LSU says Russell won't play
QB JaMarcus Russell will not play for the LSU football team in this year's Peach Bowl matchup with Miami. Russell separated his shoulder (non-throwing arm) in the SEC Championship game against Georgia and has not been able to practice with the team this week.
"His arm is still in a sling," Fisher said after practice Wednesday. "He'll be OK for spring ball, but unless there is some kind of emergency situation, he won't play against Miami."
Tigers OC Jimbo Fisher said sophomore Matt Flynn will get the start, since he knows the playbook better than the other QBs on the roster. Walk-on James Welker will be Flynn's backup. Despite some suggestions to use freshman Ryan Perrilloux, Fisher says that taking his redshirt away is not an option.
