Miles answers Michigan question
In a press release from LSU, Tigers coach Les Miles appears to put the Michigan rumors to bed... for good... permanently....
"I had a conversation with Michigan last week that covered a wide range of topics. I was doing nothing more than helping them with their search for a football coach, just as any loyal alumnus might do. It was nothing more than that.
"I'm not a candidate for that job and I will not be a candidate for the job. I was only assisting them in their search for a coach. I have a great job at a wonderful place, a place that my family calls home. It's time that Michigan goes on with their search for a football coach. I'll say it again, I'm going to be the coach at LSU next season."

Obviously, someone is looking out for LSU out there. Perhaps it's the BCS fairy, who left a title game appearance under the Tigers' pillow after they bombed at home two weeks prior.
If LSU wins against Ohio State, they will be the first 2-loss national champion probably ever--if you don't count Alabama's national championship claim for 1941 when they finished 8-2 and ranked 20th in the AP poll...

Totally off subject, but humor me for a moment. What if pro football was handled like Div 1 college football? It is obvious who the best team is right now - the Pats. But what if they stumble down the stretch? They still will not be crowned Super Bowl Champions. That is what is so sad about the college football situation we have. The best team might not always win, but the team that wins the championship always does.
WEA, not up to speed on the 1941 team, but the voters didn't have any special love for the 1966 team.....

BT: True enough. Alabama got shafted by the polls in 1966, their 11-0 record not as good as Michigan State's and Notre Dame's 9-0-1 records (yes, they tied each other)
What's even stranger is that Alabama didn't claim 1966 as a NC year anyway, being that a small number of minor selectors did choose them. Some of Alabama's other claimed titles are of far less merit than one from 1966 would be--like the 1941 title.
Back to the BCS. I'm still old school that I believe if you lose late, you're SOL. That's been the PRECEDENT for 50 years! LSU should have lost their chance after Arkansas. Oklahoma is more deserving, if you want a 2-loss team in the title game, because they just knocked off the #1 team in the country while all LSU did was fend off a mid-level Tennessee team.
Don't get me wrong. I'm an SEC homer, but I'm just calling it like I see it. Sure, if we had any sort of playoff, I think LSU would have earned a shot to play for it, and they might have a good chance to win it. But all we have is one measly game. Choose wisely...

WEA
Losing late dosent seem to be as important to the BCS as who the biggest draw is.
Remember Oklahoma didnt even win the Big tweleve and still got in after getting smoked by Kansas state 2003 in the big tweleve championship game.It was obvious all year that the BCS wanted LSU, after all, what a draw with the Sugar Bowl hosting the game.
Its actually the worst part of college football imo to have to wait two months for a championship game between two teams that none can agree on.
BTW Borges is out looks like we may get Franklin ....(TROY) would be a great hire

Tigerman: Yes, you're right. It's far more important to have the pre-ordained teams in there than it is to have the deserving ones. USC is the missing piece of the puzzle this year.
And this losing-late-and-being-okay stuff is not without precedent, as you mentioned. Florida lost to FSU the last game of the regular season, but got the rematch in the NCG.
Looks like we get to keep Muschamp for now.

Cowbell: Minnesota was the NC in 1941. Six teams received votes from over 35 selectors. MSU was not one of them. Sorry. State was 8-1-1 and won the SEC championship, their only one.
Why am I having to tell you this?

The BCS took LSU for the draw?
Do you know how much money the bowl game itself took, hit-wise, just from the loss of hotel, flight, and overnight accommodations?
Gimme a break...On top of that, they lose 100,000 TV sets or so...
That argument makes no sense, whatsoever...

TEYou cant honestly believe that LSU deserved that bid.
There defense was ran thru like a hot knife thru butter against Arkansas.
They looked lack luster against Tennesse and Oklahoma beat the tar out of the #1 team in the country.Im an SEC fan but this one smells fishy.
Lets be fair about this if your looking for the teams playing the best ball now they are not one of them.
Having said that i do believe they have a good chance to win that game but imo OSU isnt #1 team.
As far as hotels goes are you nuts? Try and get a room in New Orleans for that night.

Bevo
Obviously Mizzo didnt deserve to be #1 cause they couldnt hold onto it either however the BCS thought they were and Ok tore them up.
LSU has bearly escaped loss several times this year and even lost twice, one was the last game of the regular season at home against an unranked opponent.
No way they should be there. Les miles has managed to take the most talented team in the country and make them average.
Not even sure he could have got the Michigan job.
This year more then ever screams for a playoff.
LSU is deserving of a chance to play but no more so then 4 or 5 other teams

TE,
Maybe I'm over zealous, but I don't like the idea of Les Miles flirting with other programs. I don't think the story is as cute as the media likes to think it. What if LSU has to match-up against Michigan one day? Is this going to be some love fest resembling something more of a pillow fight? Michigan doesn't need Miles help and Miles shouldn't be trying to help them IMO. If his focus is on the Tigers then let it be. Can I get an amen? I respect the man for his heart and and his sportsmanship, but now if his loyalties lie with the Tigers, he needs to start acting like it. I think now more than ever LSU could get pretty much any coach they wanted, but the longer we wait, of course the more complicated things could get. Do you think we should be wasting our time fighting over keeping Miles, or should we find someone who has no doubt he wants to help ONLY the Tigers? What do you think?

Agreed...
This LSU/Mile/Mich triangle is like tellin' your wife you're just holding an old girlfriend's hand in order to help her get back on her feet and find a new man...
"No really, honey. I'm always going to be your husband but my old flame just needs some help in her current man search. Trust me."
I don't know about ya'll, but my wife wouldn't allow me to stop at the couch...
I'd be on the street because she ain't that gullible...
Is LSU?

I don't know. I'm hearing we can't take this man on his word. I guess the actions of a number of coaches have tainted us a bit.
I have heard of coaches assisting other schools with coaching hires, without taking the job themselves. It's not that unheard of. I work in an industry where-by we discuss operating experience, problems and solutions, ways to cut costs, etc. And, each of us works for a competitor in the same market.
Bottom line, I guess we won't know whether or not Miles will stay at LSU, until MI has hired a HC.
GH, if that turns out to be Rodriguez, God Bless him!!!

We may have Tenuta, formerly the DC at Georgia Tech, by late this week, if not early the next.
I honestly think this stuff is going to end up truly elevating LSU for years to come...all this back and forth is putting our name out there, and elevating Miles' stature as a coach, bigtime...
Nothing but good things ahead for LSU, gentleman...
