Terps announce new assistants

Maryland coach Ralph Friedgen announced the hiring of two new assistant coaches from the I-AA ranks last week. Bryan Bossard will replace James Franklin as receivers coach while Dan Hickson will replace John Donovan, who moved to running backs coach, as assistant recruiting coordinator. Defensive line coach Dave Sollazzo had previously taken on the duties of recruiting coordinator after Franklin's departure to become wide receivers coach for the Green Bay Packers.

Bossard, who has 15 years of full-time coaching experience, spent the past 3 seasons at Delaware (of the Atlantic 10.) His previous coaching jobs were at Wyoming, Army, West Chester, Morehouse and Bucknell. Bossard also coached one year of high school football in New Jersey as well as serving as a coaching intern for the Chicago Bears. He played for the Blue Hens from 1985-88 and was second team All-Yankee conference his senior season.

Hickson has been offensive line coach at Georgetown (Patriot League) for the past three seasons. He recruited MD, DC, CT, RI, TN and NC for the Hoyas. Hickson, who is a retired D.C. Metro Police lieutenant, also coached at Catholic University and Good Counsel H.S. in Maryland. His son Brian was a graduate assistant for the Terps.
