Julio Jones is expected to choose his school at noon. Several people I know close to the situation in Bama tell me they have a strong feeling it's down to FSU and Bama with FSU having a very strong chance of pulling off the upset.
Beating out Bama and OU for a stellar recruit is no easy task.
All I can do is cross my fingers for the next 2 hours haha

1.) The U
2.) Kansas
3.) Mark Richt (former Hurricane QB, you know)Canes have cleaned house at Miami Northwestern. With all of the other commits, a lack of playmakers and lesser talent won't be the reason we don't get back on top. It's time to see Coach Randy's abilities, Nix's true playbook, and Bill Young's skills with better talent than he had at KU.

2. SEC team that benefits UF (e.g.--Vandy, when
if they play UT or UGA, and we're in 3

Auburn was the beneficiary of one last year, after we started 1-2 on the year. That thread lent it's name to the phenomenon:

Notre Dame got quite a few last year, as you can imagine. They seem to get the most, but everyone hates Notre Dame, so it's okay.... :-)

1) Guesses anyone... Why it’s got to be West “BY GOD” Virginia (Waz there ever any doubt?)
2) I'm torn between FSU, Penn St, & VA Tech.
3) Again, it's a 3-way tie: Bobby Bowden, Joe Paterno, and Tom Osborn (Inactive coaches acting as AD's are OK, right?)
On the recruiting side of things, WVU may not wind up with a top-20 class, but they're picking up some fine young men to help with the defensive side of the ball. I like what I'm seeing so far.

Our OL is looking nice too, JJ (Josh Jenkins) a five start from my hometown of Parkersburg signed earlier this A.M.
Side noteaboutthat: EVERYONE knew it was down to FSU and WVU. So when he comes to the table with two hats in hand, one of which was NOT FSU, people started trembling. Then the two hats hit the table, WVU and UM..........The place almost erupted, because we knew he wasn't going to UM.Oh, we also got Coley White (Pat's little bro), and a bunch more. WVU_Lifer, thanks for the info. I'm glad to see JJ decided to stay home. I knew about Coley; 2 things concern me about him: size, and "shadow syndrome”.
Size: He's 6'1", but only 165lbs; he does have great speed (4.45 sec in the 40), but I think he may have to bulk up a bit.
Shadow Syndrome: I sincerely hope he doesn't get a lot of "...Pat White's..." brother BS; that can get on a younger siblings nerves. Not to mention, there's the higher expectations placed on him because of how good his brother is.
I've got to help conduct a tour at my power plant today. So, I'll be checking in later.

When he joined the Colts after college, he a negotiated a contract stipulation that allowed him to use ground transport to games within a certain distance from Indy...

C-Dogg: Sorry, not enough info to determine if you were originally a bandwagoneer, but after 24 years, I'd say you've transitioned over.
To clarify, I'd say that if you meet most of the criteria below, you qualify as a Bandwagon fan:
1) Never attended school there.
2) Not from the same state or close geographic region.
3)NEVER HAVE SEEN A LIVE GAME ON CAMPUS.
4) Only liked teams from the past, not current ones.
5) You don't watch at least 75% of the games available on TV.
6) You don't own any clothing with your colors/brand/logo.
7) After a loss, you are able to put it behind you within 24 hours.
8) You decide to take rebuilding years 'off' from being a fan.
9) You never committed even one small act of vandalism during the season, even if it was just sticking a Rainbow Sticker on someone's bumper next to their Roll Tide sticker...(Honest, Big Tide, THAT wasn't me!)
10) If in lieu of going to watch a live game, you've never congregated with fellow homers at a bar to watch it.
Did I leave any out??

Was at a golf tournament in Jasper, Alabma last summer and could not resist putting a couple of "S The Coach" stickers on the cars of two of my buddies who went to Auburn. #53 TE, not sure, but I'm guessing that you are implying that Rivals might have a bias towards Bama? The answers are:
Rivals was founded by a convicted felon and HUGE 'Bama homer...
It was stocked-purposefully-before he sold it to Yahoo! Sports with Bama homers in the position of talent evaluators...One of which was fired because of ineptitude shortly after national rankings for this year's class came out.
Of course I'm going to look like Mel Gibson in Conspiracy Theory here, but's its documented fact that they added two *'s to a kids ranking the day after he signed with 'Bama last year...
The bottom line is that in one service, we're #2, the other, we're #5, and in Rivals, we're #10...and Bama's #1...

If by TP you mean Terrell Pryor, the answer is yes--the kid's the real deal. I saw him play in c'ship game this year (visiting wife's family). I'm confident that he'd be as successful in Florida.
Another point: Florida is better known for producing skill position players (e.g. Emmitt Smith, Michael Irvin, Fred Taylor, Deon Sanders...); this pryor kid reigns from the "craddle of qb's" which has yieled George Blanda, Johnny Unitas, Joe Namath, Jim Kelly, Dan Marino, Joe Montana and a few others.

Today every 5 or 4 Star recruit is headed for college glory and fame in fortune in the NFL but it doesn't always happen that way. Over at Scout they listed some of the 5 Stars from 2004 that just never made it. Short list: Xavier Lee (FSU)wanted to play QB but should have been playing RB or defense. Xavier Carter (LSU) football was too physical so he turned to track, Willie Williams (Miami) criminal behavior, Jeff Byers (USC) injured.
Reminds me of when Alabama signed Lenny Patrick over Bo Jackson back in the day. Lenny was Mr. Everything coming out of Walker High School in Jasper, Alabama and few people had ever heard of Bo. Well, as they say, the rest is history......

I understand why he would want to go to Michigan, Oregon and Ohio State...but why Penn State? A&m has the most loyal fans? Maybe because they know they are the bastard step child of Texas. Before 1940 the faggies actually won a national championship and a heisman trophy winner, and they were the "kings" of Texas college football until 1960.
Since then Texas has won 4 national championships and had 2 Heisman Trophy winners (should have been 3.) And ATM has had exactly 0 of either. so maybe one day they can get over the fact that THE University of Texas will always be their abusive step-daddy.

U. of S.C,
Thanks for the info. Sounds like he'll be a great addition to our staf.
Side note, i used to live in Rock Hill, SC and grew a foundness for Gamecock football and Winthrop Basketball. Anyone bold enough to dawn a shirt that says: "You can't lick our 'Cocks" is alright with me.
Thx again!Bevo Boy said:

Anyone else (particularly Big XII fans) curious about the SEC dominance statements? What do you have to do to be considered better than the SEC?

1) Alabama Crimson Tide
2) Florida State Seminoles
3) Mark RichtTE:
This just in: The University of Alabama just invented a way to brainwash people into believing the Crimson Tide recruiting class is better than it really is. They say this new technology has affected writers of college football recruiting and has forced them into adding "stars" to high school players planning to sign with Alabama.I guess this is your reasoning as to why Alabama won the recruiting title on Rivals AND Scout.
My guess would be you still have hard feelings towards my man Saban, but whatever. Believe what you want..the fact of the matter is Bama has some pretty darn good talent coming in, and everything is going to change. :)

Can't imagine why nobody has put Charlie Weiss as their answer to number three. He is showing Nick Saban how to lose with good talent. Just wait until next year, both under .500 with top 10 recruiting classes (just a prediction, I haven't gotten out the Magic 8-ball yet).

Bama Babe has TE pegged.Congrats on a great recruiting year.
I think Auburn may have taking the award for losing the most recruits.I think we dropped from 15 to around 20 in one day. Still landed a couple big time recruits.

Hey C-Dogg, I've been celebrating all day man! What a class... I was literally jumping up and down in my living room when I saw that Streeter had picked us and that Ray Buchanon switched back...
Even with the anti-Miami bias, ESPN has us at Number 1. Not bad at all :-D

Thanks Autigerman. Should be interesting to see the results in the fall!
Lol, but for the most part, AU's recruiting class was pretty solid...as always...Bevo,
My point to TE was that there are others than the "biased" Rivals that has Bama #1. I wasn't saying that Bama has the best class and everybody else's suck.Bevo Boy said:

Bama Babe, I'm just saying I don't think these guys will be quite as good as Rivals/Scout say they are. Bama fans might be eating their words just like Hotty Toddy and that infamous comment #28 (ask Cowbell about that, if at all interested).

BevoNot sure how anyone including ESPN couldnt say Bama had best recruiting class so far.
However i will say this. You cant really judge a recruiting class for a couple years. Some of the kids wont even academically qualify.
Thats what happened to AU when we signed Erique Davis two years ago. He had to go to prep school and then changed his mind.

Autigerman, I see what's goin on here, you're trying to be a gentleman in front of Bama Babe so you're already making excuses for her if her team doesn't do well, right? Just kidding, but seriously, last year's recruiting class for Bama should at least make an impact this year. Maybe not their full potential, but at least close.

Well if your just talking about Bama they have actually been recruiting very well for 4 years now.
I think they just didnt have the coach to pull it together. They have a pretty good coach now so could get interesting before we can beat the 9 in a row....lolIm affraid i could never score too many points with Bama Babe, besides she pulls for the wrong team. But it is cool to talk football with her. I hope she sticks around.

I'm curious as to why you think these recruits won't be as good as Scout or Rivals say. Did you personally go out and evaluate all of Bama's recruits?
If either of these two had put Texas at #1, I think you would be singing a different tune.

I agree with the "absurdity" of an out of state annexation. Haven't heard anything on that in a while. I guess it was so stupid the idea went away. If SC has any territorial practice advantage, it is heat and humidity. The city of Columbia is in a sort of small bowl, there tends to be an inversion layer overhead. That layer contains and concentrates the heat and humidity. Hotter than hell in the summer. Coach should work them till they drop in that. It's not exactly the famed "mile high" advantage, but it's something to consider, lol.

You're right. We'll see how good this class really is in the next few years, and hopefully prove Bevo wrong ;)And Bevo, considering the slump Alabama has been in lately, being ranked #1 on ANY of the recruiting sites is some reassurance to us Bama fans. Like I said, I'm not acting like we won the national championship, I'm just glad we're getting back on the road leading to it. It may be many miles away, but at least the car is in drive. :)

I see...So ESPN knows the needs of every team.
Bama was in need of a couple of defensive lineman, a couple of cornerbacks and safeties, and also a couple of O-lineman. We filled those needs with 4 and 5 star kids. Not to mention we scored a couple of 4 star running backs, along with a 3or4 star q-back. Oh, and I forgot to mention a 5 star wide receiver, along with a cornerback who shut down said wide receiver in the Alabama-Mississippi all-star game.
Like BamaBabe, I'm not crowning Bama the National Champs of anything. All I'm saying is Nick Saban picked up almost every kid he wanted. I'm sure he knows more about filling Bama's needs than the dorks over at ESPN do.

Have I mentioned lately how big of a moron darrell scott is? Choosing CU, because he was worried about Major Applewhite taking over as RB coach? What as joke! I can't wait to watch this moron fall flat on his face.
By the way heres a shout out to the Texas Basketball team who last night went into Norman and whipped some Sooner a$$ 64-54! Oklahoma even had Coach Rick Barnes staying in the "Bob Stoops Suite"! Way to stay classy OU!

40 Acres of Burnt Orange, why are you so pissed about Darrell Scott chosing Colorado over Texas? If the kid wants to play for Colorado, by all means its his choice. The kid shouldn't be criticized for chosing where he wants to attend college for the next for years of his life. Its his choice. You have to look at it from that perspective. And even though you may be quite mad, just remember Scott is still a kid. And yeah, Texas beat OU in Norman. It happens. OU's basketball team is still young and they should improve overtime. OU just got out hustled. The Sooners had a pretty big lead at one point, but they couldn't keep it. Thats basketball. And what do you mean by "Oklahoma even had Coach Rick Barnes staying in the "Bob Stoops Suite"!" BOOMER SOONER!

To finish my thoughts on recruiting and Saban...I notice NONE of you 'Bama fans mentioned the goings on of the Red Elephant Club this past season...Very interesting, and telling, as well.
But, you guys are correct...You hauled in a great recruiting class, and it will pay off in the long run, but it's not going to change anything in the West...
My opinion is that we will continue to dominate the West, but the power struggle underneath us will result in Auburn declining and Alabama taking their place. With Ole Miss getting a VAST upgrade in Nutt & Croom putting MSU on solid footing again, there aren't anymore gimmes. Petrino will be back to respectability by Year 2, which means that the West-after LSU, of course-is going to be an absolute DOGFIGHT after the 1st and 2nd spots...Lots of jostling...
The problem is, Auburn's success has been due to Alabama's decline. With Saban's arrival, they will cease the leaky recruiting classes of the past, and they will get the talent in-state that they want. Auburn will get theirs, but not enough to compete long-term.
The problem is that Auburn's not going to stand for it. They've gotten a taste of national respectability as an elite program both in the conference and nationwide. They're not going to recede back into the woodwork from whence the whittled themselves out of whilst Bama's Crimson Tide was washed out...
Which means-if I'm reading the tea leaves properly (I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night)-the state of Alabama is going to become a battlefield strewn with coaching careers, football soldiers of fortune, with the future of two SEC West Football Powers hanging in the balance.
It's probably WAY more than enough to land a program or two back on probation if people aren't careful...
LSU will sit back, collect another class full of 4* kids out of Florida (We had three this year, with one 5* in Patrick Johnson), and all 14 kids we offered in state (we offered 14; we signed all 14). We'll dominate, and keep it CLEAN doing so. It'll translate onto the field, as well.
So, as I said...Better look into the Red Elephant Club and make sure its nose is clean. You also better find out what Lance Thompson was doing at LSU in New Orleans that caused him to have to take a job elsewhere (not at Saban's call, but at Sam Nader/Skip Bertman's direction), and why he came back so very quickly once Saban returned to the collegiate ranks in Tuscaloser...
Things will be different, but when you say different, I think what you mean is 8-9 wins regularly, different...
