Georgia Tech QB may miss VaTech game

After missing Tech's 28-13 victory over Connecticut, questions are swarming over the status of Gerogia Tech starting QB Reggie Ball for the upcoming game against defending ACC champion Virginia Tech.

Ball was hospitalized Saturday morning with a as-of-yet undisclosed ailment. He spent Saturday night at Emory Hospital undergoing tests and being off-limits to visitors. According to reports, Reggie Ball has been sufferring for the last few days with what was described as "migraines".

It's too early to tell how long the recovery time will be for Ball and if he will rejoin the Yellow Jackets before the Hokies game. Redshirt freshman QB Taylor Bennett did a fine job in fending off UConn, but the GT fans know they will need Ball in the lineup to have a shot at knocking off VaTech.

If Ball is experiencing migraines, then he could be held for test through the early part of the week. Hopefully for Ball, the headaches are not a symptom of a serious problem, but for the guy to try to fight through it late in the week only to head to the hospital on Saturday morning, you have to think that this is a pretty serious concern.

UPDATE: Reggie Ball has viral meningitis and will stay in the hospital until Monday.

The Associated Report indicated today that Reggie Ball is suffering from viral miningitis, an infection of the spinal cord and brain. It's a common viral infection on college campuses, according to the AP article. It is not serious and usually one recovers in a week. It is much less serious than bacterial miningitis. You can visit www.tennessean.com to find the article. I'm sure the article ran in today's Atlanta Journal-Constitution and probably every other major daily newspaper in the U.S., too. Let's hope Reggie recovers soon.

Correction: That should have read Associated Press, not Associated Report.
