Why am I not surprised that five of the top ten are SEC schools?

If Tennessee is second on the list with over $46 million, why did they have to borrow money from the school just to pay their bills last year?
Sounds like piss-poor, liberal democrat managment to me !!!

Not only did UT have to barrow money, they just raised student tuition 17%. Oh, I forgot they are paying 3 mens basketball coachs. Two old ones and the new one. You would think would have learned from the first mistake.

Bama is number 6? I figured since they've sucked for a while that the intrest would've died down, but the Bear's coming back one day and he's going to bring them back to the promise land. Seriously, I wonder if they would've frozen the Bear's head like Ted Williams if that would've been available to them in 1983? I wouldn't put it passed those delusional rednecks.

No surprise how successful the SEC is in generating revenue, considering the conference has dominated college football the last 10 years. Also think of the fan loyalty these 10 schools create, loyalty=merchandise=money=wins. How many TRUE Miami or USC fans do you ever encounter, in fact how many actually attended college?

I agree with hatesMichigan, what's up with the spelling in here? The cryogenic Bear Bryant head was the funniest thing I've read in awhile! With respect to Coach Bryant, even from a UT fan. Even though the SEC has been shady for awhile we still have the most loyal and giving fans. At the UT vs Miami game in Kville a family donated 5 million if I remember correctly, and they were rewarded with a trip on the field at halftime, so what the hell does it take to have a building named after you?

I'm just curious how this is calculated? For example, Michigan is listed as having about 38 million in revenue from football. This despite having an attendance of over 660,000 on the season at roughly $50 per ticket. That's ballpark $33 million just in ticket prices. Your telling me that the $3.00 hot dogs and $4.50 Pepsi's and $6.00 pizzas didn't bring in more than 5 million last year? I find that very hard to believe. Add in conference revenue sharing as well (or do you credit Michigan with the full BCS payout for the Rose Bowl?).

Anyways, it seems like a gross underestimation. I'm curious about the numbers for the other schools as well.

  17. Fanblogs Author Kevin Donahue said:

The numbers aren't just pulled out of a hat, Robert. The above reflect what Michigan reported in the federal government. I don't think your ticket estimates are correct, as I don't think Michigan makes full ticket price on every seat for every game (think band seats, recruit seats, university owned seating, team comp tickets, etc). Next, I don't know the exact arrangement, but the Michigan athletic department may not be pocketing every penny you fork over for a hot dog, either.

Regardless, these are the numbers that Michigan reported. Knowing that they're subject to state & federal audits, I doubt they're far off.

And nobody in their right mind gives a flying f**k about hockey period, and the Titans, well they have gone to a Super Bowl, the Lions, welllllll, I think not. You do have the Pistons who stupidly let Larry Brown leave, there goes the Dynasty. But looking at the bright side, you will have snow this winter, and a diseased deer population you can root for!!!

VolLimp, you just dont care about hockey cuz the preds dont have 10 cups under their belts, and as far as the UT and UM game, was that for a the national championship? all bowl games suck and dont matter unless you win the national championship. Larry Brown wanted to retire else where, Duh! Hmmm lets see, atleast Detroit didnt wait over 50 years to approve a football team, and your wrong about the lions before there was a superbowl they won the championship. you only call it the crack house because you know our fans are more loyal, look how many teams are spread out across michigan, and we still sell out in auburn hills, versus tn. ha I laugh in your face, Michigan has been way more productive in every aspect of sports than tn. oh wait they have the sounds, and kats, we still have you beat there the detroit drive won 2 titles how many for the kats? tn sport fans are the biggest cry babies in the country and your the prime example. And by the way how many titans have been arrested in the last year or so for beating their wives, and drunk driving?
you keep on cryin and u just dig yourself a deeper hole, and I dont want you to shut your hole, cuz then I wont be able to bury ya, but lets keep these here tobacca fields goin and frog ponds ribbeting, the cow tippin, whew soo much do to here in tn, but atleast we have the vols and ol smokey and crystal meth tn to live for.

If any college football team doesnt make it to the national championship, you gotta agree with me here, their season is over. You dont end the season thinking "well atleast we have a bowl game to play for" its still 2nd place, thats all im sayin

For a lot of teams, that's a very good point. There is a second-tier of teams that don't have a shot at the BCS at all (not because of conferences, but just because of talent level, etc). For those schools, winning a bowl game is a really good goal.

Sounds like Michigan Title doesn't have a life... He is the one who has to cry and prove a point about his state... and if one of his teams doesn't win, he forgets about them because he has another one to go chear for... Sports are for a good time... it's great to win... it's also great to just cheer for your team, have a great time, and maybe lose...and I have been to Michigan and there are more rednecks there than any other state I have ever been to...Hush up Michigan ranter...ps Southerners could care less about overpaid pro sports anyway and we have more respect for a good time than who kicked who's ass...Until you come to Neyland Stadium and see how welcomed any other fan is...Hush up Michigan ranter

Sports Fan you are soo right. Michigan hosts the largest population of band waggoners in the country, however 2 of my best friends are from Michigan, and are die hard fans, they both accompanied me to KVille, they didn't change their allegiance (surprisingly) but they were hugely impressed with the festivities, because it's much more than a game, or even National Championships around here. Those would be nice but at the most 2 teams can claim that every year.I plan to accompany them to a Wolverine game in the future simply because I love the game and the Big House is without a doubt one of the top 3 places I want to see a game. I rest assured that Michigan Title is in the 1% of Northern White Trash, the equivalent of our Southern Rednecks, and in no way represents the true maize and blue fan. And speaking of loyalty, every Lions fan I know switched to the Packers during their heyday, and if the Lions ever win again, they will be back. I could care less about the Predators, unless they swap the puck for a football, if I want to view the thug life I can go to Printers Alley and watch for free. I only hear one guy cryin' in here, and it's not me brother. Why don't you compare Michigan to Tennessee in High school and Jr. High sports as well! We also play a mean game of freeze tag here, but you're better at that too of course, being so much cooler up north. What a Homer, you should move to Florida, then you would have 3 top college programs to rotate until you find the National Champ to root for.

To Michigan titles....last time I checked Tennessee layed it on Michigan in the last bowl game they met in. Don't be mad just because the Big Ten is so over rated. Michigan is a joke, Ohio State is a joke, and don't get me started on Iowa. The only more over rated team in the country is Texas. I would like to see Michigan beat Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, Auburn, or LSU. Not to mention do it all in one season. Then come talk to me about having a good team. The SEC brings more money in because they have the best traditions and the best teams. And year in and year out are playing for either the natioinal championship or in the BCS's top bowls. All Michigan has is there big stadium. And they just built on the make it bigger than Neyland so they would have some kind of claim to fame. Because you sure aren't pumping out any talent. Last guy Michigan sent to the pro's was Chartles Woodson, he is sure doing a lot. Ever since he won the Heisman Trophy, it hasn't been credible since! He beat out Peyton Manning, well we see what he is doing.... I could go on forever about how Michigan sucks. But I will retire and let you comment on that one for a while.

    Hey Michigan Sucks,

You accuse the SEC people of not being able to spell words correctly, yet you commit a grammatical error in your sentence:

"Judging by the spelling, 6 out of the top 10 posts are from the SEC as well."

    That's a dangling participle.

Who is judging? The answer is I. Your sentence should read:

Judging by the spelling, I surmise that six of the top ten posts are from the SEC as well.

Six of the top ten are not the ones passing judgment here.

We all know that Michigan has a good academic standing as one of the top universities in the world. The SEC has some very good academic schools, too. Vandy, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Auburn and Alabama are probably at the top of academic rankings for SEC schools. Two of the universities on the top 10 list in sports revenues are ranked among the top 50 universities in the world: Texas and Michigan. Good academics and good athletics do not have to be mutually exclusive.

    Hey Michigan Titles,

How many players on the Detroit Pistons most recent NBA championship team are Southerners or played their high school and/or college ball at Southern universities?

Northerners are always bragging about their pro sports teams, yet many of the best athletes on those championship teams are from the South.

As for collegiate sports revenues, I think it speaks well of the state of Tennessee and the University of Tennessee that the Vols' athletic departments can generate the second highest revenue in face of a relatively small population base in the state of Tennessee. UT's business school is ranked in the Top 10 nationally for good reason.

Michigan Titles realized how much of a Homer he is and hasn't replied in quite a few weeks. He wouldn't and couldn't understand how "Great it is to be a Tennessee Vol!" Some people have no clue what it takes to be a fan of the game, their team is flawless, and everybody else sucks. It's sad actually, as I watched us squeak by UAB, and saw the UAB fans next to us sit dejected after they put up a damn good fight, I realized I had just watched a hell of a good game. Sure, 42-0 UT was what I wanted to see, but a good close game is more energizing sometimes. Those UAB fans won't switch their allegiance no matter what their record is, unlike Michigan Titles, who bandwagons with whoever is winning in Michigan at the moment...GO CHIPPEWAS !!!!!

No hard feelings bro, they will probably get us too the way they are playing, and I did root for your guys against them, never thought it would have gone down like that, but losing Hart early didn't help, and Henne is still young. Looked to me like the UM receivers struggled, part of our problem at UT as well. Never would have guessed you from Spring Hill though, that's cool, I'm a transplant as well, from ST.Louis.

When talking about college football, i think you should distinguish between schools where the kids have to know how to read and those where nobody cares. You know which group the SEC schools fall into.
