Florida State - Alabama game "closer"

Looks like the Florida State - Alabama game in Jacksonville is getting closer becoming a done deal.

Alabama Athletics Director Mal Moore and Florida State Athletics Director Dave Hart (a former Bama basketball player) agreed to the game months ago. However, television networks went to war over rights to what would be a nationally-significant game.

Negotiations with the networks have been handled by the commissioners of the Southeastern Conference and the Atlantic Coast Conference. CBS is the television partner of the SEC, while ABC is the partner of the ACC. Published reports indicate the compromise will give the telecast to ESPN, which has agreements with both conferences.

Projections are that Alabama and FSU will both reap about $2 million from the one-game event. The game would be hosted by the Gator Bowl.

Y'all circle September 29, 2007 on your little calendar thingies.
