Iowa State dials up irony; hires another Auburn coach
You gotta hand it to the Iowa State Cyclones. Some of the ISU homers were down when Gene Chizik walked away from the program to take the head coaching job at Auburn. But did the Cylcones give up hope? Heck no. Instead they went to the library, looked up irony, and then called a former Auburn coach about their opening.
Iowa State will introduce Paul Rhoads as its next football head coach on Saturday evening. The official media advisory has gone out to alert media to a 5:00 p.m. press conference at ISU to introduce Rhoads as the next head coach....
Rhoads was the defensive coordinator at Auburn in 2008 but found himself out of work with the resignation of Tommy Tuberville.
So not only has Iowa State completed the ISU-Auburn ying-yang, but they've also dipped into the well that brought another former Auburn DC -- one Mr. Gene Chizik -- to the Cyclones just a few years ago.
I don't know who Chizik's DC is going to be at Auburn next season, but I would go ahead and put money on him to be head coach in Ames somewhere down the road.
