Meyer reaches out to victim's family

I missed this article last week....

Florida Gators head coach Urban Meyer reached out to the Slonina family to apologize for the hardships that former player Jamar Hornsby had put the them through.

University of Florida football coach Urban Meyer called Jim Slonina on Monday night to talk about the recent incidents involving a gas card that belonged to Slonina's daughter, Ashley, a Florida student who died in an Oct. 12 motorcycle accident.

"He was truly sad that it had occurred and he talked to us from parent to parent," Slonina said. "I think a lot of coach Meyer. I honestly believe, I knew in my heart that he would not stand for this type of behavior. When he talked to me, it was person to person. From a parent to a parent."

Former Florida Gator junior safety Jamar Hornsby is accused of using Ashley Slonina’s BP gas card, which belonged to her father's company, Panhandle Engineering in Lynn Haven, after the girl's death. Hornsby turned himself in at 5:30 a.m. May 9, responding to a warrant on charges of fraudulent use of a credit card and larceny of a credit card. He was released on his own recognizance early that afternoon.

Meyer dismissed Hornsby from the Gators later that day.

Class move by Meyer.

    "Class move by Meyer."

Yea, this sounds like a man with no heart. (Insert sarcasm here.)

    I agree, Kev; class move.

there have been times when i have questioned meyers handling of situations involving his athletes, but meyer stepped up here...first by booting this player off the team...and then by calling the family of the victim.....class act....

i wonder if we would of heard about it if the victims mom didn't speak-up about the phone call.....

it just goes to show that under these tough images that the media portrays on the t.v. about coaches and in negative headlines about their players that above all...these coaches have families..have children..and have hearts....

and i could list a lot of coaches who would of done the same thing.....

way to go meyer....that was a good call....

    jmho...

    go gators....

    Son of a...

Great, now I have this strange feeling. Could it be...Yup. I think it's a feeling of respect for a Florida (as in the state, not just the University of) D-1 football coach.

I don't like thinking of them as class guys. I prefer to thoroughly dislike them and their programs. Damn...

Kevin, could you just post the bad stuff about them?
