supposing USC manages to play a good game or even just scrape by notre dame (even Im not sure it can happen if they dont play better)... and suppose cal goes into the USC game undeafeted in the Pac-10 and USC is as well (Im not sure what week they play oregon)
youre lookin at a top ten match up that could have some major implications for either team. if USC wins that theyre lookin at an almost sure #2 spot since theyre up there already. If cal wins then things could be up in the air again. Im not sayin cal will make the BCS bowl, but heck... anything could happen.
the game I think were all waiting to see is michigan vs Ohio State. Michigan should be #2 now with how theyve played. It will be a great game

I know its not possible, but I think that maybe the Hogs should be ranked higher than Auburn at this point in the season, because the Hogs lose to at the time #3 USC at home, but go on the road to beat #2 ranked Auburn in Auburn where as Auburn loses to unranked Arkansas at home, but beats #2 ranked Florida at home. I also think that Arkansas's out of conference opponents are stronger than Auburn's, but I haven't really checked into the schedule/results of those opponents for BCS sake. AD you were the man at OU! Some more funny stuff. USC has scored more than twenty points in 58 consective games - yet, they're struggling. Michigan goes out and scores seventeen against a lousy Penn State team and ascends to #2 in the country. The "Great California" team got 21 against Washington State (who USC scored 26 on). Who's really struggling? I don't care if USC is #3 or #10 - who cares? The hypocrisy is mind numbing. The "Great Michigan" team gets seventeen against Penn State. Didn't Notre Dame roll these dudes up with 40 something? How is it that every time somebody plays against a lousy team (Penn State should have lost against Minnesota, refs cheated, or Penn State would be 3-4), and wins, they automatically ascend to #2. I can't figure it out.
Oh, and here comes the SEC crowd again demanding a playoff now that all the teams in the SEC have lost by the midway point. That means they'll all have two losses I suppose. Neverthless, what have they played so far? Two or three good teams each and can't stay unbeaten - yet they insist that they are entitled to a shot at the National Championship game? Sorry, no dice! Again, they have to slight Arkansas as they elivate Auburn up the charts. Why? Is it because Auburn has no offense at all? Or, is it because Florida played another horrible game in the SEC? Yes, Auburn's defense played well. But, not that well. Florida averaged 6.5 yards per carry and Leak's arm had definately moved all the way forward when the pass was batted down. I was not impressed at all by another sloppy performance by a team that was deamed on the verge of "greatness". Every week we have a new "great team" from the SEC. Don't think so. Your great team is in Arkansas people. They rolled up over 500+ on the ground last weekend and they'll be rolling thru your neighbood real soon. All this B.S. of Auburn winning the west. Arkansas has to lose twice for that to happen and Auburn has to win out - yet they can't seem to score even one touchdown. What a joke of a conference! Oh, and Alabama barely squeeks by Ol' Miss while Vandy beats Georgia for the 1st time since the Civil War. But LSU, as usual, looked awsome against another one of the lousiest teams in America. By the way - several of the most horrible teams in the NCAA reside in the SEC.Tommie T

I dont understand why Tenn and Auburn are rated above Florida. Yes Auburn did beat Florida but the week before they lost to Arkansas, an unranked team, and they didnt even score a damn touchdown on offence against Florida. I can't understand why they moved ahead of Florida from the 11th spot after they lost to Arkansas. And Florida beat Tenn. why are they ahead of the Gators, both teams have one lost so why should Tenn be in front of Florida?

The reason a playoff system would be good is so that crap like sharing a national championship will not have to happen again. Remember That?
About your comments on the SEC, yes Florida has one loss, but they also have the 2nd hardest schedule in college football, and the Auburn game could have easily gone to Florida, but enough about that. I am not taking anything away from USC they have a hard schedule too, but they have not played the hardest part of it yet. I dont expect you to think the SEC is the best conferene in college football, but for you to say it is a joke of a conference is the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

There is no question at all that if Cal were to beat USC this year - then they should be in the Rose Bowl. BCS bid is a lock if Cal wins out. USC would no doubt, get a BCS bid, if they finish with only one loss. Sad thing is, and it's a crock, that Cal probably would not receive a BCS bid if they finished with a 10-2 record (only losses to Tennessee in Knoxville and USC at the Coliseum). That's your east coast media bias at work. No matter who loses to USC - they have to drop about thirty spots in the rankings. It's just too comical for me to comprehend. But, if we beat Notre Dame by 40+ - they might only slip to #10.

Well said. I mean to say that most of the SEC faithful are just a joke in their holding onto to ideas that just are not fact. There are several really good teams in the SEC. Florida has in fact played a tough schedule and still has Florida State looming on the horizon. Tennessee always plays some tough teams out of league. The SOS that these teams have played will propel them higher in the rankings. It is comendable that these two coaches have figured out what it is gonna take to get a title shot. And, Florida eventually will. I don't know if I've seen two finer freshman on the same field at once like Tebow and Harvin. Florida had a #2 recruiting class last year and a very high one the year before. Great days are coming for the Gators. Probably next year Florida will rise up and really challenge for "greatest team in the land".
That being said: every team that schedules these extremely weak OOC foes who cannot help them in their rankings - have nothing to complain about when they cannot get back near the top. Auburn had to beat Florida to do it. Florida stays near the top based on it's schedule so far. Schedule means everything.
Here's the way I really see it: There are several programs throughout the country who are playing for a National Championship each year. That is the goal. Those teams are USC, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Michigan, Texas, Miami, Florida State, Notre Dame and few others. The reason that I say this is because these teams always line up stiff opposition to build up their SOS ratings for the BCS Final Poll. If they win the games they play, along with their conference games, they stand a great chance of playing for all the marbles. That is why Ohio State-Texas, Oklahoma-Oregon, Miami-Louisville, Michigan-Notre Dame, USC-Notre Dame, USC-Nebraska, Tennessee-California and Florida-Florida State games are happening. All these teams are shooting for the top.
Now, there are another group of teams (who may be directed by their conferences), who are only trying to sneak into a BCS Bowl game. There is alot of money there and that may be the only incentive that these teams have. They will not play anymore than the minimal schedule that they can get away with. They know that more than one loss and they are out of that money. So, these teams tend to schedule alot of division II patsies in order to never risk losing a game. For these schools - it's very obvious to everyone else what they are all about. These teams include LSU, Auburn, Alabama and Georgia (although Georgia does play Georgia Tech each year). I'm sorry. Taking on the weaker teams of the Pac-10, like Arizona and Washington State, isn't gonna get it done. So, this is the thing that everybody else knows. We know that there are certain teams in the SEC who duck any kind of real OOC game. It's is very hard to respect that. Other teams from other conferences do this also. In the Pac-10 - it's California usually. Nebraska has been doing this until this year. Texas Tech is another culprit.
But, the good news for Gator fans is that Florida is going to become the dominate team that the SEC has been missing. I was not a fan of Urban Meyer early on. I was not sold on that one good year at Utah. But, I'm impressed with the recruiting, and the way Florida has been able to start winning games in the SEC. I think Florida is about 15-4 under Meyer - and that's a pretty good start for a guy who just walked into a job. With the two past recruiting classes - Florida should easily retain Top Five status over the next three years minimum.Tommie T

Is Lee Corso smoking crack? Michigan is a part of the toughest conference in college football? Let the Michigan's, Ohio State's, Notre Done's and USC's of the world come play in the SEC week in and week out!!! We'd definately see how durable they are by season's end....

I think WV beats Louisville, Notre Dame upsets USC, and Ohio State beats Michigan in a close one. I think it then will be Ohio State and West Virginia in the BCS title game. I would also like to see the Auburn play Texas and a BCS matchup. I think that would be an interesting matchup. But then again, maybe Cal and Oregon can both knock out USC. I still think USC has not faced really tough competition just yet. I'm not hating on them because I know who they have played this year, but I think Notre Lame, Oregon, and Cal will be very tough for the Trojans. You were the man at OU AD!! Go Sooners!!
