When alternate uniforms attack
With the regular season behind us and bowl season a few weeks away, we've got two weeks to focus on the truly pressing issues of the year - like alternate uniforms.
This year we saw several teams that had never danced with the alt-uniform devil try their hand with a non-traditional look.
FSU abandoned the garnet/gold for an all-black uniform to honor the Seminole Tribe of Florida.
The Cal Bears did everything they could to out-Oregon Oregon with a distinctive yellow look.
Ultra-conservative, ultra-traditional Alabama added houndstooth trim to their uniforms to honor Bear Bryant to create an absolutely beautiful jersey.
And -- of course -- there's the Oregon Ducks and their 384 unique uniform combinations.
So, my question for you: What do you make of limited-edition alternate uniforms? Do you want to see more teams going all-black?

Nope. It only works for a few schools.

I dislike it....but I'm a fan of the traditional uniforms....Alabama, Penn State, etc.
I do know that if A&M showed up in something like that Kyle Field would actually spontaneously combust as result of overall fan outrage.

It has never worked well for LSU. White helmets looked cheap and dinky; yellow jerseys with white numbers were difficult to read; and purple pants redefined "ghey".
I would still be in favor of a complete uniform overhaul, as I'm not crazy about our regular uniforms either.

I agree w/ Tom. the alternate uniform only works for some schools. it seems to work for louisville, oregon, and some others. but some of the schools that have a rich "uniform history" if you will, I personally dont think it would work good for. teams like bama, UGA, & USC.

Yeah,it definately works for some teams, but not for others. Earlier this season I was attempting to watch Clemson play a game in some kind of "all putrid purple". It looked as though a football game had been taken over by a bunch of 300lb. purple tele-tubbies and "Barneys". I'm not sure if Clemson wore these for every home game, a few, or just that game, but it appeared as though they let someone from Oregon pick out their wardrobe. Maybe the coach thought it would make his players play "pissed-off", maybe he lost a bet,..or maybe its a lost episode of "Queer Eye for the Clemson Guy". Regardless, it was a bad choice in uniforms.

I meant USC (southern cal), not south carolina. my bad. south carolina has worn maroon, white and black helmets all w/ in the last 8 years. all 3 colored jerseys and all 3 colored pants in that time also. not that that is a bad thing, but obviously I wouldnt consider that a rich "uniform history" when it changes w/ each new coach.

i like most of the alternates(exept FSU) but there is one that i truly wish would be a teams all time jersey. Miami played UNC last year in a retro green and gold with the hurricane warning flags on the side of their helmets. If they would change and go back to that jersey and helmet, i think i could actually stand to watch them win a game or two.

obviously Im a UGA fan, but I also pay close attention to uni's. Ive always like white helmets w/ dark jersets, and white pants. Ive always thought auburn should wear an alternate orange jersey any time they wear dark on the road. this is guaranteed for them b/c LSU wears white at home in conference games so AU is guaranteed to wear this, but only wear it once/2 yrs.

i think they all look preatty good except cal basically stole the inverse of WVU's jerseys, which is ok except the jersey setup definately works better as a gold on blue and not blue on gold. the only jersey's that i think sucked is when VT released those ugly looking things where the jersey was maroone with one shoulder/sleeve orange. i hope whoever came up with that idea got fired. luckly they don't wear them that much anymore. (though i'm also not much of a fan of WVU's away all white jerseys either) lemme put it this way there are white away jerseys, then there are football pimps. hahahah

ah what the hell...let em wear what they want to...i mean you might not know you're watching your favorite team and you might not stop on the right channel. it can get confusing. just make sure your quarterback doesnt forget what color you're wearing.

BREAKING NEWS: Terror Alert in Eugene
Eugene, OR - - University of Oregon football practice was delayed nearly two hours this morning after a player reported finding an unknown white powdery substance on the practice field. Head coach Mike Bellotti immediately suspended practice and called the police and federal investigators.
After a complete analysis, FBI forensic experts determined that the white substance unknown to players was the GOAL LINE .
Practice resumed after special agents decided the team was unlikely to encounter the substance again this season.scarletavenger said:

Last time USC was ever rated as low as 4th was in 2002. Iowa was the BIG-10 Champion at 11-1 and rated 3rd in the country. USC played Iowa in the Orange Bowl and stomped them 38-17. You know that's gonna happen to Michigan, don't you? And, like I said, you're damn lucky the PunkEyes didn't have to play USC. It ain't no BIG-10 teams beatin' the Trojans, fool! It's other PAC-10 teams. Your sorry team would have been pounded by UCLA on that day. Problem is: there aren't any good teams in the BIG-10.
Scarlet: here's your next set of numbers. Figure it out.
Since 1965-2005: Ohio State is 245-74-5 for a .764 winning PCT against the BIG-10. Against the PAC-10 they are 31-14-1 for a winning PCT of .685 - the PAC is better than the BIG-10.
Michigan is 256-65-5 for a winning PCT of .793 within the BIG-10. Quite another story when they play the PAC: only 27-18-1 for a winning PCT of .598 - the PAC is better again.
Since 1965, all teams in the BIG-10 have a record of 137-170-5 against the PAC-10 for a winning PCT of .447 - PAC-10 wins again.
Even more grotesque than that: The BIG-10 is 44-67-1 against the SEC for a winning PCT of .397 - the SEC owns the BIG-10.
So, you shut your flappin' little lips until your boyz catch up with everyone else - deal?

The topic of the thread alternitive uniforms?
Oregon Ducks and Cal bears are definenatly the most outragous and should be featured on the E channel or inside edition.
Trying to get this back on target Kevin
I personally like the old throwbacks on occasion.
The Horns uniforms have been basically the same for over 40 years. In the 05 season they wore 1963 throwbacks that werent much different than todays.

It's at www.football.stassen.com. Use the aggregate winning pct against each conference. You can choose one team or a whole conference of teams against another conference. If you want more than one team - hold the down while you keep selecting teams. All the conference teams are in order - so it's not hard to do. This is a real new feature and very handy BTW. Try it out. Pretty interesting. You have to put what years you want also. For instance, 1978 to 1990. You can get all the records for only those years.

Schools can do what they want, even when it's as yucky lucking as Clemson's purple or Oregon's combos. As a Carolina Gamecock I've always been partial to our garnet jerseys and pants as opposed to the black ones (although I think Russell has actually had our garnet tone wrong for the last 7 years). I can live with black jerseys as long as our traditional "Carolina" stays on the chest and our beloved Block C Gamecock logo stays on the helmet as that has been our tradition for decades and is truly a unique signature of our school, unlike any other (our logo needs to be bigger though than it is currently).

# 65 Hey Tommie T I feel for ya dude.Quality time and shopping-Bummer.My wife is on a home improvement kick. They really need to ban those while you were out and reality type T.V. shows.
New front door, new back door, new blinds, new ceiling fan, fixed the window and hung sheetrock, repainted the kitchen. Then that wasn't enough,What
No Then the bathroom from hell.New walls, new tile shower, new tile floor, new fixtures and faucets, even a new commode. I took a break from all that yesterday, fed the cows and then went deer hunting.
Realy good theropy to just sit in the woods and become part of the enviroment. I rarely ever fire a shot or anything like that , just relax and observe nature. Its better than the other stress releif methods, you know longneck bottles and neon lights.
Ready for some bowl action, its more entertaining than a six pack and a bug zapper.

Notre Dame will have to pull out "the Green Jersey's" in order to beat LSU in the Sugar Bowl. Following is Notre Dame's futility in Bowl games since the 1993 season.
1995 Fiesta - Colorado 41 Notre Dame 24
1996 Orange - Florida State 31 Notre Dame 26
1997 Independence - L.S.U. 27 Notre Dame 9
1999 Gator - Georgia Tech 35 Notre Dame 28
2001 Fiesta - Oregon State 41 Notre Dame 9
2003 Gator - N.C. State 28 Notre Dame 6
2004 Insight - Oregon State 38 Notre Dame 21
2006 Fiesta - Ohio State 34 Notre Dame 20Man, this isn't even funny. And here they are again in the "Sugar Bowl" against LSU. Notre Dame has lost the last eight bowl games by average scores of 34.4-17.9 points. These games haven't even been close and I predict that LSU will beat Notre Dame by another +20 this year. This is very sad. Praise be to Allah that I am neither Irish or Catholic. It's great to be a Trojan!
