FSU signs home-and-home with USF, moving Miami?

Well, well, well... what have we here. The state of Florida's palindrome universities have signed a home-and-home for 2009 and 2012.

Florida State Director of Athletics Randy Spetman announced Wednesday that Florida State and USF have agreed to a contract that will have the two football programs play a home-and-home series beginning in 2009. The squads will meet for the first time ever next season in Tallahassee in a game scheduled for September 26. The return meeting will take place in Tampa, September 29, 2012.

This is a nice upgrade for USF and a very dangerous series for the Noles. Florida State will be favored in this year's matchup. Despite a slight SOS pop, FSU really gets no upside in a win. On the other hand, a victory in Tallahassee by the Bulls would be a major milestone for USF. I like the series, but I think this game might mean more to USF than FSU and that can mean a trap game for the Noles.

FSU 2009 Football Schedule (tentative)
Sep. 5 Maine
Sep. 19 @ Brigham Young
Sep. 26 South Florida
Nov. 28 @ Florida.
ACC Games: Maryland, North Carolina State, Georgia Tech, Miami, @ Clemson, @ Wake Forest, @ Boston College, and @ North Carolina.

Speaking of the Florida State's 2009 schedule, it appears that a Labor Day matchup between FSU and Miami is now all but set. The Canes have rescheduled their games with Florida A&M and Oklahoma to later dates in the 2009 season, opening Labor Day weekend for the rumored game at Florida State.

FSU still has some housekeeping to do, canceling a home game with the mighty FCS Maine, finding $900,000 to pay off the Bears, and rescheduling another home date. Word on the street is that ESPN is helping with cash and an opponent for FSU, meaning the Maine debacle could be replaced with another FBS home game. Why is ESPN so hungry for the Noles? Ratings. FSU's bowl game drew the second highest bowl ratings ever for ESPN and the Noles always seem to be a TV hit for the Worldwide Leader.

So... looks like another Labor Day FSU-Miami series is just weeks away from being final.
