Dantonio hired as Spartans Head Coach

Cincinnati Head Coach Mark Dantonio has been hired as the new Head Coach at Michigan State.

Dantonio, a former MSU assistant coach under both Nick Saban and Bobby Williams, just completed his third season as the head coach at Cincinnati, leading the Bearcats to a 7-5 record this season. He is supposed to be in East Lansing for a noon press conference.

Dantonio was given a five-year rolling contract with a base salary of $600,000. The total yearly package is worth $1.1 million. He also received a $200,000 signing bonus. The salary places Dantonio in the bottom half of the Big Ten in terms of base salary, although there are incentives in place for him to increase his earnings. Simon called it a "performance-based" contract.

Dantonio replaces John L Smith, who was fired earlier this month.

This is a good hire for them. Wasn't he the defensive coordinator for Ohio State when they beat Miami? If so, any coordinator that could stop Miami from dropping 50 on them in a national title game deserves a shot at a big time school.

Well everyone loves to bash the Big East, but they certainly don't mind taking our coaches...

At least they didn't hire the "Girls Volleyball Coach" like they were thinking about doing.

Hey Mags, you need to read the article,Dantonio was a coach at Michigan State, before he coached in the little east, and for the little east fan's who claimed their conference was better than the Big Ten the bearcats's were smoked by Ohio State 37-7 yet they can Beat Rutgers,30-11 who beat Louisville, who beat West Virginia, even south Florida can beat West Virginia and South Florida lost to Kansas!

Welcome back to the great state of Michigan, but you won't be to popular after Michigan smokes you,and you travel to OSU and get smoked and after Iowa and Wisconsin smoke you and after Penn State smokes you =) Get the idea?

    M GO BLUE -

I don't think it's fair to say that Cinci was "smoked" by Ohio State. The score doesn't accurately reflect the game. Cinci held in there for a while and put up a decent fight to the #1 team in the country (and the favorite to win a National Championship).
And I'm not one of those people that like to bash other conferences, however it appears that you are as you take a cheap shot with your "little east" comment. It's ridiculous for the fans of the so called "great" conferences to bash others because they don't have a long legacy of winning. Well 100 years ago nobody had a long legacy of winning. Everyone has to start somewhere. Why don't you enjoy the excitement? If you have so much faith in your team than you should welcome the added competition.
I think all the BCS conferences have their good points and their bad. I think it's great to see the Big East getting better and making CF more fun to watch. The only people who want to watch the same 10 teams battle it out each year are the people who are fans of those said 10 teams.
And as for your argument that this one beat that one who beat the other but the other beat the third....The SEC uses the fact they that beat up on each other as an argument to prove their strength and depth....but when it comes to the Big East it means that they are weak?
I'm a Rutgers fan, because I'm an alumni. But bigger than that, I'm a college football fan. I watch the other games, I don't HATE every other team. I don't respect Michigan because they have a winning tradition, I respect Michigan this year because they are a good team. Watching a program build itself up is perhaps one of the most exciting events in sports. Since when are national championships decided on what a team did over the past twenty years?

The Bearcats named Def. Coord. Pat Narduzzi as interim coach for the bowl game.

Mags,I am not sold that the Big East is actually as good as the SEC,PAC TEN,BIG TEN,or BIG 12. Simply the Big East has not beat any impressive teams this year, see the Big Ten and Pac Ten played some highly ranked OOC teams and My team Michigan, did'nt play any div 2 games NONE,and next year we play Oregon, and Notre Dame, see we play a much harder schedule than any of the Big East teams!

Well that's why I said the Big East is getting better and not that they are the best. This years schedules were made years ago. When Rutgers was 1-11 and Louisville was in an entirely different conference. Not to mention that some of the Big East teams have been trying to schedule big names for years, but nobody accepted.
WVU currently has deals in place for future games with Auburn, Michigan State & FSU. Granted MSU & FSU weren't all that great this year, but they are established programs.
Rutgers also has future commitments with Notre Dame.
    LU has Georgia scheduled.

My point is although the Big East is not the best conference, they are a contender. You're giving me an argument for why Michigan is better, and I never said they weren't.

OK, Mr. Mo-Jo Blue, you asked for it. Now, I don’t normally stoop to going after an individual (People do tend to play down to the competition, after all.), but seeing how you fired the 1st shot, lets talk about Mighty MI in the so-called Mighty Big 10. Your primary argument has been schedule and who’s played who in the “little east” (That’s Big Easy or Big Least to you, by the way. Yeah, there’s more; I’ve heard them all.). Let’s look at MIs’ daunting schedule (7 home/5 away) starting with 4-8 Vanderbilt. There’s a tough one. MI moved up in the world against C MI, before impressing the heck out of me at S Bend. (I’ll give you that one.) WI was next; talk about over-rated; their schedule isn’t any stronger than WV’s. Need we discuss MN or MI St? MI didn’t look that good at PA St (good team, though). Going into the match against OSU, MI tuned up against IA, N Wstrn, BALL ST (Didn’t that game turn out lucky, though.), and IN. As for the “mighty MI *D*”, OSU put up more than 500 yards and 42 pts against it. MI had opportunities to cash in on 3 turnovers (OSU had none.), and OSU still wins the game. I’ll give your boys this much. They came out swinging at the opening bell and never quit until it was truly over.

Now, that I’ve taken a breath, does this mean the Big East is better than the Big 10? NO. It only means the Big 10 has 3 more teams in it than the Big East. If the Big East had a PA St, a WI, and an IL, it would look a lot like the Big 10. Till there’s a play-off, there’s no telling who’s really better.

Zac,I really think the Big East should be a BCS conf. Which they are,but I don't think there are any teams in the Big East that are even close to championship quality, and you can tell me all about their tough schedule's,but the 30-8 OOC record is garbage becouse almost every one of the Big East, teams played a div 2 game,Ohio State, and Michigan, did not play ANY DIV 2 teams, and you can slam vanderbilt, but they have just as much history as most of the Big East teams.
But please don't get the idea that I have something against the Big East,I don't,but it seems quite a few of the Big East fan's (not mags) think the Big East is as good as any other conf. But they are not. That does'nt mean they are not good, they are,but they are just not at the calibur of the other conferences.
And lastly,I wish Michigan, could play a Big East team in the Rosebowl, because we would win it,but LSU would actually give Michigan all they could handle and maybe more.

i know it won't happen but i wish a BE school would play a major big ten school. if you wanna talk about how much your school is better you need to talk about playing one of our teams then. if you watch the cincy Ohio St. game you would know that cincy was capable of winning till the second half and very much was in the game. second off i am sick of hearing the sec is so great. personally i don't think they're that great at all this year. they're beating up on each other yes but look at the losses. arkasas lost to USC and not by a little which could be arguable, they got stomped! furthermore florida has had more luck than anything. they were 1 field goal away from loosing to south carolina. and other close calls as well. i'm not saying the big east is the best however how can you honestly say any conference is the best. sure the big ten has more schools but the big east isn't watered down with as much cannon fodder teams. the worst teams in the BE are 4-8 this year big ten is illinois at 2-10. ACC are duke 0-12, and 2 at 3-9. pseronally i think people just portray if a conference is bigger its better. which i think is horse sh#t. and so what if a team playes a AA school WVU had to because of cancellations at the last second which forced them to just pick up a school for the slot. if people wanna bash the big east then play them till they you can't say anything. WVU and Louisville have tried multiple times to play teams in the mighty SEC. at least 10 teams turned down Louisville and the only two who said yes to WVU was Auburn and Miss St. Kudo's to you guys for actually stepping up to the plate. To everyone else, schedule a game or quit trying to say how good you are based on a 20 year record which has no place in anything but a history class.
