Bob Pruett retires
Marshall head coach Bob Pruett announced his retirement today. Pruett, who is about to turn 62, said he first thought of retiring prior to the 2004 season. He has been in coaching for 40 years.
Pruett's tenure as coach of the Herd, which began in 1996, included a 94-23 record, five MAC championships and five bowl wins. Marshall moved from I-AA to I-A in 1997 and remained a member of the MAC until after the 2004 season. The Herd will be in Conference USA for 2005.
Pruett coached several players at Marshall who went on to the NFL including Randy Moss, Chad Pennington and Byron Leftwich. He previously served as defensive coordinator at Florida.

I'm sorry to see Coach Pruett leave the game. He is a first class individual and a heck of a coach. I was a little disappoionted to see he waited so late to make his annoucement, but I'm sure there are extenuating circumstances we are unaware of.

You'd think he could've done it a few months ago and left them in a better position to search for a replacement.
