Why is it called the Big Ten when there are Eleven teams in the conference? Rename it the Big 11 doggone it!

I'd like to answer your questions, Lennie. Here goes:

    1) Good and evil are the polar opposites representing the extremes in behavior chosen by humans. All things exist between the two poles; sometimes existing exactly on them.

    2) Easy one. The sky is blue because of all the colors in the visible spectrum of light, blue is the easiest to see. Therefore, when sunlight shines upon the earth, the sky above us looks blue.

    3) Why is the world round? Gravitational forces help shape the earth as it pulls in on itself, due to the rotation of the planet on it's axis. Think about a lump of clay on a turning wheel. It will eventually bulge at it's equator, or the middle of it.

4)Why can't we all get along? Conflict is one of the primary definitions of human interaction. It's inherent. We can strive against it, but will never acheive it.

    5) Why ask why? Well, because... Wait a minute. You were asking those questions rhetorically. You didn't really want them answered, did you?

Bleeeeeeeeeeep! Sorry, C-Dogg. That's the feedback from your mic-check. Can you turn it down a little bit? Bust my eardrums...

Lennie: In the future, when you mention the Big Ten conference, you must notate it the following way: Big 10(11) The (10) is the conference name, but the (11) represents the actual number of teams. This way, no one gets confused.

The rest of you, feel free to adapt that notation as well...

Your answer to #2 was kind of vague. A more accurate answer would have been........

Light travels through the air in a straight line until it runs into a dust or gas molecule. Then what happens depends on the wavelength and the size of the thing it hits. Since dust and water molecules are larger than the wavelength of visible light, the light reflects of off of it. Gas molecules are smaller than wavelength of visible light so they absorb some of the light. After a while, the gas molecules give off the light in a different direction. All light can be absorbed, however the light waves with the higher frequencies and shorter wavelengths (Blues)are absorbed more often than the waves with lower frequencies and longer wavelengths (Reds). This process is called Rayleigh Scattering. It is named after Lord John Rayleigh, an English physicist who first described it in the 1870’s.

The sky is blue.....…because of Rayleigh Scattering. As light passes through our atmosphere, most of the longer wavelengths pass straight through. Little of the red, orange and yellow light is affected by the molecules in our air. However, much of the shorter wavelengths are absorbed by the gas molecules. The Blue light is absorbed and then radiated in different directions and scattered all over the sky. Since you see blue light from everywhere, the sky looks blue.

So Urban Meyer dies and goes to Heaven. God says "Urban, you've been a good boy. We have a place in Heaven for you."

So they take a short walk and stop in front of a small house. The grass needs cutting, maybe some paint, half of the fence is broken. It's a one bedroom house, rather modest - nothing fancy.

So Urban is humbled because he made it to Heaven in the first place (see recruiting violations...lol) and thanks God for it. He's not overly impressed with his eternal home but with a little elbow grease, the place will be nice.

Then they walk some more and pass by a huge mansion.....6 large columns out front, 4 stories, spread over 10 beautifully manicured acres, driveway made of gold and Purple/Gold flags flying from the tops of each column.

Urban is impressed and just has to ask: "God, I'm very happy with my eternal home, but why does Les Miles deserve such a huge mansion and I don't?"

God said: "That's not Les Miles' mansion....That's mine.

A Gator fan dies and his soul enters heaven. Upon entry, God assigns him an angel to give him a tour. The angel, noting that the recently deceased is a Gator fan, volunteers to show hime around where the SEC people like to congregate.

As they passed the grand entry foyer of the first room, the angel notes that this is where the Alabama fans gather. Later, they pass the Florida room and the angel mentions that this is where the Gator fan will want to spend time.

They passed the next room and the angel said nothing, so the Gator fan started to ask the nature of this room, but the angel immediately shushed him. After they were well past the room, he explained...

"That's where we keep the LSU fans. They like to believe they're the only ones up here."

Yes, GH, Bryant the Bear is still workable. In addition to having the live mascot running around(which reminds me: do we really have a live-live bear, or do we get a guy in a costume? Probably the latter, since potential bear attacks would increase the liability premium substantially on the bottom line)

Anyway, in addition to having the mascot, we market Bryant the Bear (TM)action figures to sell to all the young Bammers out there. Based on the original 12" GI Joe model, he could be an action figure, with kung-fu claws, and covered in fur reminiscent of that on the head of GI Joe.

We could make a fortune selling seperatly all the various accessories that go with Bryant the Bear, such as:

--The Bryant the Bear Tahoe, leased to Bryant by Tuscaloosa Pontiac/GMC/Saab. "Ya'll come down and see us!"

--Willy Joe, a companion figure who's Bryant's top recruit and number one target of disciplinary action...

--Obligitory pack of smokes, bottle of Bourbon, and plaid jacket collection...

--Action Road block and DUI checkpoint, complete with police figures. Watch Bryant cruise right on through, because he's the BEAR!

What else have I left out??

    :-)

#28: Lennie, I heard that Bo Schembeckler once suggested replacing those ugly helmets to a room full of UM alumni, was acknowledged with angry stares and complete silence, and the subject hasn't come up again. In general, sticking with ugly/plain helmets seems to be a choice of tradition over style/taste/appeal. Georgia Tech used to be a member of the SEC and dropped out several decades ago.

    All right boyzzzzz,

Who should the Dolphins draft 1st overall in April? (assuming they DON'T trade it away)

.....and give me your top five picks per team.

1)Dolphins - Glenn Dorsey (DT)LSU (Dorsey will dominate in any type of Deffense....even the 3-4)

2)Rams - Jake Long (OT)Michigan (PROTECTION: Bulger's sh*t was pushed in more than any other QB in '07)

3)Falcons - Darren McFadden (RB)Arkansas (Yeah, Matt Ryan looks good here, but hey, Adrian Peterson thrived without a QB in Minnasota)

4)Raiders - Sedrick Ellis (DT)USC (Sapp's retired, McFadden & Dorsey should be gone. Eventhough they will probably trade....they need to solidify the deffense to help JaMarcus Russell settle with the offense)

5)Chiefs - Ryan Clady (OT)Boise St (The Chiefs obviosly need O-line...period! I know this pick also has trade written all over it b/c the 5th pick is to low for him. The Chiefs will still get Clady, but they will trade down to around 9 or 10 knowing he will still be there.)

ATTENTION: to all the Glenn Dorsey doubters for the #1 overall pick.......enjoy!

Gatorstud (Post 11), nice try, my friend, but Sol be a G-Type Star, which is Yellow, not orange. Given this fact, and the color of the sky, the only 3 teams which come close are Akron, Cal, and Toledo. So, if God indeed had anything to do with it, as opposed to Lord Rayleigh, God smiles on them.

Speaking of Mascots, has anyone else noticed WVU's Mountain Man Mascot doesn't sport any of WVU's colors a'tall?

TE (Post 21), now that deserves a "That's funny right there...", if ever a post deserved one.

I have no doubt Dorsey & McFadden will be drafted within the 1st 10, if not the 1st 5. I would like to see WVU's Owen Schmidt get drafted. I know there's at least one team from the Big 12 that's glad to see him go.

Seems to me just about every yellow spanning the spectrum from Lemon to Zesty Mustard has been used to represent Gold at WVU. Ya take the good with the bad.

I would take Chris Long first if I were the Dolphins. Actually, I'd probably take Matt Ryan since they need a QB so bad, but I know Parcells will go defense, and Long is a very safe pick. Contrary to what some believe, I feel that he will also have a better career in the NFL than Dorsey. Not to say Dorsey won't have a good or maybe even great career, but I think Long's will be better.

wvu_lifer: Bryce Brown is listed as our guy right now, not Miami's. I really don't care what he wears on his head right now, as long as it's orange with white tiger paws on it in the future. Behave and run the ball well, and I don't care what you look like.

In other words if the Texas Longhorns were in the same position I would not agree that should happen to them. If William Brown kicked the starting quarterback and offensive lineman off the team and YOUR SQUAD WAS FAVORITE TO PLAY IN THE NATIONAL TITLE but you say values are more important than winning, yes you have "punished" the team enough. Porky, Post #80 and #82, I actually agree with you. Not one thing is going to happen to Southern California. WAR EAGLE; going back to your NCAA post earlier, I have a terrible time with the double standards they have for investigations, etc. Also, who qualifies as a "Booster." If I was wealthy I could move to Baton Rouge next month and join some big booste club, get season tickets, etc. and then decide to drop some cash on a recruit or his family and the school will end up catching the heat. The above situation could take place without any knowledge by the institution (i.e. the Alabama case with Logan Young) and yet the NCAA could still bring down the hammer. How could any coach or institution TRULY police all the people that would fit the definition of "Booster" that the NCAA uses? Last I checked any person can give a gift to any person up to 10K and it doesn't have to be reported as income. What's the difference if a kid works a "no show" job or whatever? People say, well he's getting special treatment - you think? The athlete in question is part of a multi-million dollar business, he's not just an average student attending school. I don't think that coaches or players are dirty, I think that the business of college ball is dirty. I love it, don't get me wrong, but when you start trying to justify some of the NCAA's actions it just gets silly. Should it be the responsibility of the football coach to make sure that every football player who's working a summer job is showing up for work? Crazy. It's like giving out speeding tickets on 285 around Atlanta - who do you start with, the guy going 80 or the guy going 90? They are both breaking the law.

Last word on pheasant from this Alabama boy, but they took those birds and cut the meat from the bone. Then wrapped it with cream cheese and jalepenos on the inside with a toothpick holding it all together and grilled it for about 5 minutes. Of the half dozen ways it was served while in South Dakota that was the way I cooked the birds I brought back with me. Michigan 865
    Notre Dame 822
    Texas 816
    Nebraska: 807
    Ohio State: 794

So i doubt those 8 wins are gonna vault OU very far. I only got a hold of the top 5, but then again i didn't really look too hard. Kevin had a really good site link that has every statistic you can think of, and I would love to have that link again Kev.

Oh and by the way Kev i remember discussing with you a while back if a player should get his number retired even if he doesn't win the Heisman. I found out today that both Kevin Durant and Vince Young's jersey's will both be retired this upcoming season. Heres the link for any who are interested:

Your doing that to yourself with the comments you are leaving on here. There now you can cry about how insensitive i am and how we are all human beings or whatever BS you think of off the top of your head.

You didn't. It took you that long to think of this? Read what you just posted. I could care less about what you think of the Sooners or me. So take another hour or more to come up with something better until then...Goodnight, stay safe on the job and GOOD-BYE!

Also heard that the razorbacks are pushing back the 09 Texas game to 2016, because they can't handle playing both Texas and Texas A&m in the same season.

Forty Acres of Burnt Orange, Post #120, are you mad at me? Geauxtigers0107, Post #121, there are many so called rivals in this game of college football. Many are intense BUT Texas is the only ones calling their border one "cheats". I wish ol' Forty Acres of Burnt Orange would post the link with those comments about Oklahoma so called "cheating". It is more comedy than actual facts. More like rambling than talkin'. If Eric Dickerson got on tv/internet/radio and confess how Texas tried to "buy" his way to get him to come to Texas instead of SMU...Crimson and Cream Nation would not care. What point are Longhorn Nation is trying to get across by stating Oklahoma "cheated"? I am surprised that Longhorn Nation has not petition Congress to summons the '74 and '75 team to appear in front of them. How about every man that has ever played for Oklahoma including Darrell Royal! Most of these post are probably from Texas fans born after 1975. I can't speak for Sooner Nation but as an individual I can say it gets old and Texas fans look foolish not Oklahoma fans when accused of "cheating". Then Texas fans I tell about there beloved Longhorns being on probation in the '80's swear up and down that it's not so or it was for "minor" violations. Texas fans get over it. You have no proof so move on.

Lennie of course im not mad at you come on now. I just don't understand how you can think im trying to start up this whole cheating discussion simply by posting a link related to VY. Oklahoma may have or may not have cheated but anyone in their right mind would say something about a team winning 2 national championships when they are not allowed to even be on national tv.

Not to mention Barry Switzer retiring due to pressure from all the NCAA violations that were comitted on his watch. Your Dickerson thing may or may not be true. I guess if you think Texas cheated they did a pretty good job, because they did not get caught except for being on probation in the 80's as you mentioned. This discussion could go on and on, but unfortunately it is time to go and keep the streets safe. Oh Lennie i wanted to leave you a classic SI cover for your enjoyment:

Quit getting so worked up over petty things Lennie and enjoy life. Take care everyone.

40 Acres of Burnt Orange, Post #124, Even your own post don't make sense. What does not being allowed on television has to do with Oklahoma winning the National Title. If the NCAA wanted to punish them they would have said no games for those seasons or not be awarded the National Title. I have never even hinted that Texas "cheated". I refered to a comment that you and other over zealous Texas fans have made about Barry Switzer "paid' players to come from Texas to play at Oklahoma. Fred Akers got fired for the violations on his watch and Texas being a losing program in the '80's. He probably got fired for not getting Eric Dickerson and Craig James to come to Texas! I just told you what a friend told me about Eric Dickerson being offered money and a house for his family to come to Texas over SMU. If it's true or not it's in the past and is no reflection on William Brown and what he is doing and done for the Texas program. Even when Oklahoma beat Florida State in 2001 I was listening to Craig Way program on 1300 the zone here in Austin and every other phone call was about Barry Switzer and "cheating". After a while even Craig, himself, an over zealous Texas sports announcer, stated what does that have to do with Oklahoma and what Robert Stoops have done/is doing? Talk about jealousy! Get over it. Gee, that link you provided with one Oklahoma player arrested for selling cocaine says alot about the whole Oklahoma program! One player gets arrested and the whole team is stereotyped for terrorizing the campus? The media does not overhype a story never! I surprised his race was not thrown in the mix! The media here DID NOT focus to much on the UT players arrests here for sure! But when Texas players where getting ARRESTED in Austin and Belton...they were marked has individuals and not a whole. William Brown was not held responsible for his players actions...they were responsible. Why should Barry Switzer be any different. I got it! When OU players were law breakers, BLAME BARRY! When UT players were law breakers...William should not be the blame! I got ya'...it makes sense ta me!

Lennie, i know my post didn't make sense to a point i forget that there are times where i have to clarify myself. OU was not allowed to be televised nationally or participate in a bowl game for 2 years due to being on ncaa probation. I believe they won 1 or 2 national titles around that time. But Barry did have to clean up the mess that Fairbanks left behind. I agree with you that a whole team should not be held responsible for the actions of a few. I don't ever say blame Barry for what his players did. Other than it has always been a well known fact that Barry's recruiting methods were always a little suspect. Do i have definitive proof? No. Do you have definitive proof that Akers was trying to buy Dickerson into coming to Texas? No. So can we just let the whole "cheating discussion" die for at least a week?

Again Forty Acres of Burnt Orange, Post #127, you fell to read my post again. That is why I stated a FRIEND told me. My friend Nate states that he would stand in front of God and tell that is what Eric Dickerson himself told HIM not ME. That to me is proof enough that this man(Nate) is telling the truth! I never met Eric Dickerson or played football with him. My friend Nate did! I also stated that if it was or was not true I DID NOT CARE. It is no concern of mine and it does not reflect on William Brown! You might want to check your resources on the penalties. Oklahoma did play Michigan in the 1975 Orange Bowl. But the way you and other Texas fans are talking Barry the blame and Mack is not accountable. You might not think so. To me it is put to rest and has been cause there is no proof...just jealousy!

Lennie: I've noticed that you have a propensity to call people named Bob or Bobbie by their given name of Robert. Does this mean that we can call you Leonard?

I think I've moved up the Red River Shootout to number one on my list of neutral-observer games I'd like to attend. Are tickets easy to find at the game? I might make a road-trip this year and write a guest column on it: The Red River Shoot-OUt from the Perspective of an UTterly neutral SEC guy.

Maybe by then we'll be able to buy Fanblogs golf shirts and everybody will know that I'm an official correspondent. Maybe I can get in free and sit up in the press box? Hey, that's a damn good idea! Kevin, how do I get some credentials here??? Seriously!

War Eagle Atlanta, Post #129, Most coaches do not go by their real names. Why, I don't know. I don't see any problem with Bob Stoops going by Robert, Peter Carroll going by Pete, or William Brown going by Mack! If they want to go by the shorten name or middle still no problem! The State of Mississippi birth certificate issued by Lauderdale County has my real name as Lennie. You can call me whatever the heck you choose BUT I do not have to response to it! What is yo' real name? If we gone keeps it real lets start with the names! Well I will and that has been my real and legal name from the get go.

WEA, Tickets are easy to get at the game for enough bread, they may be in the nose bleed section, but the game is just as exciting on the top row in the corner as it is on the 50.

Be sure to let me know if you're gonna be there, we will go out and celebrate OU's victory after the game and even try to get 40 Acres to be the designated driver...

Lennie: I'm just kidding you. My name is Greg, BTW.

Ron: Auburn plays Arkansas at home that date. I'll have to wait and see how the season's going and then I'll decide. If 40 Acres can't drive us around, maybe he can at least give us a police escort through Arlington. :-)
