Playboy's Top Party Schools 2006

The fine folks at SIonCampus have managed to sneak behind the gates at the Playboy Mansion and pull in the early edition of the 2006 Playboy's Top Party Schools. Some highlights:

1. Arizona State -- There is not a hotter school in terms of its climate and student body than ASU's. I should know, I went there as a wide-eyed freshman and spent a year doing stuff I only thought they did in movies. You mean they really have bubble bath parties and throw couches off rooftops? Even student "leaders" know how to have a good time. Three years ago the executive vice president of the Associated Students of ASU, Brian Buck, got in some hot water after appearing in a porno that was filmed at several ASU fraternities, including Buck's Sigma Nu.

Beyond raising the next Vivid Video star -- Jenna Jameson actually lives close to campus and has been spotted at the popular Dos Gringos Trailer Park bar, sipping on Coronas alongside drooling students -- ASU is also known for having the most laid-back students. Most of them walk to campus without a backpack, wearing flop-flops and cargo shorts with their collared up Lacoste shirt still wrinkled from the night before. But don't mistake their apathy for stupidity, most of these Barbie and Ken look-alikes have mastered the art of taking and even passing a test while hung over.

2. Wisconsin, Madison
3. San Diego State
4. Florida State
5. Santa Barbara
6. Georgia
7. Tennessee
8. Indiana
9. Ohio University
10. McGill

I go to ASU and I definitely wouldn't describe ASU students as "laid back". If anything they are uptight and self-centered. The kids going to class without backpacks are the burnouts who don't stay more than a year or two. And frankly, its not that much different in terms of partying than any other school. Party school rankings in general = dumb. Do we have tons of hot girls? Yes. Do we party differently than at any other public college? No.

Uuummmm... ASU, it a pretty cool school. It has a great campus, (half of Tempe)and Mill ave. seems to never sleep. Everyone seems to come out at night when it's cooler and party until the AMs. Went I went there I found the students friendly..& girls..wow. They had more material on their backpacks than what they were wearing. While I am sure there are other cool party campuses like Univ of Wisconsin in Mad City, Florida, UC Santa Barbara, and UCSD, I'd think ASU is right up there..it gets my vote.

Does having scantily clad girls make it a good party school? If so, where is U of A on that list? No doubt ASU is solid when it comes to partying, but really, most big schools are about the same. Alcohol flows freely at just about any campus in the nation, and there are better college towns than Tempe (see Athens GA, Austin, Chapel Hill, Madison...).

Incorrect spelling puts into question the validity of any post. If the author can't spell, he may not be smart enough to tell a good party from a sausage-fest.

Maybe the error in spelling is due to the amount of partying in college. It down't get better than Summertime in Tallahassee though. Go Noles!

Oh, how I long for the old days of the internet when spelling flames were considered the last resort of the clueless. Keith, your point about spelling is well-taken in any remotely professional context, but this is a FUN site. Who cares? Yeah, it looks stupid, but the whole discussion is stupid. Yet, here we are...

Having said that, while Trey's "burning couches" point has some merit (WTF is it with that anyway?), his Busch Light point makes no sense at all. I have studied at 3 different colleges (including VT 1981-87) and taught at several others; it is no different anywhere else. Many college students will drink anything cheap and alcoholic as long as they can until reverse peristalsis kicks in. Most Sunday mornings it is common to see "the remains of the Beast" splattered outside dorms and frat houses everywhere. WVU is no better or worse than anyone else in that regard.

These rankings are stupid and this is coming from an FSU grad. Our chics are hot and we party as much as the next school, but how do you really come up with the rankings? I remember when Playboy ranked us #1 years ago and had followed some freaking C level fraternity dork around for a week. Apparently this guy was really "crazy" and new how to "party". Truth is this guy was some tool bag who put on a show for Playboy. There are probably 100 schools out there that you cannot truly decipher in terms of "best party school".

I live here in vegas, but an SC grad, and I've experienced a couple of parties in UNLV, they're parties start from Friday night till Monday mornings before the first class, and if you don't have a class that day, you lucked out and you can rest. SC is my alma-mater, but UNLV really knows how to throw some serious parties.

Props out to my hometown San Diego (SDSU), getting 3rd place votes. Been to a few of those too on Summer Breaks, really wild, but can't compare to UNLV.

Come on... The whole list is a bit stupid. We all know that our respective universities belong on the list, and it shouldn't take one stupid list to determine who is the best party school. I KNOW WVU is probably the best party school, and I agree with Ohio University being on there, since Halloween is crazy. But, what about the rest of the schools that know how to have a good time?? I know Penn State is a crazy school, my cousin went there. Personally I go to Ohio State. We're a big party school, too, and were we on there?? Just let your own experiences speak for themselves, and not some stupid list.

You've gotta post Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY. It's a wet campus in a wet town. With both SUNY Oneonta and Hartwick in the same small town there is unlimited access to partying. Downtown Oneonta is home to 56 bars in one square mile. Both campuses host greek life with houses all downtown. When classes are in session the towns population increases by 3x. Underage drinking is the economy.

I grew up in Chandler,AZ and have a sister that attends ASU. I've been on campus and I agree with several other comments made. There is no real difference. Party schools are determined by size. If it's a major university, not a community or state college, there's a 95% chance kids are partying their @ss off. The two factors that fool people into believing that there are significant differences are wealth status and number of attractive people attending. I attend UT Knoxville and like any other school, we party hard. We do have a great array of girls, mostly blonde, but by no means does that make us a bigger party school than other schools. Theres also an impression that the wealthier the students and atmosphere, the more they party. Again, a misperception. If it's a major, reputable university, you can bet that they are all partying.

I think Geoff is on to something! If,in fact, Oneonta, NY. is a big party school and underage drinking is the towns economy, then it might be safe to assume that Mark May, who is originally from Oneonta is a product of the partying. If he was partying at an early age and continued until he left for Pitt, it is possible that he severly damaged brain cells that have resulted in his idiotic opinions pertaining to college football. So for all of us who were wondering where Mark May comes up with some of the crap he says-well now we know it may have stemmed from one too many keg-stands. Party On, Mark-you idiot!

I have partied at a few schools on the top ten list including #1 ASU, as a student of Ohio University I must say the debaucheries are of a totally different caliber here. ASU rocks the club and bar scene everyday but Ohio University throws street fests and house parties that put to shame any other school I have ever partied at.

Learn to read. There are no rankings this year. They have a list of 10 top party schools, ASU is not #1. As taken from the SI article, "Well, after years of not updating its rankings, Playboy has brought the list back and is scheduled to run it in the May 2006 issue. I recently got a sneak peak at the 'Top 10, and while the official list is in no particular order, here's how I would rank them." These rankings are the SI authors own rankings out of the top 10 that were selected for the playboy article.

I go to ASU. Yeah we like to party, our girls can match up with anyone else's, but our parties aren't any better or any worse than any other decent party schools. So what if I can find 50 parties on Friday night and you can only find 10. I'll probalby get a DUI trying to hit up all of them.

Anyways, most of you idiots are arguing over nothing except someone's opinion. This isn't even an official playboy top 10, because there ARE no rankings.

as a former student of ASU and from the midwest, dont even try and compare ANY school in cold weather climate to ASU. Sure Madison, Iowa City, Or shot even Morgantown, WV for that matter have their one night of GOING NUTS. I have been to Iowa City and the tailgaiting there, like many other great schools with football tradition is INSANE, but how much fun can you have in Jan. when it is 10 degrees and your big parties are in some guy name rob's apartment!

ASU i sdifferent becaus eit is NON stop!!!!!! it is EVERY hour of EVERY night of every WEEEEKKKK!
they start on Tues and dont stop. and i am no talking your 30 to 40 people in a house.....Wanna see a party, Hit the "Library" on a wed night (think Coyote Ugle, but the girls are wearing naughty school girl outfits) All schools have their moments, But when a student body of over 50,000 (which by the way was the MOST amount of students in the nation overtaking Minnesota and Michigan) starts they never stop!!!! That is how you become #1

i think there is one common theme in all of your arguments for Being #1

Halloween in Madison - A great Time no doubt and no one may do it better

LSU, UGA, ANY BIG 10 school - Tailgaiting insanity!

But you all named one event here, one drunk night at O'murphy's Irish pub there! EVERY SCHOOL HAS IT!

ASU just has MORE OF IT!

we do halloween on Mill, but this is of course after the 10 previous nights of bars packed and followed by 10 nights after of the same..there just isnt a break is what i am saying

Anyone who posts anything about U of A, I cant help you, YOU DO NOTHING GOOD!!! you live in Tucson, which for those who dont know lemme throw out some references! Those of you in CALI, it is like Bakersfield or Fresno, My friends In Iowa, it is Sioux City, those of you in Texas, It is El Paso!!!! get my drift!? There are nice girls in Tucson but you neither party hard, tailgate, or have any sort of wild nuttiness to chime in. Nice win over UCLA, but that is all you get (PS Spring Fling does not count, It is a carnival for god sake!!!)

Just a note on realily. Be careful what you wish for. Tail gating is fine but the stigma of a full time "party school" on a resume can last years in the real world. Honestly, I agree with J. I go to ASU but am from the midwest and have partied at alot of the schools mentioned. Every school has their own unique feel and style, but ASU just has all the factors working for it. It's warm all year, the girls are gorgeous, Tempe is completely built around ASU, and access to parties is pretty much guaranteed. There is simply no other place like it in atmosphere.

As you will all find out when the issue is actually printed, the schools are not ranked from 1-10. They are simply "The Top Ten." But having experienced major schools everywhere from the west coast, to the midwest to the south to new england, i am gunna have to say that SDSU and ASU definitely deserve to be on that list.

just to let everyone know the wvu situation. playboy magazine stopepd listing wvu in its top 10 because they said "it is unfair to include professionals in a list full of amateurs" and i do have to say that list is full of complete amateurs. partying just comes natural to a wvu student so the rest of you can just try to step up your game and one day maybe you will be included in the list of pros

ok, i've attended 2 major universities (UMD before) and been to most of them around here. there are a few reasons why WVU is so great to begin with i didn't see anyone mention the fact that in WV the cops cannot arrest anyone underage so long as they don't step on public property. what does this mean?? you will go down the street on ANY night and see parties flowing out onto lawns with people everywhere just as long as they don't step on the sidewalk. and what do the cops do??? stand and watch to make sure a fight doesn't break out. second, at EVERY football game we have an area outside the stadium which the school provides us food and drink and the cops will hand out cups for students. frats will have tailgates galore which they are legally not allowed to charge people for beer. i think i rest my case with that much being said. o and james madison is right up there with the fact they're 75% female. ya i don't think i went to a party there where every guy had a 2-1 ratio. ya VT, sorry you got the bad end of the deal for virginia considering you're stuck with the 75% male ratio.....ouch

Gainesville has bike lanes, aggressive towing companies, and ample copy centers surrounding campus. And to tell the truth, the only people who would be reckless burnouts get zonked by the high grade marijuana and spend their time honing their Madden skills for five to six of the best years of their lives. Not a party school, the University of Florida, since we save our energies for Saturdays. (It's hot--you have to conserve what you've got.)

How are the top party schools determined? Does Playboy go around with a clipboard, and count how many kids are getting drunk during the weekend? Do they count how many kids pass out during the weekend? Do they count how many parties are going on, or maybe how many off campus bars are filled with college students? They must have an army of 300 "reporters" to help conduct this "study". We know that's not the case, so how about they're just going by someone's opinion. Playboy releases their "annual study" to bring attention to themselves.

The town or city has a little to do with the party scene. Montreal levels any of these others towns party wise. Its the party capital of Canada and ranks right up there as a party capital for Eastern North America. Montreal has the highest level, per capita of students in North America with TONS of other major universities in the city (followed by Boston and New York). Legal drinking age of 18 - which, traditionally, attracts US students from New York and Boston and the entire North East, where the majority of the US population is actually found. Montreal is considered one of the party capitals of North America and the festival capital of the world, in part because French Canadian woman are so sexually open. McGill is a prestigious, "Ivy League" quality university (often times hailed as the Harvard of the north) and ranks amongst the most prestigious universities in the world and graduates more Rhodes Scholars then any other school in Canada. This said - I think its important to outline that the students make the school. Being smart or in the top 5% of your graduating class has little to nothing to do with your ability to party. I also fail to see any issue with McGill students posing in Playboy - if anything it attracts more guys, more woman and a much larger application pool which only helps make the school that much stronger. Playboy is international - this can only help McGill by boosting admissions of international students.

Ole Miss has the hottest female population in the country. Vandy or Virginia may be up there but Ole Miss is by far the best considering less than 14,000 go there(same for Vandy and UVA). I don't think people realize how little school work people do in Oxford, Memphis isn't far away and either is Tuscaloosa, Athens, or Auburn. SEC schools party so much harder than anyone else, and of course....women from the South are finer than you'll find anywhere else.

Not only does it make these "top rankings" year after year, But the University of California is one of the best schools in the nation. It's time for a list that combines everything into one. Here's the truth fellas. Wherever you go to college, there is always hot chicks with bangin bodies. I mean most of the hot chicks at ASU who I met were actually from Minnesota and Chicago, two places you couldnt be caught dead in a bikini. Yes I am an ASU alumni, but I am a guy that appreciates a good road trip to other schools to check out what their scenes are all about. I think the fact that gets people goin about ASU is that girls go to class in their bathing suits, they can party with the best of them, you run into a lot celebrity's in Scottsdale (Donovan McNabb helped me out one night when I was blacked out = good fella), its always sunny, and the location can't be beat. 5 hours to Vegas, LA, San Diego, Santa Barbara, and two hours from Mexico (Mexico includes Univ of AZ aka the armpit of America). With that said tho, I couldn't imagine partying at a Florida, Wisconsin, Texas = I think it would be dope. I'm sure the girls are just as hot and things get just as wild. Although I do have to give a quick shout to SDSU for the ladies as well, they know how to recruit. I'm givin love to the other schools as well, you all deserve to be there just as much as the Devils! PS Our bball team couldn't beat a high school team, long live Ike Diogu!

It's hard to rank the top "party school," but it's a lot easier to see who has the best big party. I don't see how you can put ASU at the top if they don't even have a big party...I mean sure they "drink 24/7" but there are a ton of others that do that too! I think it's hard to compare any one weekend to Wisconsin's halloween party or IU's Little 500. The Little 500 is this next weekend and held the nickname for "best college party weekend" for a long, long time. I'm sorry, but I don't see how the other can compete w/ that, even ASU.

I went to B-Lo, meaning Buffalo where it's BELOW freezing most of the year... I'd personally prefer to be in the freezing cold, in a city that exudes depression, has shitty pizza and see chics in parkas and ski caps, who likes pizza anyway? Yes, we drank beer there, but try and get a chic naked when it's -13 degrees and your heat is broken and your pipes are frozen because some crackhead pissed on them, and you risk getting car jacked if you pull over at the ATM on your way to the bars, now that's what I call an adventure... ASU has nothin on B-Lo folks...

Girls with tan bodies, wearing next to nothing and going to class like that?... are you serious?... that's stupid... really really stupid... Get a life! They're probably all just a bunch of stuck up smokin hot whoooo'ers who's idea of fun is getting drunk and getting laid; PATHETIC!!!

But you know what? Even the Honors Students know how to have a good time here. When its still 75 degrees at night, its real easy to have any kind of party you want. Plus, its really easy to be number 1 when you have 50,000 students at the school and a small party can kill 20 kegs in a matter of 4 hours.
