Independence Bowl Shocker: Nobody Cares Very Much
Mainstay mutual fund group has ditched the Shreveport Independence Bowl, making it the only bowl without a corporate sponsor this year. Jeez, you'd think companies would be fighting tooth and nail to sponsor a game between two sub-mediocre, barely bowl eligible teams in such a desirable holiday vacation mecca. [via WAFB.com]

The stadium is apparently nicer than it used to be. The worst bowl experience I ever had was going to Shreveport in '86 for the Minnesota-Clemson game (Gutekunst coached the Gophers because Holtz left for Notre Dame after the regular season.)
I-20 in Mississippi at the time was the worst road I'd ever ridden on and we drove all the way from SC to Meridian, MS without heat in the car when it went out.
The only good thing about that trip was the stop at Vicksburg on the way home (Minnesota won the game.)
