Houston Bowl signs Big 12, Big East through 2009
Since the SEC has seemingly moved on to greener pastures, the Houston Bowl has renewed it's agreement with the Big XII conference and signed to host the #2 or #3 team from the Big East Conference. The new arrangement will begin next year and extend through 2009. The game is scheduled to be played on Dec 31st in each of the four years of the contract.

Army has pulled out of C-USA, and Navy has refused the C-USA invite the last two or three years.
Navy
has actually said they would consider a Big East invitation for for football only. As Navy goes so will Army in this case. Only time will tell. It does look like some position going on before the invitation to me ? Who really knows though.Big Rich said:

We don't want Army or Navy it would water the Big East down. They can't compete with the big boys in the BCS. Our best hope would be to pull a Maryland or Penn State away from there respective conferences. I do think that UL & South Florida will be powers along with Pitt, the Cuse & WV. Connect will be there also.

The Big East is a dying conference. WVU is the only good team in that conference. Yeah, Louisville is okay, but put them in a conference like the Big 10 or the SEC and they wouldn't be as strong as they are today. West Virginia is the only team that has consistently stayed within the Top 25 this season. I wouldn't think any teams would want to join the Big East until it becomes more competative. I think the Big East is on the verge of not being BCS material. They need some stronger teams, and I think the idea of Maryland or Penn State leaving their conferences to join the Big East is nonsense.

I think the whole bowl thing has gotten out of hand. Why cant we just keep the original names instead of endorsement bowls now. Before you know it the Big 12 will be playing in the "2000 Flushes Toliet Bowl"....Where does it stop

Notre Dame could get one of the Big East's two slots every 4 years in both the Sun and Gator bowl. They could also take a Houston bowl slot once every 4 years.
Theoretically the Big East could be left with 1 Gator Bowl, 1 Sun Bowl, and 3 Houston Bowl slots every 4 years. With no guarantee in the BCS bowl after '07 they could be left with only 9 slots to fill in any 4 year period.

The Big East will survive the re-evaluation at the end of 2007. Rutgers will continue to improve and put together 3 winning seasons in a row. Syracuse surely can't be that horrible for to many more years. Pitt will get back on track, and Louisville will continue to be a top 25 team year in and year out. WVU is the top dog in the Big East until further notice. Hopefully they can put together an undefeated season next year or in 2007, they certainly have the young talent on offense to do so.
As for teams joining up in the Big East.....I agree with Alex. Penn State is not going to leave the Big Ten to join the Big East. Army and Navy don't have the support around the athletic department to join up, plus fan support is lacking. I see a Conference USA team moving up vs. a Big Ten team moving down. Notre Dame will alway be an independant due to the money involved. It will be interesting to keep watch over the next few years though.........

To Jeff, UL beat Kentucky (SEC), destroyed Oregan State (Pac 10), scored 60 some on NC (ACC) but yet you say they couldn't compete. There team lat yr was no where near as good as this yrs version & the only team they lost to was Miami & that was in the last seconds in the Orange Bowl.

Perhaps if Miami, BC, and Virginia Tech had not left the Big East, Penn State might join. Despite the fact everybody in the Big 10 seems to hate Penn State, I would rather have them stay there. The games are much more competative there. If they were going to leave the conference I would rather them go back to being an Independant, or join the ACC. Too bad Notre Dame didn't want to join the Big 10 back in 1999.

The Big East needs to look south if wants competive teams with good fan support. USF and Louisville were great additions. I am a USF fan, but think the Univ. of Central Florida would be a good fit for the Big East. Large school(over 40,000), large metropolitan area(Orlando),good fan support(new stadium to be built), great new coach, and lots of good recruits in the area. Southern Miss would also work. Largest school in Miss., good fan support, good football history, plays tough schedule, unfortunately the shool is out in the stix.

UCF will be a strong team next year, most of there players are freshmen and sophmores.
Southern Miss was pretty tought too. the 2 toughest games for us this year were USF and Southern Miss. We had South Carolina... just let it get away. C-USA is horrable, hard to judge if we have a good team. I was hoping for a Big East invite but USF got it...
Congrats on the success USF! Thats the last time I'll ever say anything nice about your school again! I hope we play again soon!

Watch out for the ACC Rule.
They used to call it the Big East Rule - the one that calls for a conference to be reconsidered for a BCS bowl if the 4-year average ranking of the Conference Champ is under 12. Well, as of this year the Big East is at 10 and the ACC is at 14.

Sure UCF and Southern Miss might be good in a few years but whats the point in having a conference where there are schools all over the eastern half of the country? Rutgers, Pitt, Temple, Cuse, BC, and WVU should have all listened to JoePa back in the 70's when he wanted to make an all-sports conference with those schools.

I grew up in Annapolis and am a huge Navy fan, but the BE does not need another mid-level team. I think they need to tell Notre Dame to poop or get off the pot. The BE does not need them watering down BE basketball anymore, nor their stuck up attitude about football. If they don't want to join as they have said, dump them. Penn State would be a great match, I remember the last PSU WVU game in 1992, and it was fun. Southern Miss or UCF are a longer term option, but would take time to build into good programs...time BE football may not have.

1. BCS
2. Gator or Sun (depending on which one selects the Big East in each yr I think it has to be one or the other)
3. Houston Bowl
4. Insight Bowl
5. Meinke Car Care Bowl
Are there any more in the works or are we going to be losing one of the above? Also any rumors about adding teams for Football & if so who?
