If you had to...
...who would you trade the Head Coach of your favorite team for? I'll start the proceedings by trading Jim Tressel of my beloved Buckeyes for Greg Schiano of Rutgers. Who would you pick and why?

I wouldn't trade Fran for anyone. The comedy he provides as a Longhorn is awesome.
(Yes I know "12-7 sips!")
As a Longhorn, I'm not sure I would trade Mack Brown for anyone. I would love for Major Applewhite to return after a few years under Saban and after Mack retires.

When you have the reigning king (Urban Meyer), why would trade down for less?
If I had to choose, it would be in this order:
1) Bob Stoops
2) Pete Carroll
3) Steve Spurrier
4) Nick Saben
5) Mike Leach (his Playstation football gimmick would fail miserably in the SEC, but it would be fun to see him try)

For Bobby Bowden:
Not going to list them in order but I like Rich Rod, Mark Richt, Jimbo Fisher, Butch Davis, Bob Stoops, Pete Carroll, and after this year, I became a fan of BSU (Chris Peterson and Bryan Harsin).
Charlie Weiss, anyone... anyone? :0)
I'm not going to list Urban Meyer but I will say this about him, I like the enthusiasm he brings to the game.

Trading the winningest coach in D1 history and e legend as a coach and a man would - suck.
However, IF I had to, I'd get the other teams HC and top assistant in return and a 5 star recruit as part of the trade lol.
Seriously, my list would be:
1) Rich Rod (he's a proven guy)
2) Jimbo Fisher (may make a great HC one day)
3) Mark Richt (proven guy, great recruiter)
4) Mack Brown (FSU alum)
5) Chris Weinke (I know, he's never coached before. He's so much like Steve Spurrier though it's scary - both won the Heisman, both flopped in the NFL, both are very good offensive minds. So yeah, I'd roll the dice on Weinke).
I personally didnt list Meyer or PC. They are both EXCELLENT football coaches and flat out WIN. However, the control of the program in terms of discipline can be questioned. I'm not calling anyone's program dirty or the coaches dirty or anything like that. Just saying there's been a few problems in recent history. JMO.

It would be hard not to want Pete Carroll to take over the program at Auburn, although Tubbs is doing ok by me. Carroll's next stop is the NFL, however, not small town Alabama. What he's done at USC is amazing, taking them from a 2-decade long stupor to a perrenial national contender with a recruiting pipeline that won't turn off anytime soon.

1.Bobby Bowden (my favorite coach)
2.Steve Spurrier
3.Rich Rod
4.Pete Carol
5.Micky Andrews(Note: 2-5 in no particular order)

Hmmm... This is a tough one. Coach Bilema has one season under his belt, pulled off an 11-1 with a New Year's Day bowl game win. Jury is still in the deliberation room. Not sure I'd be willing to make any trade at all at this point. If forced to, then, of course, Meyer would top the list, but I'm not sure all the razzle dazzle, run'n, shoot', etc., would play well in Peoria (so to speak). I've always been partial to Stoops and Richt, and both would fit Wisconsin & the Big Ten style of play better.
Were I a stink'n Michigan fan, I'd trade Loyd Carr for Joe Pa, (or anyone, for that matter. Or maybe for Jim Tressle's real estate agent - b/c Tressle owns title deed to Carr's house!!

Rammer Jammer:
I'm impressed with that list. In fact, no one else has even mentioned Micky Andrews (myself included didn't even think of him). I've always thought it was a mystery why Micky's never been a HC. He's been one of the top DC's in the country for YEARS, maybe even decades. I think he would have made an excellent HC. With his age and loyalties to BB he'll never leave but he could have been a great HC I think.

Trade Rich Rodriguez?!? “Lot on your knife; I mean not on your life.” (Now I’m quoting from Conan. Ya see what you guys got me doing?) Seriously, I didn’t want Coach Rod to go in the 1st place, and I’m grateful he stayed. However, were he to leave, I might be tempted to grab Jim Leavitt. Look at what he’s done at S FL over the past 9 seasons. He took a school with no football program and built one, which has certainly come into its own.
I’d also be tempted to go after Bobby or Terry Bowden. Terry proved himself at Auburn; he just couldn’t get along with a powerful booster organization. There will always be a place in my heart for Joe Pa.
If I were doing this strictly business like, I’d want Butch Davis, with perhaps Jimbo Fisher as his OC. (I agree; Fisher will make a great HC some day.) I’d also want Rick Trickett as his “O” line coach. (I sure as heck didn’t want him leaving.)
Others I’d strongly consider for HC (not necessarily in this order): Barry Alverez, Mack Brown, Pete Carol, Dan Hawkins, Brian Kelly, Steve Kragthorpe, Urban Meyer, Mark Richt, Greg Schiano, just to name a few.

If I had to trade Frank Beamer for anyone, it would be Bud Foster.
Reigning Ast Coach of the year and three time runner up..I'm just so glad He loves VT, because He has had way too many offers to be a head coach at other places.

When Mike Price was prematurely fired, I prayed day and night for the hiring of Mickey Andrews. I was so dissapointed when the UofA hired Mike Shula. IMHO If the UofA would have offered him the job, I think he would have taken it.
I think he would make an excellent HC. His resume speaks for itself. But, as you said; I don't see him going anywhere now.
I have a question for you: Would you happen to know where he played college football and baseball? BTW-He also has 2 NC rings with the school in question.

Yeah Mickey is a Bama stud. I still can't believe he hasn't gotten more HC offers - that kinda baffles me. Although, I'm certainly not complaining because it's comforting knowing he's in control of our defense. I think he'll stick around as long as BB does. I think they'll retire together and that will truly be a sad day for Seminole Nation.

I would trade Les Miles for Jack Del Rio...Out of nothing more than morbid curiosity...Word was after the Capital One Bowl that our Athletics Director, legendary 5 time National Champion Baseball Coach Stanley "Skip" "Sweatpants" "Emertius" Bertman botched up the interview process with a chomping at the bit Del Rio...
I actually really like Les Miles. I think the guy's going to open eyes, blow a lot of doors off, and have the SEC shaking its collective head. He's hired an oustanding staff, he's continued to recruit at a stratospheric level, retaining all the in-state kids even in the aftermath of myriad transfers and movement of schools, classifications, and coaches in HS ball here in Louisiana post-Katrina.
But, if I had to trade him, I would've traded him for the "What might have been," of Del Rio...
Also, just for sh!ts and giggles, I would like to trade him for Nick Saban...I would wanna' see if all those kids like Bowe, Davis, LaFell, and all the rest were really going to rock the boat, transfer and/or call for changes to be made as far as the way Nick Saban handled the team...It was a huge rumor, and part of the reason Ryan Perrilloux didn't even come close to sniffing LSU until after Saban left (he got fed some bad info on the state of the team while on a frank recruiting visit with a current player)...
That's my $0.02...

No1Eman- I have strongly believed for the past 3-4 years that Mark Richt is no doubt the guy Florida State wants to replace Bowden, if he retires any time soon. Richt recruits very well in that area of the country, and Florida State doesn't recruit like it used to. Still good, but Florida has been doing better than te Seminoles the last few years.
Gator Boys- That just maybe the funniest joke I've heard in a long time.

Meyer
Spurrier
Carroll
Stoops
Tressel
Richt
Schiano
Grobe
SabanAh, Hell, I'd trade him for anyone who can actually coach!! After all, you can't spell his name without 4 "L"s, as in LOSSES!

I would trade Phillip Fulmer for Jon Gruden. All jokes aside Fulmer has done a great job, but I believe the game has outgrown him. Gruden is rumored to have said he would love to coach at UT if the opportunity ever arised. I guess in second place I would love to see Bill Cowher come out of retirement, and third pick would be Chris Peterson from Boise State.

Whats Happening ? The Huskers will face several of the guys on your list.
Youve got both Wake Forrest and USC on your schedule and no Oklahoma this year. The Huskers have A&M at home and UT in Austin.
If the Huskers can survive with only two or three losses Coach Bill Callihan will be around for a while.
The Guys youve listed are great coaches, however I think these guys would be a better fit for yall. In no particular order
Gary Patterson
R.C. Sloakum
Ken Hatfeild
Houston Nutt

1st, a small apology to WF fans; I should have included Jim Grobe.
Now, a great big apology to VA Tech fans. I don't know how I managed to not include Frank Beamer. If I took the time to look them up, I'll bet I've referenced Beamer Ball in not fewer than a dozen threads over the past year. Hell of a coach!!! Nuff said.

thanks ZAC: Beamer has built a very nice program at Tech over the years. He takes mediocre talent and makes it good. Va Tech don't go out of state much to do it's recruiting. Though I'm a bit biased and would hate to see Beamer leave Tech, I'd go for his assistant Bud Foster. Bud has made the Tech defense one of the best in the country. For several years now. I think he knows TEch football better than anyone other than Beamer. My vote on Tech after Beamers' departure Bud Foster. Tech has given Beamer a lifetime contract pretty much like Joe Pa and Bobby Bowden. Beamer is Va Tech

Ga Boy #39, I live in Athens. I'll give that the Dawgs are going to be damn good this, next and probably for a while. The thing is I can name plenty of coaches that can out coach Mark Richt. He's a good coach, but you can definitely see your biased. His real strength is recruiting talent which, in GA, isn't really hard. It always seem that no matter how much talent they have something always happens to screw it the season(usually those boys south of us).

Hokie4Life, thanks for the reminder. K-Hue, how about a thread featuring our "dream" coaching staff? I've already got dibs on Butch Davis (HC), Jimbo Fisher (OC), Rick Trickett (OLC). I'll need some help with backs, receivers, & QB's. As for defense, gimmie Bud Foster; the man's an animal!!! BC's Frank Spaziani would be a great DLC. Now, all I'll need is a LBC, 2ndary's Coach, and Special Teams Coach. Did I miss anything???

Tight ends Mike Ditka Linebackers Buddy Ryan
QB's Todd Dodge
I had to include Ryan & Ditka on the same team couldnt resist

Nittany, hell yeah I am biased. What else would you expect? The blog wasn't about who could out coach who; it was about who you would trade your coach for. I wouldn't trade him for anyone. Great person, great recruiter, hell of a coach. Now that he put Bobo as OC, you are really going to see some good stuff out of the DAWGS. Richt was such a percentages guy. Very conservative. Bobo on the other hand is going to be aggressive and he's got the guy to do it in Stafford. If Bryant and Massaqua have the season I am expecting, this could be a good one! Go DAWGS!

I was actually thinking about this to myself the other day before I even saw this post. I would trade Lloyd Carr for Pete Carroll. Lloyd has done good things for the program and is a quality guy I think. He gets his fair share of talent and wins his fair share of games. But PC gets much more than his fair share of talent and he gets a lot more out of the talent he has. The last two times we played USC in the Rose Bowl you got the same feeling - that is the kind of coach we need to get if we want to compete at that level year in and year out.
Go Blue!

I'd problably trade Rich Rodriquez for Urban Meyer...from what I understand they are good friends, exchange ideas and are both the innovators of the Spread offense. I would think that both Florida and WVU wouldn't miss a beat if they exchanged coaches.
I'm proud to see names like
Rick Trickett
Jimbo Fisher
Bobby Bowden
Terry Bowden
Rich Rodriquez
Nick Sabenon this list, they all have ties to the West Virginia....my home state.

He did a tremendous job at Miami and Oregon State and was clearly on his way to taking Idaho back to prominence before he bolted for the Sun Devils after only a year. Joe Paterno would be a close second. Players always love playing for him and he recruits very well.
