Navy accepts Poinsettia Bowl invite

For the fifth straight year, the Navy Midshipmen are going bowling.

Navy will play a to-be-determined Mountain West Conference opponent on ESPN in the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl on Dec. 20 at 6pm (Pacific) at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego.

"I'm excited the team has achieved one of its goals, to have a chance to go to a bowl game, and I'm excited to be going to San Diego," Johnson said. "We still have two very important games remaining against Northern Illinois and Army, so we are going to put the bowl game on the back burner until the regular season is over. There's no question where our focus needs to be and will be."

Navy also has a chance to win a record fifth-straight Commander in Chief's Trophy in this year's Army game.

Bowl bids are out already? Isn't this akin to retail stores putting up Christmas decorations during Halloween?

That is great. Since Navy beat ND (which I am so so happy) they won their version of the National title. Congrads to Navy.

Yes I also would like to congratulate Navy on the ND win, although you know its not AS sweet as it would usually be due to the season ND is having. Congrats!

Cowbell: When you've had a 43 year drought, any win is sweet!

How does a team win at Pitt and at ND, then loose at home to Delaware? Then, there was the big win over N TX by 6 buckets. I mean, what's up with that? Did they just decide on a whim to move the game indoors and play round-ball, or did each team agree to send their defenses home?

Well, despite my sniping, I've always been a Navy fan, except for when they play a Big East team. They'll likely be 8-4 by the time they get to pick Poinsettias. So, congrats!!! Win or loose, I hope they have a great time.
