Instant Replay rundown for the 2005 season
Confused about all the changes in instant replay? Who has it? Who doesn't? How is it different from 2004? Don't worry, you're not alone.
With football starting in just mere days, it's time to refresh the memory on the litany of offseason changes on how all the major Division I-A conferences will handle Instant Replay this season.
Big Ten The replay experiment that began here last season met with generally favorable reviews. Most conferences joining in the experiment will base their system on the Big Ten model. Only a technical adviser in the press box can review a play. The on-field officials and coaches cannot ask for a replay. The technical adviser can signal the officials to stop action for a review until the ball is snapped for the next play. The video used to review plays comes directly from the network broadcasting the game. In untelevised intraconference games, the Big Ten arranges for comparable video coverage. The call on the field can be changed only if the technical adviser determines there is indisputable video evidence. Replay is used in nonconference home games if the visiting team approves.ACC
Same as Big Ten.Big East
Same as Big Ten.Big 12
Similar to Big Ten with these differences:
• There will be three crewmembers in the booth in the press box: the replay official, the alternate game official and a technician.
• The replay official has sole discretion to initiate a review. The alternate game official may assist the replay official during the review.
• The referee will be involved in the process through audio communication with the replay official and video equipment on the sideline, but the replay official will make the final determination of whether a change is warranted.Conference USA
Differences with Big Ten model:
• The technical adviser will call for a review, but the on-field officials will watch the replay.
• The referee will make the ultimate decision if a change is needed.Mid-American
Same as Big Ten.Mountain West
The MWC is the only conference that will experiment with a coach's challenge.
• The replay official can initiate a review on any play, and each coach can request one review per half.
• If the challenge is upheld, the coach retains his challenge and may use it again in the half. If the play is not reversed, the challenging team is charged a timeout.
• The replay official makes the final call on a reviewed play.Pacific-10
Same as Big Ten.Southeastern
Same as the Big Ten, except:
• A nine-panel replay screen similar to the NFL will be used. The league will pay for TV cameras at games not televised.Independents
Notre Dame will use the Big Ten's replay model (as long as visiting schools agree) as will Temple. Army and Navy will not use replay this season.Sun Belt
No instant replay.WAC
No instant replay.

BOWLS WOULD HAVE BEEN DIFFERENT!
It was a cold wet nasty night. The moutaineers were playing Pitt for what would turn out to be a BCS bid. Late in the fourth Pitt was driving down the field down by two, when they came up on a third and long. What happened next would bring me out of my seat and into a rage. As Tyler Palko dropped back he had his reciever opened. Tylers pass was behind the receiver and he made a great attempt to catch the lame duck. I saw it everybody did the ball hits the groud the reciever falls on it. We stopped them, now get the ball back and run the clock out. As we start to celebrate with my family we hear it. COMPLETE!!! What it clearly hit the ground the commentators agree. Pitt kicks field goal and goes to TEMPE. Thank god replay is now here, for what alot of people does not know with that call WVU lost it's outright Big East title. So I am here to say thank you NCAA for Replay.Blake said:

Yeah, I celebrated a National Championship victory for almost a full minute before a referee not even on the play called pass interference in the last Rose Bowl game! Miami would have gone over FSU in 2000 had there been instant replay. Should have gone anyway because Miami beat them head to head. Miami in Hawaii. Referee claims Santana Moss touches ball on punt return to give Hawaii ball deep in Miami territory. Bowden campaigned and went to the show over the Cane's? Bullshit! Bullshit! Bullshit! Miami should be working on their 8th National Title if they weren't constantly screwed.
