Mid-season QB: Think Miami wants a do-over on Erickson?

Who would have thought that ten weeks into the season we would see Arizona State in the top five of the BCS standings?

CBS Sportsline says a key source at the University of Miami certainly did - even with Dirk Koetter's talent.

"He's a guy who I thought could take inferior talent and beat you," that Miami source said of Erickson. "He was a guy who always made his talent better with his scheming."

And Erickson gets programs going in a hurry. Rebuilding? No time, baby.

In his second year at Washington State, Erickson got the Cougars their first bowl win since 1931. Miami won national titles in two of his first three seasons. In his first year at Oregon State, the Beavers achieved their first winning record in 29 years. Two years later they finished fourth in the country and trounced Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl.

...

ASU will be the fourth school he has led to a bowl game. Only Lou Holtz (five) has guided more teams in the top 20. There are 26 victories against ranked teams in a 13-year period.

And, while it may be a long-shot, Erickson has a chance to become the ONLY coach to lead two different teams to a National Championship in his first season on campus should the fiesty Sun Devils win it all this year.

So.... Does anybody think Miami wants a do-over on Dennis Erickson?

The five-and-two Hurricanes, who by most accounts had a chance to hire Erickson as a replacement for Larry Coker, now find themselves looking up at Virginia and Virginia Tech in their ACC division race.

Meanwhile, Arizona State (ARIZONA FREAKIN' STATE, MAN!) is winning in the desert with Dennis Erickson.

The knock on Erickson is that he can't sit still. He jumps from team to team. (This is his seventh college job and his third stint in the Pac10.)

But you can't knock him for winning - and that's where I have to ask... given the choice between Erickson and Randy Shannon... what the heck was Miami thinking?

Some folks just have wandering feet. Some like to stay put. Some others like a little change only now and then. Erickson is either looking for the right home, or he's of the 1st type of folk. What the heck, big guy, keep on winning.

I'd take Randy over Erickson any day of the week. Erickson may be a great strategist, but Shannon is the absolute best coach to fit Miami's current needs. The Canes don't have enough raw talent, and Coach Shannon can recruit like no other - seriously. Erickson already had his stint with Miami (no complaints here on the results on the field, but Erickson's lack of control is what really led to the "thug" image...plus he was a drunk).

Go Coach Shannon! Screw Erickson, screw Schiano, screw Butch! Just go out there and get some more recruits!!

It's great to be a Miami Hurricane!

Kevin, you need to stop listing the teams records in your stories if you can't get them right. Miami is five and three not five and two.

Also, nobody would prefer Erickson to Shannon. With Erickson you know you are only getting a coach that will stick around for a couple of years, and that is not what the Miami program needs now. They need someone dedicated to the University, and that is Shannon.

No, Shannon is more Miami through-and-through than anyone on this board.

I'm more than happy for him to have a chance at glory than to try to go back in time without Doc Brown's time machine.

Besides, ASU, as good as they are, haven't hit that hard of a schedule (yet), have they?

I'm pleased with Shannon. He will be the 2nd best Miami Coach behind Jimmy Johnson...when it's all said & done.

As far as Erickson..I told you guys to watch out for Arizona State...was I right??

    Go Canes....Get some recruits!
