Florida State outsources band for NC State game
I don't know if this is in response to the the ongoing NC State urine crisis or not, but it appears that Florida State has outsourced the Warchant to North Carolina Central University for this week's game with the Wolfpack.
On Thursday, October 5, 2006, at 7:30 p.m., FSU will play North Carolina State University in Raleigh, N.C., at Carter Finley Stadium. NCCU's marching band will be seated in the stands with some 5,000 Florida State spectators playing FSU fight songs as well as NCCU’s band music and other game cadences.FSU is making special FSU shirts for NCCU band members to wear to the event and will pay for the 250 members' bus travel to Raleigh. The Sound Machine will be served a tailgate dinner outside the stadium and play for FSU alumni before the game.
I beg your pardon? Honestly, I understand that the band might miss two days of classes but... c'mon, you can't ousource the Warchant for a nationally televised game, can you?!
Next thing you know, FSU will be selling out to Nike and changing its uniforms. Ugh.
Here's an idea: Let's oursource the playcalling.

Bobby says "As many of you realize we have had some problems on offense and thought that since we have tried everything else we need to substitute the band".
How pathetic would it be if they are doing this to save money.... The football program is still a massive money maker but I hear the athletics department is rather tight fisted. The largest sum of money that left athletics after the Orange bowl was 250,000 to the schools research library. You'd think they would at least spend the money to bring the band.

I understand that the director at NCCU is an FSU Marching Chiefs alum, so it was thought better to give NCCU the opportunity than to just get 15 alums to do a pep band.

I am a member of the Marching Chiefs. We had a pep-band trip scheduled for this game, but it was cancelled due to complaints from various academic departments of what would be 3 days of missed classes. I can understand it. I have an exam on Thursday. Wish we still could go though, there is no substitute for the Marching Chiefs. You know that if you've seen us perform. The trip to Raliegh two years ago was a fun one.

NCCU should never have agreed to act as a substitute for the seminole band. It seems to be a slap in the face to the state of North Carolina. I can't imagine what they were thinking. Moreover, if the noles let the football players miss class, then why not the band.

NCCU's band did a great job. What non-sense for North Carolineans to be outraged and critical. On the otherhand, FSU did not look good on the field. Cornerbacks beaten badly, defensive line mis-directed out of their shoes and kicking teams so anemic we fans hardly knew they made the trip. And, another game of field confusion and hemoraging timeout usage. UGLY! Coach Bowden, we love you but face the fact: the offense has been inconsistent for six continuous years!
