Urban Meyer: UFG8TRZ!

Back in the "good old days" of college recruiting, Oklahoma coach Barry Switzer was the 'king of the living room'. Switzer could take even the most conflicted recruit and make a presentation that won over the player and his family.

Welcome to the 2000s.

Since Michigan has reportedly upped the ante with the two way (WR/DB) standout Jamar Hornsby and offered him the legendary #1, Florida Gators football coach Urban Meyer is text messaging Hornsby to keep up. Hornsby, who took an unofficial visit to UF earlier this month, told Rivals.com that Meyer text messages him 10-15 times a day. Can't you just see Meyer thumbing away text messages: "UF4U! G8TRZ!"

It must be working - Hornsby ranks the text messaging Gators just ahead of Michigan & its jersey.

    This is the same Barry Switzer who once referred to a bidding war over Deion Sanders as 'just like recruiting.'

    If either team had $10,000 to offer, the texting wouldn't matter.

    SC has been text messaging recruits (reportedly 100 times a day) as well (probably Stockstill who used to write a letter a day to recruits when he was at Clemson.)

    Zippy, I think your wrong here. Text messaging is one of the most non pushy way's to communicate with someone. Not only do you have the ability to ignore it, you also have time to form your answers in a way your comfortable with.It's rare to see the Gators on this blog only because of the quality of the program there. This is not Miami or fsu.Were not God!

    The trick with text messaging (since it isn't regulated by the NCAA yet) is you can legally text message a recruit and ask him to call you. Since recruit-initiated calls are unlimited, this makes for what some would see as a loophole in the rules because of new technology.

    Urban Meyers biggest job @ Florida will be "controlling" his wife Shelly. She is really a goofy loose cannon. She goes around the community talking as if she is the co-coach, and just as responsible for the wins as is coach Meyer. The Gainsville people will overlook this ONLY as long as they are winning...then look out!
