Emerald Bowl invites Navy
Navy's athletic director had dinner with representatives of the Motor City Bowl, Houston Bowl, Champs Sports Bowl, Liberty Bowl and Emerald Bowl after the team's 54-21 home hin over Rutgers. The morning after, the Emerald Bowl came calling.
Emerald Bowl Executive Director Gary Cavalli extended an official invitation to Navy (along with a $750,000 payout) on Sunday. While they haven't accepted just yet, the Emerald Bowl looks to be the only bowl courting Navy that actually has an open slot to offer, since the Pac10 is not going to be able to fulfill it's bowl allotment and the Liberty looks to be taking Boise State.
Navy (8-2) will hold a press conference on Monday at 3 p.m. The Midshipmen would face a Mountain West opponent, likely New Mexico (7-4) or Wyoming (6-5), in the Dec. 30 game at SBC Park in San Francisco.
