Fanblogs XIV: Week 5 Poll

Poll of the Fanblogs.com authors & contributors for games played through September 27, 2005:

Again with the overranking of Ohio State - why? They beat an Iowa team that lost 23-3 to Iowa State. So please, don't tell me OSU's stock is that high after playing Iowa. Let's look at their only tough game of the season - a loss AT HOME.

When you actually put some thought to it, how can Ohio State ever be ahead of UT? UT went on the road versus two Top 5 opponents - going 1-1 (at LSU, at UF.) This is just like last year all over again - when other moron pollsters felt the need to continually rank UGa ahead of UT - even after UT went to Athens and beat UGa (giving both teams 1 loss.)

Make sure your blinders are off when compiling these worthless thread polls!

Eric is right...Tennessee deserves to be ranked higher than OSU. What has OSU done this year?
Either vote with integrity OR don't bother wasting our time.

What is this - a joke? Wisconsin at #6, UVa at #7, Texas Freakin Tech at #10??? Now this is the most idiotic poll in America. It's a good thing morons like this don't have any power in the world. Fanblog.com has no credibility as long as non-football people keep working the site!

Looks like this is a west coaster voting his heart - just like most other's on this sham of a poll. I see #11 A.S.U., but where's the L.S.U. Tigers - the team that went to Tempe and beat your boyz? This guy is something else...he's got Cal, ND, ASU & OSU sitting way up there in his poll. But where's Tennessee??? Who else has beaten a Top 5 team (on the road mind you) this year? ASU couldn't even beat a Top 5 team at home - but here they are in your poll!
Are there any football people at fanblog.com...or just a bunch of homers?

Heck, I'm done looking at this worthless pile of votes. Petey, who apparently is not a football fan, thinks #7 ASU is better than #11 LSU - a team that went to Arizona State and won! Petey Petey Petey, you should be shot lke an old dog - to save us all from your mindless poll. You are still "dotting the i" with those Buckeyes too...even after Texas came to Columbus and beat this overrated Big10 bully. Now, you've promoted OSU to 3rd - just because they can beat Iowa (the same team ISU beat 23-3 two weeks ago.)

Heck Petey, why don't you just set up your own National Championship with these two teams - since their obviously your favoriteteams (in spite of the losses they take.)

    RECAP OF MORNIC PICKS:
    #7 ASU
    #11 LSU
Even though LSU went to Tempe and beat ASU this yr
    #3 OSU
    #9 UT
Even though OSU can't beat a Top 5 Team at home (while UT is 1-1 on the road versus Top 5 teams this yr.)

Hey, you have to remember we voted BEFORE UT vs LSU.

You can continue tilting at windmills, or you can accept the fact that a significant number of people following football do not believe that Tennessee could beat Ohio State. Based on what they have put on the field, I don't think that Tennessee would beat any of the teams in my XIV on a neutral field.

Through the 9/24 update, Tennessee is the 94th rated offense, 112th in scoring offense (dead last in the SEC), 23rd in defense, 101st in net punting, 94th in punt returns, and 113th in kickoff returns -- not the kind of numbers that are going to win the SEC East - let alone allow them to knock off some of the top teams.

Tennessee ranks in the bottom half of SEC in 12 of 14 statistical categories.

To date, they have a Sagarin Predictor rating of 17. Is Sagarin's computer a Tennessee hater?

I'm not saying Tennessee sucks, they don't. They could give a lot of great teams fits. I've ranked them in the top 14 several times myself this year.

But are they better than the teams above them based on what they have put on the field (not a forecast of their future performance)? I don't think so.

For my part, I'm neither a fan of the Pac10 nor do I live on the West Coast.

And, one further point, I will always, always use my own name to post or comment. I don't change user names but post from the same IP & email, because I believe in my own opinions.

Kevin, How is LSU out of your poll...but ASU is in your poll?? All this talk of neutral sites, didn't LSU go into Tempe and beat one of your Top 14? (ASU - remember that game)

And you love to belittle Tennessee's efforts - but UT went on the road to #4 LSU and #5 Florida (going 1-1.) What has OSU done to prove their worth to you?? (the lost at home to THEIR ONLY tOP 5 FOE)

    yoUR AN IDIOT

Who can Ohio State beat? (if you want credibility, save your breath on the Iowa game - ISU drilled them 23-3 too)

So tell me Kevin, what has OSU done - that's more impressive than Tennessee.

    UT
Beat #4 LSU (in Baton Rouge) 30-27
Lost #5 UF (in Gainesville) 7-16

    OSU
    Lost #2 Texas (in Columbus)

Kevin, looks like your the one "tilting at windmills" now...you poll just doesn't add up bud.

Newsflash everybody: the SEC sucks this year. Tennessee is overrated and when they finish third in the SEC East and end up losing in the Capital One Bowl to Minnesota, remember you heard it here first. If you are stupid enough for a second to think that Texas wouldn't beat Florida by 45 points send me your address and I'll buy you a cable apckage so you don't have to watch games broadcast by Jefferson-pilot anymore.
People who think that Tennessee is a top ten team also think Alabama is going to win ten games, and that makes you stupid.

Weird. I paid attention to the dealine in the e-mail I received and waited until after the Tennessee/LSU game to finalize my vote. I assumed everyone would do that, since it was two top ten teams. Kinda important to factor it in if ya ask me.

To respond to the relevant points of the criticism of my ballot:

'Bama's not on my list because I haven't seen anything yet that suggests to me that they're consistent enough to win the big games. The SC game was tempting, but their showing against Ark and USM leave a lot to be desired.

LSU beat ASU, that's true. I do not think that, as of this week, LSU could do it more times than not on a neutra field. They barely pulled off the win against ASU to begin with, and after that second half against Tennessee, I'm not convinced they could do it more often than not.

Ohio State played the second best team in the country to a tough loss. Who else has performed at that level?

After looking at the Master Coaches Survey, I have to say that I feel even more confident in our poll and my voting.

    XIV TEAM MCS
    1 USC 1
    2 Texas 2
    3 Va Tech 3
    4 Florida 4
    5 FSU 6
    6 Georgia 5
    7 Ohio St 7
    8 LSU 15
    9 Tennessee 9
    10 Miami 8
    11 Mich St 11
    12 Cal 10
    13 Az St 12
    14 Alabama 16
    14 Notre Dame 13

A few differences, but amazing similarities from the band of no nothing Fanblogs team and the band of 2,900+ wins & 5 national titles.

It's still early in the season
    they've already played each other
the 1st game was played at Tempe (ASU home game)

((this is not baseball Petey...there's no best of 3, best of 5, or best of 7 series here))

if ASU can't beat LSU at home - what's going to allow them to win on the road??? (and where are all these opportunities for neutral sites you speak of??)

"After looking at the Master Coaches Survey, I have to say that I feel even more confident in our poll and my voting"
    _____________________________________________

    "OUR poll and MY voting"

Our poll - the total after all votes are counted

My voting - the mindless picks of an uninformed typist

    Our Poll:
    #8 LSU
    #9 UT
    #13 ASU

    My Voting:
    LSU - unranked
    UT - unranked
    ASU - #11

    Master Coaches:
    #9 UT
    #12 ASU
    #15 LSU

YOU MUST UNDERSTAND ALL THIS MEANS IS:
    a) Tennessee a lot better than you give them credit for
    b) I was right about ASU - you've overrated them

    ____________________________________________

Are we understanding your idiotic logic correctly? If you played #2 Texas (in Columbus,OH mind you) and only lose by a field goal, your now #3.

This is the lame logic that let "choklahoma" play for a National Championship!!

Why not give Va Tech, Georgia, or Florida a #3 instead of a one loss (home loss) team like O.S.U.?
