Dennis Erickson hired at Idaho

Despite all the talk of being hired at a "big time" program (much of it initiated by Fanblogs, in all fairness), Dennis Erickson has been named the head coach of the Idaho football team.

Erickson, who coached at Idaho from 1982-1985, returns the scene of his first head coaching job.

“I just thought it was an opportunity for me to come back, give back and get back to coaching college football . . . my first love,” Erickson said at a news conference.

The five-year deal --reported at $200,000 per year, plus bonuses-- seems to be paying off already for the Vandals. Officials estimate that they have already sold another 400 season tickets - a big chunck when you consider that Idaho had only 3400 season ticket holders last year.

"They're just really excited about the hire and they want to get in now while they can still get tickets," Bartels said. "We did bring in an extra person on Thursday, just thinking we would be pretty busy, and we were right. We're almost as busy (on Friday)."

    Good for the vandals then. Like the story says, even if they still don't win they'll sell more tickets

    Another bad blow for Pat Hill at Fresno State. Just when Dan Hawkins was gone, and Fresno thought they were finally gonna get to win a conference championship, here comes Erickson to ruin the party. Well, this may be one Dawg who never has his day!

    Give Idaho a year or two:

    You will have felony arrests of players
    You will have a team that will average 150 yds a game in penalties

    You will have a zillion prop 48's

    Ericson is a bum, recruits bums and Idaho will be om probation with the NCAA sooner, than later

    The fact that you have never played for Erickson(Note you also lack spelling skills, it is not Ericson u bum)really reinforces the fact that not only are you just a BUM spectator!!!!!but also a hater, who probably operates from his lazy-boy or couch. Erickson is a football coach, and managing fifty three kids who love nothing more but to play football, is a difficult business. The learning curve is short and the agony can have an incredible effect on the psyche. Walk in these shoes in a ighly competitive sport of "legalized violence" within a fishbowl of pencil pushing sky reporters who have done nothing but push pencils, without having played a single down in the trenches and you will understand that success like failure is an event not an individual.

    Ah, back to his first love? Erickson's first true love is, and always has been, himself. Ask any of the universities where he has committed to coach, only to break his contract and move on when a better offer comes along. Good luck, Idaho. You've got a great coach, until a better offer comes along.
