NASCAR to race with Gators, 'Noles paint schemes
Time for a little cross sport interaction here.
For the last weekend of NASCAR action taking place on Sunday at Homestead-Miami Speedway, drivers Scott Riggs and Kyle Petty will have their cars decked out in Florida football and Florida State football colors. No doubt to play up some more intrastate rivalries on the last weekend of the season with the final finish virtually all wrapped up.
Here's a look at both vehicles, from GatorsNolesRacing.com
Scott Riggs' Florida State Seminoles No. 10

Kyle Petty's Florida Gators No. 45

More on how this came to be, from NASCAR site Jayski.com.
This sponsorship is designed to give sports fans one more opportunity to gear up for the intra-Florida rivalry on the football field set for the following week. The Company expects to create excitement due to the tremendous fan cross-over among the two sports. In September, new collectible #10 Florida State Seminole and #45 Florida Gator cups will be available at nearly 150 Checkers restaurants in Florida. During the unveiling of the new cars at Bristol Motor Speedway, Checkers pledged $5,000 to both Riggs' and Petty's charities: Carolina Donor Services and the Victory Junction Gang, respectively. An additional $5,000 will be donated to the race-within-a-race winner's charity on November 20th.. . .
A portion of the proceeds of the sale of the die casts benefits the scholarship programs at both schools.

Wow, the comment about non athletic sports centered around rednecks showed that the reader, along with being bigoted, has no idea what NASCAR is about. This college educated, MENSA member born and raised in Chicago Seminole fan is going to enjoy the race and the intellectual and physical abilities of the teams this Sunday.

I am a redneck, and I love Nascar, except for the restrictor plates; and college football (Geaux LSU) except for the lack off a playoff system. I like the paint schemes. I think it would be cool for all the cars to paint up "college style" once a year.

There's a Maryland car at some level of racing now. Tennessee has had one also. Jack Roush used a Clemson paint job on Kevin Lepage's car for the Richmond race one or two years and the proceeds of merchandise sold went to a Motorsports Engineering scholarship at Clemson named for Roush.
