46) I dropped the price to $4K and got two quick offers for $3500. Incidentally, it was in great shape. A dealer changed the oil in 2001 and put in a faulty oil filter. The car leaked out all the oil and the engine seized, so the dealer replaced the engine no charge (we were shocked).
I'll keep you in mind the next time I want to sell a car. It'll give me an excuse to drive to Atlanta.

That's strange. Usually manufacturers wouldn't pick up liability for something like that--3rd party negligence. If they put in a new motor, it wouldn't even have been worth mentioning to a prospective buyer.
Yea, keep me in mind if you're looking to buy a used one, too. I can find anything at wholesale cost plus--especially if it's something that's not too common. Come on back to the ATL. We can cruise down North avenue and get a few Varsity chilli-dogs.

...and the sound is ringing in my ears:
"whadaya have? whadaya have? whadaya have?"
We got lucky on the engine. She had the oil changed at a Chevy dealership (which is rare for us to do regular maintenance at a dealership) and there was a Goodwrench rep on site when they towed the Tahoe back in after the engine seized. He immediately owned up to the faulty filter, so we dodged a rather expensive bullet due to his honesty.

Ramblin: I wonder why Varsity employees always seem so angry??
I eat at the original one about one time per month, on the way back from the auction. My parents lived in East Point in the 60s and 70s. I was eating at the Varsity when I was old enough to chew solid food.
Last year I bought a book on the Varsity for a gift. I read it before I gave it away. Seems that for the last few decades, the Varsity has been pressured to list the property on the state list of historic places. Of course, if they do that, they effectively lose control over what they can and can't do with the property--they own it but relenquish decision-making. Knowing this, every six months, the owners go downtown and file a demolition permit with the city. This keeps it from falling into the hands of the hysteric, I mean, historic committee...

Maurice (Post 67&8), I doubt TX will so much as entertain the thought of joining the Big-Ten, let alone actually do it. Tomcat, back me up on this. Why would TX go so far as to even consider the Big-10? As for BC returning to the Big East, I have often felt they were a better geographic fit, not to mention, they were a founding member. Besides, not only has the commissioner (responsible for BC’s “defection” to the ACC) moved on, but O’Brien, former football HC, has also moved on. Were BC to consider re-entry into the Big East, I don’t think it would be poorly received. The problem might seem to be a replacement, but there are a number of schools that could be considered to fill the void. C FL, ECU, FL Atlantic, FL International, and Navy, to name a few.
As for the Big-Ten, Kevin had posted a thread regarding their interest in expansion. ND is by far their 1st choice. However, having repeatedly failed in convincing ND to join, the Big-Ten has considered expansion either west (MO), or east (Syracuse). Penn St, a current member, is a poor geographic fit for the Big-Ten, let alone Syracuse, another 240 miles east. Their interest in MO makes sense, given its proximity to the rest of the Big-Ten. If the Big-10 picked up MO, and in addition picked up IA St, again a better geographic fit for the Big-10, that would free up Penn St for entry to the Big East, provided Joe Pa is amenable. (He and Pitt still have their issues.)
Of course, that would leave the Big 12 short 2 teams. Teams such as Air Force, AR, CO St, and TCU, to name a few, could fill in those voids. Were AR to join the Big-12 (There’s been talk of this in the past.), the SEC could pick up Louisville, Memphis, S MS, Troy, or Tulane, to name a few. The point is if the Big-10 wants to expand, there’s a world of opportunity out there for them to do so. I just can’t believe such expansion would include TX.

I would be heartbroken if anything happened to The V. I used to be a big fan of the original Junior's Grill too, but the construction of the 1996 Olympic village forced them to move out. It hasn't been the same since.
Kevin, have you ever considered allowing FB users to upload photographs? I know there's some liability associated with this (I work in the software biz), but I was just thinking about a photo I took at The Varsity that would be fun to share.

40 Acres - On the other topic, you are may be right. Texas may be the only school with Burnt Orange as the Primeary color. However, VT's official colors are Chicago Maroon and Burnt Orange. Not sure if either is considered primary.
Trust me, after encountering Texas fans on Bourbon Street on New Year's Eve in '95 after Tech beat them in the Sugar Bowl, I don't want to EVER be confused with a Texas fan.

We all know that OU is perpetually over-ranked. They are a SPECIAL-ED school. No way in hell they could survive a season in the SEC, and still be in contention for the NC. It's okay though, they always take that season ender ass whipping with aplomb.

Post #113 you said you would rather get kicked in your ____ then step foot in Oklahoma and I live in harmony amongst UT fans in Austin yet I am toeing the line of hatred? I don't get that one! I am protective of my thing and I wish a ______ would try to kick me there! There is not enough law enforcement officers in the state of Texas that would be able to pull me off of 'em!

Lennie i have been in OK many times i was raised in Austin and Sherman (right next to the red river) would i ever set foot in Norman? Hells no. I was talking about some of your posts on here that have toed the line not your daily life amongst UT fans. After being raised around kids who would rather go stay with their grandma and go to school in OK (where you didn't have to take the TAAS test to graduate high school, because they couldn't, and where a passing grade was a 65 instead of a 70), then them coming back sporting crimson and cream and always picking fights with me cuz of my burnt orange and white? Yeah that's why i enjoy my job so much and hopefully one day i will retire with a nice laid back job near the red river line where i could really enjoy pulling over Boomers every day.

Post #118...hopefully one day people will be judge by their character INSTEAD of the teams they cheer for! Have I stereotyped UT fans...yes I have but I am trying to change. That #118 post is filled with extreme bitterness. As one of my good buddies in my church told me Friday, yesterday, bitternes can lead to many other bad things! I don't know if you dislike those individuals you mentioned because of their intelligence level or their liking of the Sooners? I hope that you were sincere in Post #119. Believe me there are some Longhorns fans that fit what you mentioned! Crimson and Cream or Burnt Orange and White. it should not matter before, during, or even after the game! We should be one under God's sun!

Hey OU Ron, Post #121, I am amazed just how Longhorns fans on this post keep up the comments about how Barry Switzer "cheated" and how Oklahoma Sooners fans are the most violent fans in the nation. I would just like proof, that all, OU Ron, something that would back up their comments. The rants would probably be at a minimal at best if some facts were produced instead of emotional opinions! The fact is there is no proof that Barry SWitzer "cheated". There are some interesting "dirt" on Reginald Alfred Bush III BUT I have yet to hear one comment on USC "cheated". Puzzling, isn't it to you? Fact is that no city or person can truly measure crime, so how is it that Oklahoma Sooners fans get this "rap" for being like Post #101 claims. Am I guilty of stereotyoing, yes I am but I am going to make every effort to judge individuals instead of groups. I can get some of my friends who are UT fans to back my sincerity. I have gone to UT games and UT fans houses/gathering and I do not feel like less of a man or fan. I ain't gone lie to ya...I will never cheer for UT but I can show some degree of class. You just got to wonder what was going on in Post #106 mind when he was posting that. I hate pain more than I hate the Longhorns...that's a fact! Take care!

Wouldn't it be funny if Lennie was driving in Dallas and got pulled over by 40 acres? If that's your real name, Lennie, you'd wonder what was up when the cop started laughing uncontrollably...
40 Acres: I had a friend from Tom Bean, TX. I guess you've heard of that if you're from Sherman.

I don't care what sports you're into. Every fan-base has its share of idiots. So, unless you're into fan-base cleansing, you have to deal with your set of idiots. Sadly, like VTBob & 40AOBO's buddy from FL St, sometimes you have to deal with other fans idiots.
While at WVU, I was a member of APO, as service fraternity. One of the services we provided at every home football game was to rope off and protect the band's seats. No one other than the band, band staff and associates were allowed in those seats. Some of my own schools astute fans got into the habit of throwing ice of all things at us. One guy took a chunk to the left cheek right below his eye; required 3 stitches. I took a chunk the size of a baseball to the sternum. I saw it coming in time to get a hand up and closed my eyes. It hurt like hell, but other than bruised pride, I was OK.
Some people seem to look for trouble. Others, trouble seems to know where they are most of the time. I don't know what to tell people who attend emotional games in hostile environments other than to expect the worst, and hope for the best. I think you'll find 90% of the time, you'll have a good time among good people, even if they do root for the other team. Sadly, ya just has ta be ready for the other 10%.

War Eagle Atlanta, Post #123, I am 39 years old and I have been hearing for over a decade or longer the term "Keepin' it real". My real name has been, is, and will be Lennie Collins. I was going to use the name Crimson and Cream True but I said forget it, I gone keeps it real. 40 Acres of Burnt Orange stated that he works in law enforcement and was thinking of moving to Austin. I would welcome his friendship. I would go to his home and I would invite him into mine. I would drink his sodas and eat his food if he invited me over to watch Longhorns games BUT I would not cheer for his team. I would expect the same if he came over to my apartment to watch (a)Sooners games.

Zac, Post #124, that's is where fans like you and I need to step up. Hopefully all of us here will realize that the only true fan base we have in common is that we are all humans! I am sincere, if I saw a Sooner fan(s) assualting a Longhorn fan I would come to the Longhorn fan aid. I would also make sure that Sooner fan faced criminal charges. This violence is wrong and stupid. I believe it is something pure evil brewing in someone's soul to attack someone base on what team he/she cheers for. Pure 100% evil.

Zac: I've seen plenty of bad behavior from fellow fans. It's that 'mob' mentality. Mix in a little alcohol and it's always interesting

It kind of gets back to that thread discussing CO's study which concluded there's an increase in violence following football games. I repeat; what was their 1st clue, and what took them so long as to come to that conclusion?
Lennie, I don't know about the "evil" thing. I've seen a lot of good people do stupid things including physically hurt someone. While it makes ya wanna scratch your sack, it ain't always evil that motivates the stupidity. If you teach your son anything, teach him to learn from the mistakes of others, in the hopes that he won't make the same ones.

#90 Zac sounds like B/S to me, first I heard of it was right here like you.You can tell from my previuos posts that I generally pull for teams from Texas and teams from the old SWC. The general rumors and talk have always been should have been TCU in the XII instead of Baylor. I would tend to disagree with that, because if Baylor played in C-USA, WAC or Mt West like TCU they would have had alot more success than being the red headed stepchild of the XII south.
What kind of record would TCU have if they faced
OU,UT,A&M,Ok St and Tex Tech every season? So when a team like Baylor goes 3-9 or 4-8 you have to look at the competetion. They lost to TCU in back to back seasons, but they have beaten KU ,K ST and Colo and A&M .
As far as UT joining the B-10 kinda doubt it, really doesnt make any sense, of course neither does La Tech in the WAC or TCU in Mt West.
Heck in DFW area there are 3 Div-1A teams and each one belongs to a different conference-go figure.

127 & 128 Nobody is exempt from rude behavior and I agree that alcohol can be a contributing factor that tends to make folks more prone to violence.
Violence is real stupid and there are no winners. Graveyards, Jails & Hospitals places I dont want to go or send anybody

40 Acres - Unfortunately, one of the downsides of watching the Hokies become successful was witnessing an increase in bad fans. I guess it’s inevitable, attracting more fans is going to attract some fans whose behavior you would rather not have. However, it just seemed like EVERY SINGLE Texas fan on Bourbon Street that night was an a$$. Not a single one that I witnessed displayed any type of sportsmanship. I was surprised; I expected more from them.

VTBobb: I think the best chance you have of catching any fan on their best behavior is on their own home field. I think it's universal for most fans to want to get a little rowdy when they travel. When they're at home, they'd probably want to put on their best face, unless it was their biggest rival or something...
Who is VT's biggest rival? UVA, right?

VTBobb chalk it up to a bad night; unfortunately, that happens too. Sometimes you're not even safe in your own back yard. I remember a game between VA Tech & WVU years ago in Morgantown. It was close; it was emotional, & WVU won it. The gang in APO had a tradition of ringing the bell on front plaza of Oglebay Hall right across the street from the Mountainlair (WVU's Student Union). While ringing the bell, 4 older gentlemen (late 50's early 60's) who appeared to be quite sober and in good shape, not to mention sporting orange barrettes, stopped on the plaza and threatened us with bodily harm if we didn't stop ringing the bell. A small crowd gathered as we continued. The 4 gentlemen went on their merry way. To this day, I don't know who they were.
I have friends in Blacksburg; I have friends who got their degrees at VA Tech; I work with a number of avid Hokies. VA Tech is one of only 4 schools I recommended to my son, who studies advanced materials at the School of Mines, Rapid City, SD. I would have been just as proud of him, were he a Hokie. Then again, had he been there, he might not be alive today. Who knows?
Tomcat, thanks for the help. In a world where anything can happen, I still had trouble imagining TX joining the Big-Ten. It just didn't make any sense to me. Though I must admit, I'm liking the new found rivalry between OSU & TX. If kept going, it'll no doubt prove to be a good one.

Hey Lennie i know you think i was saying hateful things (which i wasn't) and that i wish to inflict bodily harm on sooners and aggies (i don't) The last 2 shootout's i have worked i have had drunk sooners fans screaming at the top of their lungs about this far from my face. Can i do anything about it? No. Was i upset yes? So i guess the spectrum about judging fans is a little different for me. My wifes best friend and her husband are huge Boomers and are good people. So i do have friends from the "other" teams. Plus if you want to call someone a fool than be prepared for what they might have to say in return. I have been called a fool by many for getting my degree from UT and instead of working some office job making 6 figures a year i became a cop. Why? I want a job where i can help people and make a difference. So like you said Lennie we are all human no matter what colors we wear.
VTBob you are right every team have those fans that embarass the hell out of you. Unfortunately every team with any amount of success does. Didn't mean to rat on VTech specifically. Except the whole Sugar Bowl thing came to mind.
Tomcat i know i don't remember saying anything about Switzer (suprisingly) Lennie just likes throwing that in there i guess.
OU-Ron thats whats so great about this site just one post can set off a chain reaction of post's.
Lennie yes USC cheated and i think they should pay the consequences especially #5. Even though that would be kind of crappy if the Heisman was stripped from Bush and handed to VY by default. Definately not the way you would want to win a Heisman.

40 Acres: I think that if the Heisman was taken from Bush, it would remain vacated. Being an individual award, no other athlete would want to step up and claim it. Even if it was re-given, I doubt Young would take it. He'd get no respect if he did, all the respect if he didn't.
But on the other hand, if USC had to vacate the title in 2004, I think that void would be filled. Being that the title is mythical at best, and considering that there were over 40 selectors in play, you can bet that another team would be anoited and would claim it. Having seen the lengths some programs go to to embellish their resumes, there's no way that the title would be simply vacated.
Hmmm... Were there any other deserving teams in 2004 that might be worthy???
