Did LSU confuse Auburn with two punters?
One of the interesting side notes from this past weekend's Auburn / LSU game was the possible uniform trickery executed by LSU regarding its punters.
LSU punter Josh Jasper, who kicks right-footed, normally wears #30 for games. LSU punter Brady Dalfrey, who kicks left-footed, normally wears #38 for games. For some reason, however, both LSU punters wore #30 in the game against Auburn.
The NCAA allows multiple players to wear the same number, provided they do not appear on the field at the same time.
While both players had their names on the back of their jerseys, LSU head coach Les Miles apparently dressed both players in #30 in an attempt to confuse Auburn.
"I think, frankly, I kind of enjoyed the fact that I had a punter who was going to wear No. 30. I didn't want to get confused, so that I knew that the punter was on the field when he wore 30. That may be the reason. It may not be the reason. I enjoy the fact that one guy kicks right-footed and the other kicks left-footed, and they both wore the same number. It might well have been a cause for an opponent to pause and say, "Hmm, I wonder which one's kicking."
Will Miles pull this stunt again?
"[Dalfrey] may wear No. 38 this week."
So there you have it, Tiger fans. One more MILEStone for LSU.
