FSU Record by Uniform Color Combination

Hot on the heels of FSU tricking up their uniform last year and going with the all-black Unconquered uniform, here's a quick examination of the Florida State football record over the last eight seasons by uniform color combination.

1999 - 2006 FSU Football Record by Uniform Color

Jersey/Pants W/L
-----------------------------------
Garnet/Gold 39-10
White/Gold 13-10
White/Garnet 10-4
Garnet/Garnet 8-0
White/White 4-2
Garnet/White 0-1
Black/Black 0-1

So, what does the 2007 have in store for Coach Bowden and the Seminoles? A lot more garnet jersey/garnet pants uniforms, I suspect.

I'd like to see the black uni's, w/o "unconquered" written on the pant leg!!! Good one gatorhippy... a bit embarassing.

I'm in favor of the Garnet/Garnet colors... the Garnet/Gold and the White/Garnet combo.

Only Florida State is stupid enough to wear all black in the florida heat.

    Marko #3:

The only thing stupid was your lame comment and for FSU to have "unconquered" on the pant leg. :o)

I'm sorry but is FSU the only team to rock/have all black uni's? I didn't know that one game in all black would kill them from heat exhaustion.

Ok don't be stupid please. Unconquered is a TRIBUTE to the SEMINOLE TRIBE, because they never backed-down from/made peace with, the united states. It had nothing to do with football performance. The choice of the uniform (or game at which the uniform was worn) might have something to do with BC's use of papal maroon and gold which look exactly like garnet and gold. Perhaps FSU was trying to be polite to the confused eagle fans who kept cheering in thier first ACC game when FSU was actually doing the scoring.

I think those Eagle fans were cheering because they beat the Noles in Tally...

    JMHO...

Stick to the garnet jersey/gold pants and white jersey/gold pants. Just keep beatin' Miami and you (FSU) will be alright! YOU NEED TO CO-ORDINATE! Garnet on garnet or any team in football that wears the same color top and bottom is flat out boring/ugly. I wish FOOTBALL in general would eliminate white helmets and all white top and bottom!

i like black/black...it looks so badass, for the gamecocks that is, however ive never seen black/black on the seminoles...theres nothing like watching jasper brinkley crushing kenny irons in the back field while all black

    Nolen1999,

It's obviously you never played a sport seriously. Wearing all black in Florida at 1pm-4pm isnt the smartest thing in the world to do. They are not comfortable and heat a players body up about 10x faster than light colors would.

I agree with Marko. Stick with you school colors. Black does not put fear in the opposing team. WINNING does. Besides Florida State won those games in the all garnet gear against teams they knew they could beat! Try 'em against Miami, Florida, Virginia Tech, or Alabama!

    #7 - Gatorhippy-

I -think- you missed my joke... not sure. The first ACC game for BC was FSU in Boston. FSU won 28 - 14. The joke was because both teams were wearing the same uniform (well one was away one was home but otherwise very similar). When BC won in Tallahassee the noles were wearing the black uniform. So the cheering I was referring to took place a year previous to the uniform change. I shouldn't really have to explain that but, hey, anyone who has been to a game at ben hill griffith stadium knows those aren't the brightest little orange and blue wearing lightbulbs so I will cut you some slack.

At collins: Miami is gonna lose again, they may have needed to change thier program but I think they made change for the worst. Florida would be quite blessed to win 4 in a row in our rivalry, they out talent us quite a bit but mostly in very young inexperienced players. This could be our year! We are expected to beat Alabama and honestly I'm pretty sure we will. VT hasn't been FSU for something like 13 of our last games, it may be thier year, but I hope not. The ACC doesn't need anymore pretenders to the throne with Miami and FSU in the mix. By raw talent recruiting FSU and Miami should not have much of a challenge outside the occasional clemson loss but we all saw last year. Hopefully it will actually be fun to watch FSU football again. It has been painful for some time not being suprised at what play is called. The days of Run up the middle, Run up the middle, Deep Ball, Punt, are done! (Again, Hopefully)

Unfortunately FSU and Nike decided on the date for the black on black uniform before the year even began, and it was thought since it was BC's first trip to Tally the game would be on in prime time either on ESPN or ABC but due to FSU's inability to beat anyone last year the game was moved to a 4pm start, I was there and it wasn't completely unbearable and by the second half the field was covered in shadows

Hey FSU fan...I am not saying that FSU isn't a good team. I am stating that a JERSEY or UNIFORM COMBINATION does not beat a team. WILL does. A team can wear what they want but me personally ... stick with ya' school colors and not wear the same color top and bottom! And yes they (FSU) will beat Miami by a field goal!

lennie - stick with interior decorating and fashion design. i don't think i've ever heard of a straight man go on about "same color top and bottoms" before - especially concerning football. they're uniforms, not outfits.

YO Jesse...first of all I do not know what the heck me saying stick with your original top and bottoms (colors) have to do with being heterosexual or homosexual. If you are concerned, I am heterosexual. I am into law enforcement field so I do not know where you got this interior decorator and fashion designer GARBAGE from. Anyway the official name of what the players wear are JERSEYS not uniforms look it up...YOU BIG DUMMY!

A word about black unis: the color of the fabric has nothing to do with how quickly the body heats up, it is a long held notion that certain colours worn in warm climates can adversely affect the body's temperature. Not true folks, i work for Dupont in R&D and it's the WEIGHT of the fabric that makes the difference, not the colour

I wished South Carolina would have stuck with the black helmets/jerseys. They looked good. The garnet helmets/jerseys weren't bad either!

Briggy: I can see where the weight of the fabric would trump the color, but I think a dark color would still be somewhat significant, right?

Lighter-weight jerseys might be key, but do we want to go back down the tear-away jerseys road again? Earl Campbell might....

War Eagle, trust me on this the colour of the fabric means nothing at all, absolutely nothing! the notion of darker colours relating to extra heat originates from the fashion industry, the view is that darker colours are more associated with the cooler climes and it is a misconception that almost everyone buys into, look at it this way, a baggy loose fitting shirt made from 100% black linen worn in 95 degree heat, will feel just the same as the shirt made from white. Its all in the weight and the type of fabric used, not the colour.

Briggy: So there's nothing to the adage that light colors reflect sunlight and darker ones absorb it? We're assuming in this example that the sun is shining very brightly, in addition to giving off it's normal heat.

    post 23

im thinkin all black is the best...even though a gamecock isnt really much black as it is garnetish i think black looks awesome and maybe put white jersey in every few games to mix it up and the garnet would be nice sometimes too but black is the best...all the best highlights i see the gamecocks wear black jerseys...like season opener against miss state last year when blake mitchell took the snapp took a few steps back looked like there was nothing he could do so they came in with a blitz and then he lateraled to syvelle newton and he bombed a 53 yard td pass to cory boyd(the rb)...maybe the best play i saw all yeer...well in my opinion because of all syvelle had been through that was a great comeback...DAMN im getting off topic sorry

I'm waiting for a team to come out with reflective colors. That way, they look like their opponent, and their opponent doesn't know who to tackle or who to block.

theres a problem with that...the qb wont know who to throw it to you and also youll see the funniest thing that they could do...a linebacker comes in with a blitz and instead of a sack the qb hands the ball off to him
