Fisher set to join Florida State?

For weeks it been a well known "secret" that Florida State was aggressively wooing LSU OC Jimbo Fisher to take the OC position for the Seminoles, made vacant when Jeff Bowden was pushed out.

According to beat writer Tom D'Angelo's Palm Beach Post blog, the deal to sign Fisher at FSU is done.

One prominent Division 1-A head coach told me Tuesday at the Orange Bowl that Fisher’s deal with Florida State was done. That coach also said Fisher is well respected in the industry and would be a great addition to the Seminoles.

It has been reported that new Alabama head coach Nick Saban has called Fisher to offer him the OC position with the Crimson Tide; however, sources confirming the UA rumor also confirm that Fisher intends to join Bobby Bowden's staff in Tallahassee, with a decision coming perhaps as early as Friday.

So, why would Fisher join Bowden rather than his old friend Nick Saban, for whom he worked for five years? Well, the obvious assumption would be the Fisher would have the inside track at taking over at Florida State when Coach Bowden retires.

Will it happen? I guess we'll find out as soon as Friday.

I'm not so sure how I feel about Fisher. Its not like LSU is known as an offensive powerhouse. I've watched enough of their 7-3 type losses to know its their defense that wins games for them (of course, playing Notre Dame, any offense can look good). But I don't think I'd be too disappointed if this falls through. The only thing though is if it does fall through...then what????

Fisher would have to be crazy to take the Alabama job. After the way the Alabama Board of Trustees robbed him of the opportunity to become the head coach at UAB, why would he want to deal with those people ever again?

Jimbo has a deal to join FSU. Why would Fisher go to Alabama? Five coaches in 10 years. Plus he'd have a shot to replace Bowden when he retires.

I would love to see Jimbo Fisher come to FSU. The fans are a little more forgiving than at Alabama. I live in Alabama and the fans here are borderline insane. His knowledge of Saban's defense would help FSU beat the Tide in Sept. 2007. Bobby Bowden really wants to beat Bama and Fisher can help. Plus Fisher is a great recruiter, which will help since we lost Kevin Steele to the Tide. Please Jimbo, come to Tallahasse, the REAL T-town. Not tuscaloosa.

That is Les Miles fault. Miles developed and ENFORCED that run oriented into the teeth of the AU defense gameplane, when he shoudl have gone to the air where they were successful.

Fisher is a great recruiter and torched Miami for 40 in 05', ND, Arky, and others in 06'...he is very good.

The reason that I agree with the idea that Jimbo will join FSU is not just because of the future lead for a head coaching job when BB retires and the ties with the B family. But because Jimbo has to be really angry at the Alabama Board of Trustees who unilaterally took the UAB head coaching job away from Jimbo just several weeks ago...in hopes of luring Jimbo to be become the OC
at Alabama. So instead of a sweet $600,000 a year job--he gets $250,000 and change.

Jimbo Fisher should join Saban at Alabama. Florida State will be down a few more years and Alabama should be on the way up and have at least a 10 win season in 2007. Jimbo has a better chance at a head coaching position on a team that does well. ( LSU is better, but he is leaving there.) At a recovering Alabama, he would have a chance at both Alabama , FSU and other head coaching positions. If FSU does not recover in 2007 or 2008 , Jimbo's future will suffer if he is their Offensive Coordinator. (There will be one extra loss in Jacksonville for FSU in 2007.) Time will probably run out for the next FSU OC with Bobby Bowden retiring before the OC will be able to implement necessary changes and recruit enough players to get the offense back on track. FSU may then hire the new head coach from outside an unsuccessful coaching staff, maybe even from Clemson.

Jimbo Fisher most likely would not have accepted the University of Alabama at Birmingham position for any amount of money, but the $600,000 offer would have been handy to establish his professional value. But he could get an offer of that amount or more to be the OC at Alabama, which would be more of a career advancement for him than the UAB job.

    MJWJr. #21 & #22

Florisa State will be down a few more years? Are you crazy? Last year we had the #3 recruiting class in america. The year before that #4. The year before that #3 again. And this past year FSU started more freshman than any team in D1. But your right, Alabama "should" be on the way up. Right. Alabama had the #22 class last year and #21 the year before that and Im quite sure their national ranking will be much lower than those considering the talent prevalent throughout the SEC. If Jimbo joins UA he will just be another part of the most expensive flop in the history of college football. Who needs that embarrasement? We made the BCS last year with the #90 something ranked rushing offense and we just brought in Rick Trickett from UVW, only regarded the top offensive line coach in college football. But enough with that. The picture as to which way these programs are heading will be seen on September 29. Good luck. You will need it. I feel sorry for the whole state of Alabama, the most impoverished state in the union, who can afford to spend $40 million on a coaching staff for a state funded university. So, when all their fans are sitting in their double-wides, watching their black & white 13" televisions, with their teeth rotting out, they can yell ROLL TIDE.

noleinater where do you get you rankings from comic books, do more research bro. As for Jimbo Fisher I could care less if he's Bama's OC personally. I have great respect for BB and believe Fisher might be a little overated. If comes to Bama great if he don't the are great OC to be had all over football. Don't knock Bama a place you know nothing about accept what the media tells you which is obviously your only guide for common sense. We all know the media is the most honest profession in america and would never tell you something that wasn't true. Either way on this issue I could care less, the TIDE will be fine either way.

To clarify, no offense to The U of A or their fan base. My best friend is a huge Tide fan. But when the impoverished citizens of that state are left out in the cold, with little or no healthcare, and the government of the state allows $40 million to a college sports staff, that is just wrong. I know the people need something to put their faith, loyalty, and energy in, but Im sure they would like food and shelter also. And as for my comic book stats, I got them from Rivals.com. http://floridastate.rivals.com/teamrank.asp?SID=1061 It is widely held that they are the most reputable and qualified recruit ranking organization available. I share your feelings on the media but I dont think Rivals.com has any hidden agenda. I wish the Tide the best, except on Sept. 29. I hope they pound the Gators every year. Saban snatched Coach Steele from us yesterday, he will be a great addition to UA.

I love the noles but Im not sure about the champs of anything next year. It takes a little time to implement an entire new staff and system but thats not the half of it. Take a look at their schedule. Even BB says it's the hardest he's seen yet. Im not being cynical just real.

@ Home we have : UM, NCST, MARYLAND, DUKE, and a very underrated UAB. None of these are very scary but...

But we have to travel to: UF, Colorado, BAMA in J-Ville, BC, VT, WAKE, and Clemson.

Anything is possible, but that away scedule is a bit frightening.

I don't see why Alabama is a great career move for him- Unless for the money. If Fisher goes to AU and has success, most of the credit goes to Saban. If he goes to FSU, he gets most of the credit. Also, recent FSU hires of Trickett and Dawsey point to Fisher joining them. Both coaches worked with Fisher at LSU.

eer10 i seem to agree with you on this post, ia little, i think fsu will compete in the acc atlantic and could very well win it, but that is the weaker of the two divisions in the ACC even if the past two champs came from it, if clemson plays well we might win it, if wake continues they are the favorites, but i think belive it or not maryland should be the favorite right now, i think you give fisher one year to develop that offense and fsu is back in the national spotlight, but i have always somewhat pulled for fsu except when they play clemson obviously, but looking at your schedule nolinator heres what i would project now:
    Home:
UM-W miami still needs a while, but soon they will be back, fsu wins by 3
NCST-W- amotos gone and that is a pest off of you guys, win big
Maryland-L- they will be good next year so a close loss
Duke-W lets be honest here its duke
UAB-W- highly underated yes but if the d plays solid win but closer than people will think
    AWAY GAMES:
UF-L- sorry to say it myself UF is good right now and i think they win in OT in a battle of the d's, but go noles!!
Colorado-W-good game no doubt but colorado is slow they dont have the talent....for now, but i think a big win for you guys
Bama-W- i dont care who the coach is right now, they need one year to adjust and then they will be back, but another close win for FSU
BC-W- very big game on offense for FSU here, bc has no obrien, hes not great but still, big win for FSU
VA-Tech-L- its extreamly hard to win in lane stadium and i think we see up to 5 blocked punts/kicks, great game but a tough loss.
WAKE-W- i would love to see wake do it again but not happening fsu will be looking for revenge after this year, good game, fsu win
CLEMSON-push- i hate picking in this game because i like both teams, but if i had to choose my heart is with my tigers noleinator, you know how it is, but it will be a great game in DEATH VALLEY. so i guess i count this as a loss, my heart man all my heart.
    final record:8-4 (5-3 in ACC)
but the following season 08-09, god only knwos how good you guys will be, 8-4 is better than 6-6 i say a peach bowl win and a 9-4 record. good luck to your noles man!!!
    GO TIGERS!!!

nolinater i've been there and have had it on my fav. sites. The truth is FSU has been in the top in recruiting for alot longer than you have listed yet they've still had there obvious issues recently. And Bama has been under probation and less scholarchips and still have been up there. Which by the is over as of Feb 1st. The money paying Sabans is not coming from tax dollars but from boosters and contributers, but maybe you have some inside information I'm not aware of outside of the honest mudslingers, I mean media. I appreciate your concern bro, but outside our blue collar jobs its the one of my personal favorite gettaways of my hard days work. Hey but thats just me. As an optimist I'll say that you are only half way in the dark. Those people that welcomed him off the plane are not the suffering impoverished people of the state. The people I speak of dont have cars, maybe not houses, and are so consumed with trying to fight the great struggle are not going to ba able to drive to the airport to welcome a $38 million coach. I know the state will get their tax revenue from the salary. But the state would benefit much more if its prize educational institution of higher learning had another $20 million or so to provide more and greater education to the fine citizens of that state. And Im no hypocrite because when I found out that Jeff Bowden resigned I almost shed tears of joy. But when I heard it took bosster $$ to oust him I was a little angry. ANd I feel the same way that right this very minute the Seminole and Tide boosters are having a bidding war over the services of Jimbo Fisher. Its quite embarrasing I think for both schools.

    Nolinator,

We appreciate your concerns for the people of Bama but you should be aware that UA's athletic department grossed $69m last year with less than $61m in expenses. That resulted in $8m in the bank and/or distributed to academic departments at the school. By the way Oklahoma grossed $61m and spent $61m, FSU spent $40m. The AL surplus was in spite of record spending on football facility upgrades. Additional spending on the coaching staff will be offset by increased revenues from endorsements, TV, bowls and reduced spending on facilities. I would content that the Tide Athletic department is a huge positive to the state of Alabama. You have to spend money to make money.

    bill,

Hello!... This is a Blog dedicated to the sole purpose of College Football itself. So I do not know where you get off getting on this Blog and spouting off with your "Wake Up America Rhetoric?

Listen, I'm just as much Pro America or even more so than the next guy, as a matter of fact I'm in the Navy if that helps? You have a point about coaches being paid "WAY" too much money, I'm in total agreeance with you.

But, when you say things like: "Wake up , football is only a game , but life isn't ! If you guys payed as much attention to what is happening in your state and too your country as you do football , then this whole country would be alot better off . So put down your gameboys and come in to the real world" .

You come off as an idiot who loves to push there views and opinions on everyone else, instead of letting people make up there own minds on situations.

Like I said bill, I love America and I would die for it any day......and will continue to do my part for it's infinite existence or as long as the world lasts?

You know?...... Before you get on here trying to tell other people what they "should" be doing and "should" not be doing.... "You" have to ask yourself.... Have you been doing all that you can to support this Great Country?

If you have that is again all fine and dandy, but this is a "College Football" Blog and "not" a "Government" or "WAR" related Blog. Get it?

One more thing bill..... alot of guys on here may be on here to get rid of..... or get away from the everday stresses of "The Real World" as you call it.... You see bill?......... For most of us College Football is the next best thing to sex.(I'm not necessarily speaking for everyone on here)

It can.... and does relieve.... or make us all happy and even sad at times,.... and for you to get on here and tell us it's basically a pile of dogshit is wrong in every "American Way".

So please bill.....if it's not too much trouble? Take your government, political, and war views to the proper place...... and it's definitely not here! Thank you.

Not Virginia, but not too far away either.....just a little further north. But, due to the Military's recent frowning upon it's personnel and their involvement in blogs, I would rather keep that on the down-low.
