Florida State leads with 2 Butkus Semi-finalists

The Downtown Athletic Club of Orlando which presents the Butkus Award to the nation's top linebacker evey year has released its list of ten semi-finalists for this season. Florida State has two semi-finalists, senior AJ Nicholson and junior Ernie Sims. The complete list of semi-finalists is found below. This list will be cut to three finalists on November 10th, and the winner will be announced on December 10th.

Chad Greenway - Iowa
Aaron Harris - Texas
Spencer Havner - UCLA
AJ Hawk - Ohio State
D'Qwell Jackson - Maryland
Tim McGarigle - Northwestern
AJ Nicholson - Florida State
Paul Posluszny - Penn State
DeMeco Ryans - Alabama
Ernie Sims - Florida State

    Let's go ahead and hand it to Mr. AJ Hawk right now because the "competition" isn't even close. How could they leave Bobby Carpenter off the list though?

    Carpenter is a force, but Hawk is the heart of that defense and everyone knows it. Maybe they left Carpenter off the list because he plays alot with his hand down as a rush end? There are certainly enough Big 10 players on here already. Its odd to see that the team with two semi-finalists (FSU) still take a backseat in the "Best Linebackers in the Country" discussion to Ohio State.

    Hawk is a stud no doubt, I would lean towards Sims myself.

    Penn States playmaker Posluszny is a stud to. I gotta give it up to him for the way he made fools out of the OSU offense. When it comes to taking command of a game he's right behind Hawk.
