Third QB in five months to transfer from Kansas St
What was supposed to be a hotly contested QB battle between five prospective candidates, has now dwindled down to only two.
Sophomore Allan Evridge announced Wednesday he would be leaving the school, becoming the third Kansas State QB to do so since April. Evridge made six starts at QB in 2005.
Senior Allen Webb, the Wildcats starting QB for five games last year, made his decision to transfer to NAIA Texas College just last week, and redshirt freshman Kevin Lopina transferred to Washington State in April.
The defections leave KSU with only two scholarship QBs - senior Dylan Meier and freshman Josh Freeman, just weeks before the start of the season.
Probably not exactly what new Wildcats Head Coach Ron Prince had in mind for his first season at the helm.

That sucks, Allan Evrige is very talented and had a future here if he would have stayed. He knew that more than likely Dylan Meier will get an extra year of eligibility next season due to his shoulder injury and limited playing time last season...also Josh Freeman has lived up to all the hype and still has 4 years of eligibility...I'm sure that was not a settling thought for him either.
You know what's really funny laughing out loud. Dylan Meier has proved he has all the skills needed to win in the Big XII(when he's healthy) and Josh Freeman is 6-6, moves very well in the pocket, and has a rifle for an arm. That's hilarious huh?
Barring injuries to Dylan or Josh we will be fine...if either one of them do get injured we could be in trouble. Hasn't happened yet though.
No one wants to go from the starter to third string...that does speak very well about the talent of both of the remaining QB's.

From what I have been hearing - He was not very happy about going to 3rd string and not seeing much PT - It is a shame as he was very talented and had a hole lot of guts standing in the pocket. Hopefully the injury bug will not visit the WILDCATS!!!!

Yeah, but losing 3 scholarship QB's in the offseason including the guy that finished as the starter?
That's why I'm wondering what the problem is up there.
And which one of the remaining QB's are looking to take over the spot at this point?

The problem is that no one wants to be a bench warmer...especially when they were the starter and now are beaten out by a true freshman for the # 2 spot. It's called ego's and QB's have very big ones. The coaching staff and team are fine, there is no "problem" besides people not wanting to settle for anything less than being the starter.
P.S. Dylan Meier will be the starter unless he gets injured again.

log onto www.kstatefootball.com and read the forum...there are many talking about the current QB situation.
Also...they have transfered in a freshman named Carson Coffman who supposedly is very acurate on the film they have watched.

Here is alittle inside info on Carson Coffman from www.wildcatdaily.com
Also at practice, although not in uniform, was freshman Carson Coffman, who was officially added to the Wildcats' roster this week after Evridge's departure. Coffman is still rehabbing a shoulder injury and may not have full shoulder strength until mid-October, but could provide some depth at quarterback for the Wildcats late in the season.
"Carson Coffman is a player we recruited in the last recruiting class, anticipating that something like this may happen," said Prince. "He's a terrific player with a good resume, so we're anxious to get him in here and working."
Coffman, a freshman from Raymore-Peculiar (Mo.) High School, originally came to Kansas State as a gray shirt, which means he was paying his own way in the fall semester, but was expected to be put on scholarship in the spring.
However, after Evridge's transfer, Coffman got the call from Director of Football Operations Sean Snyder on Friday morning, informing Coffman that he was being put on scholarship.
Coffman shined at Ray-Pec during his final two years, throwing 42 touchdowns to only eight interceptions while leading his teams to back-to-back state championships.
"The thing I liked about (Carson) is that he was a very accurate quarterback," said Prince, who mentioned another accurate quarterback he once coached at Virginia — Matt Schaub, who now plays for the Atlanta Falcons. "I'm not ready to put Carson in (the NFL Hall of Fame) just yet, but he was that kind of player on tape and that really excited me."

So if you're the starter for the last five games, I would think you would stay and compete to keep your position unless you're just scared of losin it. Then transfer to an NAIA school, and one that's not all that good at that.
I guess maybe none of them belonged in DI football anyway then.
Good luck hope you guys get it straightened out...

Dylan Meier is a paper tiger. Expect Freeman to play. His performance may not always be pretty this year, but if he is going to lose his red shirt year due to a lack of quarterback depth it would be in the programs best interest that he see the field. Plus, why would Prince not choose to play such a highly touted recruit over an injury prone, time-out wasting guy from Pittsburg, Kansas? A little harsh, perhaps, but someone tell me I'm wrong.
Freeman is the best recruit that has come to Kansas State since . . . well . . . since . . . my point exactly.

Also Ryan. Michael Bishop & Ell Roberson weren't chopped liver and although Josh Freeman will more than likely live up to all the hype, he hasn't yet. Superstars in highschool sometimes crumble on the D-1 level. That being said I beleive Freeman is the real deal.

Dylan, master of the irrelevant three yard pass, will start the season, but expect his frail body to get hurt behind an inexperienced, somewhat out of shape O-line. It's going to be another hard year of football for the Wildcats in the Big XII. Ohhh well, at least they don't play in the South.
I imagine James Johnson will be getting the ball alot. Hopefully he, or anyone else won't get picked up for being drunk, violent dumb asses in Aggieville. I hope Wildcat fans stay patient with Prince as he build the program around Freeman.

The O-line can't be any worse than it was last year.
James Johnson will have to step it up being that he got off to a late start...if Parish Fisher can get healthy he has all the skills necessary, and along with Josh Freeman could represent a bright future.
This might sound crazy but I think the North is actually going to win the Big XII this year.
Texas - very young at QB
Oklahoma - QB issues as well(Bomar canned)South not looking so dominant
Nebraska - things finally coming full circle
Iowa St. - many returning startersNorth has something to prove to the "experts"

Josh Freeman has lived up to the hype? He hasnt even been in a season game yet! I wouldnt count on him to be a leader for KSU. The kid needs to grow a pair. Maybe while coach prince is in bed with his mom, Josh can text his professors and let them know he has decided on a different course of study.Husker Nation is waiting for you Freeman. tek

Read post 14 smart guy. More than likely he will, but he hasn't yet.
One thing is for sure tek45. Josh Freeman has more potential than any QB on your roster.
You and all the rest of the Husker nation should know plenty about how large Freemans "pair" are because you were all over it before he decided to transfer.
I guess he was only a top recruit when NU had him...once he decided to leave he all the sudden he became a sissy drama queen.
There's some NU logic for you.
Sorry your bitter tek45, NU will win the North one of these years.

ok ksuwild, I will admit you have a valid point on nebraska, and how long its been since the huskers have won the North. But the past is the past. I am not bitter over Freeman backing out on his verbal 1. zac taylor is the best quarterback to be in the system right now, after coming off a great season and knowing his team.
2. after taylor leaves sam keller is ten times the quarterback freeman is. and likely a first round draft pick.
I just dont like the kid because he slapped callahan and the rest of the huskers in the face. and had to do it with a text message.and dont even respond to me with a handle like Lawrence Phillips. Possibly the biggest waste of talent of all time. I'm a husker fan and I still almost vomit knowing I used to root for that guy.

Please tek45.
Even if sammy boy ends up working out for you he won't even be 1 time better than Freeman.
See you in MANHATTAN on OCT. 14

to C-DOGGS defense I dont know how many wins KSU will have but go to SI.com and look at their big12 predictions. In the North at the top is NEBRASKA and guess who last in the north is...............well I think ya know, you follow em. And I will be ready on Oct. 14. If you want to place a bet I will give you 14 points.

It's actually not just SI, most of the "experts" Big XII predictions have placed NU at the top of the North and KSU at the bottom.
Not buying it.
We will beat MU, Pinkel is done.
KU will test us but we will win in Lawrence.
CU will be a good game but we will win in Boulder. I
SU and NU should be great games and could go either way.ALL ARE WINNABLE.
I DON'T CARE WHAT THE "experts" SAY.
We were 7 points away from an 8-3 season last year. A bowl birth would have given us the chance to be 9-4.
2 pt. loss to Texas A&M
3 pt. loss to CU
2 pt. loss to NUGoing into the 02 season everyone put KSU in the gutter too because of the 6-6 2001 season.
What happened in 02?
K-State went 11-2 ending in a stunning win over a very good Arizona St. team in their bowl. Their only two losses coming by a total of 7 points that season as well.
I will take you up on that bet. Thanks for the 14 pts...I'll take them.
Is this a mans bet for pride...or do you want to put your money where your mouth is$?$

Yeah . . . ksu's offensive line is worse. So too is Dylan. Sorry. Expect Freeman to play in the following weeks - he can scamble, people. I imagine Prince will stay with Dylan for a week or two as to not make his ability to judge talent look foolish. Like I said, it's going to be a long year for the wildcats. I imagine that the anticipation of another poor football seasons was one of the factors the facilitated the hire of a talented but baggage-carrying Huggins.
Peace out

Is it too late for predictions? I say 2-10, with the 2nd (and last) win of the year coming against Florida Atlantic.
Ugly game. Ugly teams. Uglier stats (for KSU). And don't even try to argue K-state was taking them lightly, or it was just the first game, Freeman is better, etc. Your team just sucks.

OK barely getting by illinois state doesnt convince me that you can beat missouri at their house. Texas? loss Nebraska? loss mizzu? loss louisville? loss iowa state? loss. OSU might even be a loss for the cats. Face it KSU you will barely be eligible for a bowl game this year. The only big 12 teams that I hope are sure wins for you this year is baylor and colorado, which you said might be a good game? after a division IIA school rolls over them? I agree with Dave, the cats just suck. And yeah it would be for real money but I dont want any KSU clowns knowing my email or home address. You would just be throwing your money away anyhow. I predict Taylor wont even play the fourth quarter in manhattan.

Dear Corn fans,
Where to start...
So bitter about Freeman...the fact that you can't stop talking about him shows me how much you were ALL on his "sack" before he transferred. Again. Sorry he hurt your feelings.
tek45, you got one thing right, MU looks very good and will challenge for the North this year. Likewise on the bet, don't want to get paid in corn husks...so we'll just leave it as a mans bet.
Dave, where have you been all my life? I love NU fans who ride around in spaceships and can't find planet earth. You should try to find it, it's great down here. NU won't need anywhere near your "A" game huh. hahahahahahahahahahahahhahaha that's hilarious. How long has it been since you won in Manhattan...hum let me see...wait I got it. 10 YEARS AGO.
You can glorify NU all you want and dis KSU all you want as well...still doesn't change the facts.
Fact: NU hasn't won the North since 1999
Fact: NU hasn't won in Manhattan since 1996
Fact: KSU was one muffed punt away from beating to NU FOUR years in a row.(you watched it so you know)
Fact: In the previous 4 meetings of KSU & NU we have outscored you 157 to 70.
You guys are all right, NU has dominated.
Are you all riding in the same Spaceship or do you have your own? Is it shaped like a piece of corn or like a cowboy hat.
Can't wait until Oct. 14

Being a Jayhawk fan, i'm gonna stand up for my brothers in Manhattan. They are doing better than predicted. The Big 12 north is a jumbled mess this year (and please no comments on how NU will kill KU cause i dont care, its in Lincoln its bound to happen) Now on to K-state, the game in Lawrence is the most talked about game in the state of Kansas. Two evenly matched teams duking it out, im not gonna have a prediction but its gonna be a hell of a game. Nebraska, you go ahead and when Big 12 north, cause i wouldnt want Ku or KSU being a team thats gonna get embarassed by a team from Big 12 south on National TV. Cause right now, NU has not beaten OU in i dont know how many years, and Texas will likely smack the living crap out of you guys. I enjoyed watching the USC game though. It made my day knowing you guys lost.

You know KSU and NU might had been a close game, that was until the front seven heard freeman is getting the start. That guy will be on his back all game long. I know KU and NU didnt look great for the huskers but a W is all that counts , and right now our only loss is to the number 2 team in the country. I gave KSUwild 14 points and I'm gonna stick to it. By the way, all you KSU fans think us Nebraska fans cant let go of freeman, that we are sour about it, that the only reason we dont like him is cause he bitched us with a text message after a verbal. Its ok, we are over it, but we are not just gonna sit here and wish him the best of luck. We wanna smack the crap outta that guy. and its gonna give our team some fire on the 14th. Dear state of Kansas, all your Big 12 north hopes will be shut down soon so dont worry about that, and dont just say, hey Im happy we're not in the big12 game because we dont want to get embarassed by OU or Texas, Thats a lame excuse for MY TEAM SUCKS because your gonna play either Texas or OU EVERY year in that game. later

In rushing offense you are 80th.
In passing efficiency 113th.(There are 119 teams in 1A,,this is the category of near last or pathetic.)
In scoring offense 76th.
Its really hard to believe how bad you guys are.
In passing offense, rushing offense, pass efficiency, net punting you average 11th place in the big 12, Baylor has you losers beat in several categories.
What stat is it that has you so hyped?
I mean god knows why you would be angry, although come on you have never, ever been at the top of college football. Wait lets see national titles ?? no. Oh I know,,played for the title?? oh no.
And before you breakoff some butt plug fantasy from Lawrence Phillips about getting his non existant balls sucked. (The chance of you getting your balls sucked is better than a winning record in the north.)
If you don't like this, win your way out of it losers, compete for a national championship at some point in your history. Dominate a quality team and win, you have never shown you could do it in the past and nobody out side of Manhattan takes you serious. Win the North yah right,, Phisst,, win you next game, conjugate a verb, you know baby steps.

Congrats to the Huskers for out playing us in all phases of the game. The trick play in the first quarter on 4th down was a great call and really stole the thunder from us. You were also able to establish your running game which kept out D honest. I really wish our Offense could build some consistency but I guess with a young team it takes time. Our D is a force to be reckoned with though.
I hate to say it but you called it Teck45. NU was too much for us last night although I think you saw the kind of D we can play in the second half. Once we "figure things out" on offense things will be different. Kudos for playing well...you win the bet.
This next section is dedicated to "sorry to be a part of this blog"
Compete for a Championship like you did in 2001...great competition, awesome man, really? Our team in 98 was one triple overtime loss to A&M from "competing" for a National Championship smart guy. We would have given Tennessee all they could handle that year. It's funny how you talk about winning the North as if your team has done that at all lately. Let's get out of your fantasy world and remember that you haven't won a North Title since last Century, and until you beat MU you haven't won it this year either. Just to remind you "sorry blog guy" KState won the North in 1998,2000,2003.
