The return of... Larry Coker?
Former Miami Hurricanes head coach Larry Coker - who was at one time the winningest active coach in college football history - may returning to the college football sidelines... at the University of Texas San Antonio.
WOAI-TV reported Tuesday night that Coker was interested in the job."I knew that I wanted to get back in coaching after I left Miami," Coker told the Express-News. "But it would have to be the right opportunity at a school with the right leadership. I see that at UTSA. I think it's a school with great potential. Another plus is that San Antonio is a great city."
Coker, 60, said he sent his resume to UTSA about 10 days ago and talked with athletic director Lynn Hickey by phone last week.
"That's as far as it's gotten," Coker said, adding that Hickey did not indicate whether or when Coker might be interviewed.
I've always thought that Coker - who won a National Championship and three Big East titles at Miami - got a raw deal. His .800 winning percentage is the best in college football history and his teams were ALWAYS in big games.
Coker's not a perfect coach - nobody is - but it would be great to see him back on the sidelines.
