Texas DC Chizik hired at Iowa State
Gene Chizik, Texas assistant head coach and co-defensive coordinator, will be introduced as the next head football coach at Iowa State. Chizik is expected to be introduced at a news conference at 6 p.m. Monday at Hilton Coliseum in Ames.
A plane owned by the company of former NFL quarterback Troy Aikman is en route to Ames from Austin, Tex., this morning with Chizik on board. It's scheduled to touch down at the Ames airport just before 11 a.m.

He's a great DC, but he probably could have held out for a better situation than the one he's committed to at Iowa State. Great DC's need the recruiting base that you get at Auburn and Texas. Iowa State will continue to play the little sister role to the Iowa Hawkeyes and will more than likely lose there own in-state recruiting battle with Iowa. Even more so, he now has to recruit against Texas and other Big 12 schools like Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech who tend to out-recruit the Cyclones year in and year out. Iowa's defense should improve from this past season, but it's not likely that they'll be able to compete with the big boys any time in the near future. The level of play in the Big 12 has dropped off a bit this season and he's probably hoping it will continue to drop so that his team can compete. In any event, he's definately earned the oppurtunity to be a head coach and hopefully he'll have success at Iowa State.

You all don't know much of ISU Athletics these days. The new AD is aggressive and ambitious for the program and has a budget for a change. Chizik can hire some quality assistants and actually pay them.
Ames is a pretty cool little town (no pun intended) and a small town was something he said he was looking for.
Iowa and the midwest has lots of football players that would love to play for this guy.
In the living room vs. Bill Callahan I'll take Gene. Who knows who will be coaching in Iowa City. I hear Ferenz has ears for Pittsburgh should Cowher be relived.Milo said:

Chizik signed a six-year $6.75 million contract with $250,000 base salary and a guaranteed $750,000 in money from outside sources for the 2007-08 season. The package includes $1.5 million to be paid to Chizik's assistants - an amount ranking Iowa State third in the Big 12 for assistant coaches.
ISU has also approved a $35 Million dollar renovation project at Jack Trice Stadium. They will be bowling in the entire South endzone.
ISU is definatly an up-and-coming program! They are doing things the right way. I definatly disagree that ISU is the "little sister" to Iowa. Iowa State has beaten Iowa in 5 of their last 8 meetings.

The "Little Sister" comment I made regarding Iowa State was based on recruiting athletes, not head to head matchups. The past 12 head to head records allthough favoring Iowa State, did not result in Iowa State being able to out-recruit Iowa. Even though Iowa's best recruiting class in many years was last year, they have heavily outrecruuited Iowa State over the past several years. Iowa State has a well documented history of not making the "Top 50" recruiting classes year in and year out. Chizik will definately have to change that to have any success. Like it or not, when it comes to recruiting in Iowa, Iowa State is the "Little Sister" to Iowa Football.
