BYU gets Las Vegas Bowl; Utah headed to Emerald Bowl
BYU will accept an invitation to represent the Mountain West in the Las Vegas Bowl. While an opponent is not yet set for the Cougars, a press conference to announce the invitation is scheduled for later this morning at BYU.
BYU is expected to play the No. 5 team in the Pac-10, but that league may not qualify enough teams. If No. 8 Oregon at 10-1 makes a BCS bowl, that will move up other Pac-10 schools, and Arizona State, which is favored over Arizona this weekend, would likely go to the Insight Bowl. The Pac-10 would then send other bowl-eligible members to the Sun Bowl and Holiday Bowl, with No. 1 USC and Oregon in BCS slots.
The Las Vegas Bowl could then pit the Cougars against an at-large team from another conference, possibly the WAC, Mid-American Conference or ACC, which has nine members qualified and only six bowl slots guaranteed.
Utah, which beat BYU this past weekend, will accept an invitation to the Emerald Bowl later today and will likely face an ACC opponent, since it looks doubtful that the Pac-10 will have a qualifier for the game. The Emerald owl will be played at SBC Park on Dec. 29.

Cal got leap-frogged last year and Oregon, with only one loss to #1 USC is behind a two-loss Ohio State team in BCS rankings. As a cougar fan I'm excited for the matchup, but I'm getting tired of watching the west get snubbed because the number of TV's is less than the east coast.
