Michigan to students: Sit Down!
2,000 Michigan students with tickets in the south endzone received e-mail Thursday night telling them that they would be required to remain seated for today's game with Notre Dame. The e-mail went on to say students who stood for long periods of time would be ejected from the game.
An argument over this subject breaks out on message boards almost every week at some schools. The debate is usually an inter-generational one between students (or younger fans) and older fans. Many student sections do stand the whole game but this situation seems unique in that 3 sections of students have been placed in front of 3 sections of season-ticket holders out of necessity.

This will conceivably be an issue all season in those section and you can plug in almost any other school's name and have a similar conversation that usually gets into a heated argument between the old-timers/big money donors and the students/young alums.

It is just like a concert; you pay to see it. If teh show is good and people stand, then you stand. If it is more of a sit down concert, then it is. You should not EXPECT to sit to watch a game, and you should not alienate future donors (and I know that Michigan is a diplome factory), but if the former UM students who strted Google got that e-mail, who would the university feel is they were shown message that 10-20 years later?

The Aggies of TX A&M stand the whole game. I think it's pretty stupid since the cost of getting a ticket to the games are so expensive. I'd like to enjoy the game from the "comfort" of my seat. Plus the lady that sat in front of me for years at the University of Texas games was handicapped and couldn't stand up. She missed most of the games in Austin when A&M came to play. Dumb Aggies!

There's a reason the Swamp has a reputation for bring loud and hard for visitors to play in. You simply can't be as boisterous sitting down.
Therefore, school officials have a choice: make the students sit and embrace the enthusiasm.
However, I agree with schmed that it doesn't take a genius to figure out to put the students behind everyone else.
And the students who want to sit? Too bad.

At Michigan Stadium, standing is probably more comfortable than sitting, anyway. there is a reason they squeeze 111,--- in there- they give you like 8 inches per ass. If you want comfort for the game, i'd stay at home or go to a bar. I wish the fans there were a little LESS "comfortable".

Hey Don,
None of the Gators' fans will be comfortable (sitting or standing) when the Vols come to visit on Sept. 17.
Vols' fans were happy to see Notre Dame (another Vols opponent in 2005) beat Michigan in the Big House on Sept. 10.
Go Vols!

Hey Cum ave, don't kid yourself. The only thing to make gators anywhere uncomfortable is that Pathetic song you people seem so proud of. How does it go again," Rocky Top you'll always be,

Hey NotaNole,
Rocky Top is a very reputable bluegrass tune. Numerous musicians have recorded versions of the song over the years.
Haven't you heard that the film O Brother, Where Art Thou? put bluegrass on the map?
By the way, Clemson's fight song, Tiger Rag, is a great jazz tune. You should hear Louis Armstrong and Kermit Ruffins play Tiger Rag.
We Southerners just like to have a little culture along with our football!

Hey NotaNole,
Here's a little more information for you to chew on regarding that so-called "pathetic song" Rocky Top.
The Osborne Brothers, who recorded the original version of Rocky Top, were 1994 inductees into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Honor.
The Osborne Brothers were innovators and the first bluegrass band to perform at a college campus when they played at Antioch College in 1960.
Buck Owens, Lynn Anderson and Dillard and Clark of the Byrds also have recorded their own versions of Rocky Top.
Rocky Top and other Classic Bluegrass is a CD you may want to buy in order to educate yourself about the music culture of the Appalachian and Smoky Mountains.

"TU Terry", you're a dumb-ass!!!. The loyal fans of TAMU have been standing ever since the 12th man. There is handicap seating at Kyle Field so I can only assume you were watching that particular game from the handicap area, where sitting fans views are not obstructed from the standing faithful. If you come to the game for comfort or even believe that stadium seats are comfortable then your are truly a moron. I can see as how the Aggie faithful standing would bother you so much, seeing as how well behaved your beloved shorthorn fans act at home and away games. Fans are fans and will act like fans. You don't have to like the Aggie tradition of standing for the entire game, but you might try to respect it. The Ags never knock the TU traditions such as.....well like....Oh that's right the Shorthorns of today don't honor the TU traditions of the past.
