FSU withdraws offer to Jimbo Fisher -- UPDATED

1/6/2007 - 11:53p
Florida State head coach Bobby Bowden has pulled the Seminoles OC position offer for LSU OC Jimbo Fisher after negotiations broke down tonight.

"Florida State will move forward to pursue other options among a number of outstanding coaches who want to share in FSU's traditions and values," said Bowden. "Coach Fisher will be a benefit to whatever organization he ends up with and we will secure the best coach available to lead our offense."

FSU had expected to introduce Fisher at a press conference Friday night, but negotiations with Fisher and his agent stalled amid reports of a revised offer from Alabama, rumored interest from at least one NFL team, and reports that Fisher would be a top candidate at Georgia Tech if Chan Gailey were to leave for the NFL. After additional negotiations on Saturday, FSU and Fisher could not come to an agreement on details regarding a buyout clause if Fisher were to leave FSU.

There is talk that the Alabama offer for Fisher has also been withdrawn amid reports that LSU is working to keep Fisher in Baton Rouge.

So, despite all the talk that Fisher would be coaching elsewhere, it now appears that Fisher will be back on the sideline for the LSU Tigers next fall.

UPDATE

1/7/2006 - 4:27p EST
In a very strange, very unusual turn of events, Florida State and Fisher are back at the table talking contracts.

I have to believe that -- given Coach Bowden's previous statement -- this has very little chance of producing an agreement, but there is definitely some smoke coming out of Tallahassee again regarding Fisher.

UPDATE

1/8/2006 - 9:45a EST
Word out of Tallhassee says that FSU has reached an agreement with Fisher (again?!) and he may be introduced at an afternoon press conference today. If this is true, this is truly an amazing turn of events. Someone at FSU is going to deserve an awful lot of credit for putting Fisher and Trickett together. I'll also be interested to see the length of any potential Fisher agreement, as the term could foreshadow even bigger changes for Florida State.

UPDATE

1/8/2006 - 12:45p EST Florida State has hired Jimbo Fisher as the new Offensive Coordinator for the Seminoles. A press conference will be held this afternoon. Details to follow shortly.

Maybe Fisher will stay at LSU. I don't think that they could take any more bad news right now without suffering a complete meltdown.

Sounds like Bobby Bowden doesn't want to get into a bidding war with the Daddy Warbucks Crimson Tide.

Jimbo's the #1 choice of former LSU Associate AD Dan Radakovich if Chan Gailey leaves for the Fins...which it's rumored he's on Wayne Huizenga's short list...

Post # 2. Didn't say that you are in a meltdown Paul. LSU fans are so freaked by Saban going to Alabama that I said if Fisher left it could very well cause a melt down from all the bad news. Learn to comprehend what you read kid.

Try to answer this in an intelligent manner. Saban has been gone from LSU for two years. Why in the hell do you care where he goes now? LSU doesn't a life time claim to him.

haha. bamas got dat money in tha bank, jimbo whatcha drank.
forget about it. hes comin to bama to coach with his close friend nick AKA "the man" saban. it doesnt even matter cuz bamas reclaiming their throne atop the SEC. he hates LSU and les miles, there are too many other programs interested in him for him to go back there next year.

haha Alabama's like the Yankees of college football. everyone hates em cuz theyre the all-time best and have more money than anyone. but the fans love and adore them...even through slumps.

Rumors are definitely circulating that Jimmy Sexton and Dave Hart are still negotiating the details of Fisher's possible contract at FSU.

I've heard it from numerous sources in Tallahassee.

Perhaps Bowden was afraid of having a true head-coaching candidate waiting in the wings behind him? After all, once the fans can't blame Bowden Jr, the head for Papa B. will be called for next...and Fisher would be the easy alternate.

FSU should hire Mike Shula and Jeff Bowden can go coach the Dolphins.

We will make football the surreal life.

The good news is that if they can't get Jimbo...

The Noles already have an Offensive Coordinator with experience working in the athletic department just signed to a crisp new 5 year contract starting in August...

    Jeff Bowden...

Now I wonder if the smoke is out of Tiger town. Got a feeling someone other than King Bobby initiated this round of discussions. Too many other good candidates for OCs - for a lot less money!

I've seen a couple reports - which I cannot confirm - that the big brush-up last night was driven more by Fisher's agent (Jimmy Sexton) than by Fisher himself. Apparently Fisher and his wife are intent on signing at FSU and his agent is intent on testing the market.

Given the open positions at Minnesota and now Louisville, it will be interesting to see if Fisher ends up at FSU, LSU, or somewhere else completely.

FSU need to forget about Dumbo Fisher and his greedy agent. I have two words for the Seminole nation. Lane Kiffin. He is an offensive genius, has a better system, and would be a much better candidate to replace Bob Bowden as head coach.

For those of you who didn't already know:

In 2001, as an offensive coordinator under Tom Coughlin, Petrino managed to take a 7-9 (2000) Jacksonville Jaguars team and turn them into a fantastic 6-10 team....Before they could demote him, he fled the NFL to become an offensive coordinator at mighty Auburn...

The problem with Kiffin is he is not a QB coach, he is a WR coach. They just hired Dawsey as a WR coach. That is the only problem I see with him.

Kiffin was a quarterback at Fresno State for 3 seasons (1994-96). So one would think that he could coach QB's
