Georgia-Alabama Game to be Blacked-Out
No, not that kind of blackout. This isn't the NFL, it's the SEC, and they sell all their tickets. Nope, it's that time of the season again where Georgia has to resort to gimmickry to get an edge over an opponent, which is rapidly becoming a hallmark of the Mark Richt era. For this Saturday's nationally televised game with Alabama, Richt has green-lighted the players to wear black jerseys instead of their normal red ones. Fans are also encouraged to wear black, in order to both support the team and to mourn Wall Street and the demise of capitalism last week.
This would be the second successive year in which Georgia has resorted to the trendy black garb, which not only make them look more menacing to opponents, but instantly qualifies them to either work in a hair salon or serve at Ruby Tuesdays after college. No confirmation yet with rumors that Richt received a call from Oregon coach Mike Bellotti, who allegedly asked him to "not be starting some sort of wardrobe war..." Oregon is currently the NCAA record holder, with more choices with their uniforms than you can get hashbrown combinations at Waffle House...
Not to be outdown with this bit of nostalgia, today Alabama coach Nick Saban announced that he and Richt would conspire before Saturday to 'fix' the game like they used to do in the old days with Bear and Wally Butts. Alabama and Saban will appear on the cover of the bi-monthly journal, American Bookmaker, which recently laid down odds whether the Tide would grace the front cover of any more magazines this year.
