LSU gives permission to interview Miles
One of the country's worst kept secrets just got a little less... secret.
Michigan has received permission from LSU to conduct a formal interview with Les Miles. The interview will take place sometime after this weekend's SEC Championship Game, perhaps as early as Sunday.
Miles is already scheduled to have his contract reviewed at the end of the season, by virtue of the 10-win clause in his current LSU deal, but the Tigers are said to be preparing a counter-offer to keep Miles from leaving Baton Rouge.
The Tigers new offer may include guaranteed salary increases with additional incentives, as well as new contracts for the assistant coaching staff.
Miles has a $1.25 million buyout in his current contract if he leaves LSU for Michigan.
Brian at MGoBlog says the two factions of the Michigan camp - the pro-Miles wing and the anti-Miles wing - are weighing in on the news, but that the mood at UM is leaning towards Miles being introduced as the new Wolverines coach sometime next week.

I said it back on here in 2005 and I'll say it again.
Someone is screwing up by not taking that Hawaii coach June Jones.
That joker knows what he is doing ... very Spurrier-eque style coach.
Total offense (National rankings.. he took over in 98)
2001 = #7
2002 = #2
2003 = #6
2004 = #17
2005 = #11
2006 = #1
2007 = #3Sweet Home Alabama said:

#2 why in Heaven's name would BR want Saban after the way they have talked about him and trashed him all season? He has been the object of hatred since the day that he came to Alabama.
Wouldn't it be rather hypocritical to now say that they want him? All that I have heard for months is how Miles is a much better coach and how the Tigers are so lucky to have him instead of Saban.
Sounds to me like the tiger fans are rather fickle.

SHA...have you ever met any LSU fans? They're almost as fair weather as Bama Fans. Yeah...LSU will boo Saban as they please. But if he does come back...and he wins like everyone expects of him, they'll let bygones be bygones. And this bengal belle never said Miles was a better coach!

don't tempt, the fans have input into the coaching situation. Ever heard of Houston Nutt?
BAMA fair weather fans? No we just like to win.
Have you ever met any BAMA fans?
Don't know why you people are even discussing Saban. You have zero chance of getting him back. Coaches don't usually leave for less money unless they are being pressured out.

Saban back to LSU? Frankly, I think 'Bama Fan would rejoice at having been alleviated of that $4mil/year screw-up, but I doubt they'll be so lucky.
Let's see, first it was Spurrier to LSU, now Saban going back...what the hell are they putting in the water up there in Baton Rouge? Hallucinogens? ...talk about your "kool aid"....
...next we'll surely hear about how Bill Belichick is going to resign from the Pats, in order to coach at LSU.
Miles is leaving, and LSU is going to get some up & comer who will probably enjoy about as much success as Miles, due to the talent base--but I don't see a big name guy going there. They didn't exactly go big name when Saban left 'em, and LSU isn't as desperate as 'Bama was when they hired Saban, or as Ol' Miss was when they hired Nutt. ...but please, keep 'em coming--I am enjoying the delusions!
...this just in: Ron Zook resigned from Illinois; going to LSU as their lead recruiter;
...Art Kehoe, having been left homeless at Ol' Miss, headed west to LA, to work as OL coach;
...Randy Shannon resigned from UM, and has been hired by LSU as co-DC--along with Mickey Andrews, who realizing he wasn't going to get HC at FSU, defected to LSU;
...Steve Spurrier, sick of recruiting, resigned from SC, and took a position as OC with LSU;
...and Bill Belicheck resigned from the Pats, to take up HC position at LSU...
...because, you know, everyone wants to live in Batt-ahwn ROOOGGHE, Louisiana...
Damn that kool-aid sho-nuff tastes num-num!
GO GATORS!!

SHA...let me put it like this. You ever heard of keep you friends close and your enemies closer. LSU fans know how good Saban is and what he will do at Bama given the time. I like Les Miles and would not complain if he stayed, but Saban is the better coach. LSU fans pulled for him at Miami, they didn’t start to dislike him until he signed with Bama. With all that being said, I would be shock if he came back to LSU. About LSU fans being fickle, yes we are but isn’t every fan of every sport. As a fan you love to win and hate to loose. If you are winning you are happy, if you are loosing you are mad and want to blame someone for the loss.

My entire family is comprised of Bama fans...trust me I know what we're dealing with.
As far as Saban coming back...We'll see in a few days. I'll Take Nick back in a heartbeat just to irritate Bama fans. And hope he can get us another crystal trophy.
And if he does leave for less money. we'll all know where he really wants to be!
OU Ron #3...We can certainly see Bama thinks the Saban will be their Savior. I'm not sure if LSU getting him back would be the smartest move. Who will trust him?! But we'll see what the powers-that-be do in the next few days.

Comparing winning to losing is not the same as being fickle.
Being fickle is cheering for Miles when you think that he is going to win the nc and quickly turning your back on him when he loses a game that knocks him out of contention.
Fickle is dogging Saban for a year and then starting to play "what if he came back".
T gator I haven't heard any BAMA fan say that they wished Saban was gone. It's people like you who are so upset by it.
Tuberville now makes almost 3 mil a year. Face it, coach's salaries continue to go up and you guys may not be able to compete.

#12 perhaps you can provide us with a link to a story that show that Saban is even remotely considering leaving.
You people and your wishful thinking are unbelievable.
No coach who packed 92,000 screaming fans in Bryant Denny for a spring game is under any pressure to leave.
A coach who would take a 2 million dollar a year cut in pay to live in BR is a complete idiot.

Everyone is correct all the talk of big name coaches coming to LSU is stupid. Saban, Spurrier, and any other coach that will want more than 2 mil. will not get hired. LSU will hire an up and coming coach just like what Saban and Miles were.

Who cares about Mich? If Les is gone, he's gone. What LSU is going to do next is a better topic. Since we're all speculating on who LSU could hire, I really wouldn't mind getting Saban back either, or Bill Belicheck for that matter. Seriously, what will LSU do? Where is TE? I need some swamp juice TE. I'm getting concerned here. What are the possibilities of us getting Jimbo Fisher? I think that would probably be the absolute best hire we can get.

All this lunacy about Saban/Spurrier reflects some of the most unimaginative sh+t-stirring I've ever seen.
There's a rumor floating around that Jack Del Rio would leave the JaxJags for LSU that makes more sense than *either* of those two.
So Miles goes to Michigan. BFD.
LSU has proven it will compensate an talented HFC and reward success. That will attract a talented successor if it means paying an hot up-and-comer $1.5M or a proven HC $2.5M+.LSU just needs to make sure that whoever they hire has an Ultimate Dream Job about to come open in about 3 years so they can play out this drama again.

Don't push Les off on us too quickly folks... There may be a darkhorse on the horizon...
And his name is Brian Kelly...
Believe it or not, we're not that enamored with Miles, no more than LSU fans are. We, as Michigan fans, are MORE enamored with just basically getting a new coach with a fresh perspective, and a playbook that won't have to get dusted off...
Les Miles doesn't do that(IMO)...
Yes, he's a "Michigan Man"... So what, I say. Who cares that he was a pupil of Bo Schembechler?? Lloyd Carr was too & you all see where that got us?? Light years behind the competition. As we stand today, we are the winningest program in the history of CF. We are ALSO the most underachieving program in the country, bar none...
So whether it's Les Miles, Kelly...hell I'd take Saban too (shout out to Bama fan...lol...). We just want our team to get back into title contention & actually LOOK like a college football team that plays new millenium football.

Les' had background checks being done on him for over a week now...and I kinda think that's cheap on the part of Michigan...We all know Mack Butler's been burning the phone lines up from Baton Rouge to Ann Arbor for weeks now...
So this "official" mea culpa is a tad on the hollow side, and a bit of a distraction...though I doubt much of one...
Miles is gone, which I figured...
I thank him for his time, and I look forward to a new coaching search...I always do. We have excellent leadership in place.
I will tell you, SHA, that I've heard what you think is so implausible could be very plausible...It seems Saban is not happy in his Tuscaloser Toiletbowl, and prefers the Baton Rouge fishbowl instead...
I find the rumor as laughable as you do, but I have heard info from multiple sources indicating that one of the most powerful members of our Board of Supervisors-and honestly one of the most powerful men in the state of Louisiana-wants him back, very badly. He's marshalled all the contacts and resources he has on the BOS to try to get him okayed back.
It will be a huge internal struggle, because Saban left a lot of scorched earth in the AD, and many people simply will no longer work for him after his treatment of them while he did his time in Baton Rouge...
But, make no mistake...There's smoke...as much smoke there as there was with the Miles to Michigan stuff I've been hearing...
Watch out...we could both be pretty disappointed here if things move quickly for Les.

I stated early on that Less Miles is crazy and it funny to watch people who thought he was the greatest thing to ever happen to college football, just a short month ago. Now they are trying to appear happy that he is probably going to leave.
Why would Saban possibly want to go back to the ole toxic waste dump?
His ego would not let him leave BAMA after a 6-5 season. He needs to prove that he can build a winner.

Alabama has been down and been through probation and hard times. No team stays down forever. Those who want to write the Crimson Tide off as a group that will never rise again need to get off the wacky weed.
This is like saying that based on this year's performance Notre Dame will NEVER have a good program again. To think that the Tide will stay down is so absurd that it really doesn't bear repeating anymore.
Did Florida roll over and die when Spurrier left, GA when Dooley retired, LSU when Saban left?
Hate on while we build our program.

Now, will you please get us those "total defense" rankings for each year. And, please list the competition that they played, while they were compiling those great defensive stats.
Tommie Trojan
So he takes a job at a real school and hires a decent defensive coordinator? It's pretty clear he is highly capable of coaching offense. You want to pigeon hole every other coach in Div 1 that has a special skill-set towards one side of the football? The question is, how many of these other coaches could go to Hawaii and be as succesful as he has been? Not too many.
