Virginia's OC leading candidate at Kansas State

With former Wildcats Gary Patterson & Jim Leavitt off the table with new deals and OU's Brent Venables pulling his name from consideration, Kansas State has arranged a second interview with Virginia OC Ron Prince.

Prince is a Kansas native, but has no ties to retired K-State head Coach Bill Snyder, once seen as a key to landing the Kansas State football job. Prince met with three K-State reps in Charlottesville this week and immediately moved to the top of the candidate list.

If hired, Prince would become the fourth African-American coach in Division I-A.

Really? I mean REALLY? Virginia's offensive coordinator? Can't we do better than that. What has Virginia done? This year 6-5, and not that impressive of an offense, especially against good defense. Last year, 8-4 lost to every good team they played, and lost to Fresno State in the bowl game. I don't care if he is a great guy or interviews well, we need a good coach. Why aren't we going after more talented available coaches?

    Todd,

    You hit the nail on the head. Besides two offensive linemen that the media is pumping up as Prince's success, they have nothing else to say about what he's done at Virginia. It seems like Kansas St. is jumping the gun on this hire, when guys that have paid their dues are available;

    Greg Davis Offensive Cord, Texas
    Bo Pelini, Defensive Cord, LSU
John Tenuta, Defensive Cord, Georgia Tech
Pat Hill, Head Coach, Fresno St.
    Mike Price, Head Coach, UTEP
Gregg Brandon, Head Coach, Bowling Green

I find it hard to believe Kansas St. wasn't interested in any of the above canidates. But I guess Bill Snyder and the Kansas St. A.D. thinks Ron Price has more qualifications than the above coaches. Another victory for the quota crowd, what a shame.

    K Hat,

Apparently all the above mentioned coaches are white? I don't know all of them, but a little info.

Bo Pelini: Cussed and insulted Snyder after game in Lincoln.
Pat Hill: Has turned down several major programs.
Mike Price: Has nationally known baggage. You know what I'm taling about.
Gregg Brandon: How successful have mid-major coaches been at the Big 12 level?

I'm sure Bill Snyder is really concerned with the color of the new coaches skin. Hey, nice to see the racists are already making noise

    Drew,

I don't care what the skin color of any coach is, but the fact remains, Prince's only track record of success is two Offensive Linemen that are All Americans. That's qualification for a head coaching position at a major college program?

Yeah, all the coaches I listed are white, so that's a bad thing? I'm a racist because I point out a guy with less qualifications got the job? I would say that's someone pointing out the facts. But as the old saying goes, truth hurts.

    P.S.

Price has better qualifications than Greg Davis of Texas? No kidding?

Tell me something...who the hell was Bill Snyder when he was hired at KSU? How do you know who you are getting until you get them? Give him a chance...just because he is a black guy doesn't mean that is the reason he was hired. It didn't give him any preferential treatment, it didn't give him an opportunity that was above that of anyone else. The reason he got the job is because he was the best interview, he was the right fit for the job, he was exactly what KSU was looking for and needed. You watch...all the nay-sayers and negitive nelleys out there will not only be pleasently supprised, but in two years when KSU is playing for the national title, I hope you save the crow you are going to eat for your tailgate party. Remember one thing and one thing only...Go 'Cats

sorry Matt, but looking at recriuting, there is no way that a guy with the credentials of price can take k state to the national title game. He better first focus on the big 12 north title game, because that is even a long shot. Good luck down there at K -State, i hope you can rise up to the power you were a couple years ago. The big red up north are on the rise, and i hope to see some good games in the future

    K Hat:

Ron Prince is 3 - 0 at Kansas State. They may actually make a bowl game in their first year with a new system. Meanwhile, Dan Hawkins is 0 - 3 and may go 0 - 12 with last year's Big 12 North champs. Any comments?
