Recruiting 2005: Who made the grade?
Fanblogs has been ripped a few times over the past few years for not following the recruiting drama in more detail. Just because there is a commitment, doesn't mean a player is going to make it on the field. With pulled scholarship offers, withdrawn commitments, and kids failing to make the grade, it's much easier to wait & see how it all shakes out. As I've said more than once, it's not who you recruit that makes headlines, it's who can play that makes a difference.
In that same vein, Rivals.com has updated their 2005 Recruiting Rankings now that we know which athletes enrolled and who didn't make the grade & won't be with their teams (previous 2005 rankings in parenthesis):
1) Oklahoma (#3)
2) Tennessee (#4)
3) Nebraska (#5)
4) Southern Cal (#1)
5) Florida State (#2)
6) Michigan (#6)
7) Miami (#7)
8) Cal (#9)
9) Iowa (#11)
10) Texas A&M (#8)
11 - tie) Auburn (#13)
11 - tie) Ohio State(#12)
13) Arizona (#21)
14) Florida (#15)
15) Virginia (#19)
16) Clemson (#17)
17) South Carolina (#23)
18) Alabama (#18)
19) Georgia (#10)
20) Texas (#20)

Blake,
I guess Rivals.com is a Bobby Bowden ass licker then. Try comprehending what you're attempting to read and you'll see it was their ranking, not Kevin's. Then again, if you did that you'd see the ripping Kevin was referring to was about not covering recruiting enough in the past and had nothing to do with who panned out.

Finally a response from Kevin! Kevin did you rank FSU higher than Miami? You base it on a running game that was non-existant last year against Miami? Now Booker and Washington will be running behind a inexperienced O-line, but they'll fair better this year? Both teams must use new Quarterbacks, but Miami knew they would be using Wright this year and Wright was #1 pick in the nation out of high-school. What exactly are you baseing your facts on? If your biased articles with no factual evidence pisses me off and makes me a knee-jerk fan than so be it!

What factual evidence can you show me that proves Kyle Wright is going to be a better quarterback than Weatherford/Lee?
I'll agree that Miami's defense is loaded with nine starters returning (thats a hand, plus four more fingers), but I'm not sold on their offense. They sucked it up when they had the ball with a senior starter in Brock Berlin and a better back in Frank Gore. I don't see the Canes lighting up the scoreboard against a scary deep and lightning fast FSU defense with better linebackers than anyone in the country this side of the Baltimore Ravens.Blake said:

Miami's Defense is loaded with eleven starters "That's two hands and a middle finger" of which may not start because of the young talent that had to play last year with all the injuries "You know right around the time our freshman couldn't hang against seniors and started to loose". What about FSU's secondary? Two true freshman with zero experience "I don't care how talented they are, they're gonna be out of place occassionally". The linebackers better be as good as stated because the D-line will be brand new "Besides Bunkley who had 1 tackle last year against Miami" and Miami's O-line should be much better than last year. Besides if your LB's are making the tackles that means Moss or Thomas are in your backfield anyway. Let's flip the coin! Again, FSU will be working with a new O-line "That's not gonna know what hit'em" and a Quarterback that will be pressured like he's never seen. I think it's fair to say Miami will feild a much more balanced Defense than FSU? How do you duplicate that in practice if you don't have it? Bottom line, K.Wright will have more time in the pocket with a better knowledge of his programs playbook than either Lee or Weatherford and was a much better recruit out of high-school!

That's all you got Kevin! I'm a knee-jerk fan? No I'm not, you are! Sorry if I actually analyze both FSU and Miami "because it's the biggest game of the year" and get my facts straight rather than repeat what I hear Trev Albert and a bunch of guys who hate Miami have to say! Give me some facts Kevin! Don't get me wrong, Miami could have a terrible day at Doak. But statistically speaking their outmatched!

How great is it going to be when FSU beats Miami.
I feel sorry for blake b/c all he will have to talk about is how espn - refs - kevin - me - CBS-
and more than likely a couple more variables cost Miami the game. Blake get a life your not a college football fan, your whats bad for the sports, so do all of us a favor speak your opinions not your stupitidy.Blake said:

And Jeremy you go on thinking Coker can't recruit like Butch Davis and believing there's going to be a huge problem at Tailback! When Miami rushes for more yrds than the greatest one-two punch combo in the country, what will you be saying then. Sorry you don't like me, but the truth hurts. How come when ever Miami fans have something to say FSU fans get so defensive? Oh yeah, we own you! That's what bragging rights are all about!

Damn, that really hurts Jeremy! If you're not an FSU fan than why would you pick FSU and VT to be ahead of Miami at the end of the year? And based on what? Oh you're just like the rest! Facts none! Hopes and prayers all!

Blake
I am a college football fan, not just one team. I see what I see and I make my predictions. You act like I am voting in the harris poll or something. learn to let people voice their opinions. VT and FSU, I think they will be the top two, but I am not god, I can't make it happen. Learn to enjoy the game instead of fighting about it. Also look at every team in the nation you will love the sport more than ever.good luck

Jeremy and Kevin, I like what you guys have to say, and I can appreciate Blake's loyalty to "his" team, Miami. I believe Miami does recruit better than most teams in the country (if not the best) year in and year out. They also develop their players better than most programs as is evident with the NFL draft. FSU recruits just as well. The two teams aren't that different at all. Year to year they tend to have different weaknesses, but alot of similarities. Records and rankings never seem to matter much when these two teams meet up and the game is usually one of the best games of the year. I believe this is due mostly in part to their similarities. Although both sides would probably hate to admit it, FSU and Miami or more alike than any other two teams in college football. Neither of the teams is my favorite, but I do enjoy their rivalry as a fan and try never to miss a game between them. As far as vying for the National Championship though, I don't feel that either team will be in that game.

By the way, I am a big Texas A&M fan ( win or lose). I don't agree with rivals rankings as far as where they picked the Aggies this year, unless of course that many other teams did that poorly. We have a true athlete at QB, but he's gone after this year. I thought for sure that coach fran would have tried to recruit at that position for the future of the program, but it doesn't appear to be a priority for him. I think we'll be much better this year than last, but I don't feel that our recruiting class was better than any of the other top 15 teams ranked by rivals.

Kevin you are such a loser! These aren't your rankings? Everything you write about says FSU and VT will be ranked higher than Miami at the end of the season. I beg to differ! Get some balls about yourself and own up! You try to make it sound like I'm misinformed and I'm not that guy! Pull that crap with your O.G., or Jeremy C. :)

You write an article about being ripped in the past for not taking into account players who didn't pan out just yet and FSU had five or four players committed to FSU that have had to go elsewhere due to grades or lack thereof. Shouldn't that lessen FSU's recruiting class. Of course not! Bobby Bowden ass licker! I've read your articles over the past and you always rank FSU higher than Miami based on what??? Track record??? In the past 48 games Miami has won 28 to 20 and five of those victories were when Miami was on probation. I bet Miami would have won at least 3 of those. Not such a great track record huh???
