First, congrats to the AP for finally getting it right and boosting LSU to the #1 spot. They've been number one in the BCS poll pre-rankings for two weeks already, so it's nice to see the writers catching up.

Now, for the rest of the poll....

Let's just tap the brakes on boosting teams into the top of the poll based solely on their record. I mean, seriously, does anyone think that a very nice USF team is capable of beating everyone ranked below them? And is Kentucky - KENTUCKY - really deserving of the #8 spot, or do they just have an undefeated record?

I've been big fans of both schools, but I think the polls are experiencing some "irrational exuberance" right now. I promise you that Oregon is every bit as dangerous to Kentucky and USF... and I would take the Ducks in either matchup. Just sayin.

At this rate we'll start seeing a pretty average Ohio State team showing up in the top five..... Oh wait.

Yeah. Let's just simmer down now, pollsters.

Ohio State and Wisconsin have no place in the top 6.

USF and Kentucky are both a little bit overrated, but not much.

I woulda kept Oregon much, much higher.

Boston College should rank in the top 5, but I don't blame the pollsters for being cautious after a crummy performance against a 1-AA team.

Damnit. Maybe if next weekend can have as many upsets as this weekend and FSU wins again... maybe, just maybe we'll sneak into the polls.

The USA Today Polls and Harris Interactive Polls should join together and be called the Whack Polls! The AP Polls isn't great but at least it knows who should be #1 and #2. LSU should have gotten more first place votes.

Ill bet if USC were to lose to Cal.they wouldnt drop them out of the top five.
BCS worst nightmare Hawaii 12-0 South florida 12-0 only two undefeated teams. I hope something like that happens just to push the playoff envelope. How could they keep South Florida out of championship since it is a BCS conference.
Not that i think they are the best team just from watching them, however they would deserve a shot at playing for it. Polls make me nauseous

Thanks to ABC shoving it down our throats again this year, I have watched plenty of USC football. Does anyone else get the feeling that they are not that good? Does anyone else get the feeling that they will lose to BOTH Cal and Oregon? They looked terrible last night. Maybe the rest of the PAC is just catching up with them. Who knows. Just my observation. I mean Auburn looked better than Southern Cal last night. Seriously, tell me I'm wrong. And as far as Oregon and Cal, it looked like they could have scored endlessly. Those offenses are dynamite man. I love my DAWGS but I don't see any O like that from them. GO DAWGS!!!

Hey GA Boy...you are not the only one. I feel the same way. I been called names and some have even gave themselves handles with my name in it! Example: hehatelennie, lenniedelusional, and so forth. I know after last night game these USC fans will go away for awhile. They will return after USC stomp Stanford. The rest of the Pacific-10 is catching up with USC. Some USC football fans are seasonal anyways. They are VERY vocal when USC is winning and quite when they are not. There are some that are very cool as well. You show be glad that USC and Washington was on tv last night. Now YOU, GA BOY, have visual proof they are not that UNSTOPABLE!

I believe that USC/LSU is a tossup. I'd like to see them play for it. That being said, I don't think LSU did anything Saturday to earn jumping over USC. Weren't they down at the half to Tulane?

As for the rest of the polls...I see the word "overrated" being used again. So, all the teams that lost, they're not overrated, but the teams that continued to win and jumped over them are somehow? Great logic.

I really wish we could retire that word; it's as overused as the words "genius" and "brilliant" used for players and coaches. It's a freaking poll. It's not based on anything but a bunch of opinions.

Gentlemen, if you don't want a playoff system, this is the one you're stuck with. I hear and read every year from those who don't want a playoff to determine the NC that the playoffs start when the season begins. So, when undefeated teams rise to the top of the polls, what else did you expect? For them to drop?

Let the season play out and we'll see the cream rise to the top. We just got into the month of October, for crying out loud. Everybody knows the season doesn't truly get serious until November anyway, and this week's poll will be long forgotten and not even close to being the same by then.

    Google Account (#11):

OSU dispatched Washington at their place in about the same way USC did on Saturday, and USC has played only one top 25 team in their 4 games so far (Nebraska on 9/15). As a matter of fact, the next tough game on their schedule is on 10/27 against Oregon. Until then--brace yourself--they have Stanford, Arizona and Notre Dame.

So, by your logic, is USC being pushed on us by the media?

I personally think USC is as good as advertised, despite their schedule, which has 2 bye weeks in it.

gatorhippy, why do you think a 2 loss Auburn team, would slide back into the top 25? I believe that the 29 and 30 rankings that they did achieve are too high. They are a team that almost lost to KSU, lost to USF and Miss State, then beat New Mexico St and UF. That doesn't sound like a team deserving of top 25 consideration.

    Tampa Hurricane
Auburn did have a bad game against Miss St. But you can't fault us for losing to South Florida they are a top Ten team now and are ALOT BETTER than anyone thought at the begining of the season. Now we have a WIN over a top ten team now that says too things to me. ONE Florida although a good team may not have been as good as first thought or Auburn may not have been as bad as first thought. We are young and Learnig fast other teams need to beware a wounded tiger should not be messed with. TT always has this team UP for the BIG games.

I agree that LSU should be # 1, after watching USC and Washington play, I think it’s a good possibility that SC will lose 1 possibly 2 games this year. OU is a perfect example that you have to play both halves of a game, not that they looked good in the first half but it was their game to lose and they did. Texas is a better team than they showed against K State, although they haven’t looked real good this year, but they have had a lot of off field distractions. I think the game this week will be another down to the wire nail biter.
Not taking anything away from Auburn, they played a great game, but I think Florida is also a better team than they showed against Auburn. LSU better come ready to play this week, if they play like they did the first half against Tulane, they will be in the same boat as the rest of us, One in the loss column.
    Texas sucks

With Florida only dropping 5 spots to #9, one of two scenarios are at work: 1) the Gators have Polaroids of some of the pollsters, or 2) The polls give more respect to Auburn than was previously imagined. If it's the latter, I think that the Tigers should have cracked somebody's Top 25 poll. What do we have to do, beat Vanderbilt this week?

Kentucky could be a top 10 team, they're just going to have to show me more. They haven't played FL, GA, TN, or SC yet--the meat of their schedule. Take 3 out of 4 of those and I'm a true believer.

Hey hey, Kansas State. Good for them. They could be 4-0 right now.

Go Gators! A win in Baton Rouge will throw the SEC West WIDE open again! I'm quite confident that the SEC will eat it's own again this year, as usual.

I thought about this two weeks ago, but I dared not say it out loud. I think no major team makes it through this year undefeated. Parity is in the air!

I think if we win our next two games (vandy at home, @Ark), we'll be ranked, but I'm willing to bet that too many of the voters thought that it's too early in the season to rank a 2-loss team. Easier said than done, though, Vandy's decent, and Arkansas in Fayettvile is always a tough game.

The question I have for those voters is this- how many teams on your poll ballot could beat Florida in Gainesville? Not 24 of them, that's for sure!

    AU03

You could easily make the argument that Auburn belongs in the top 25. However, the loss to MS St is going to leave Auburn with a black-eye for a couple of more weeks.
Chances are, most of the voters are looking at AU's win over the gators as an anomoly. That's not how I perceived the win, but it's probably how the voters are taking it.

    Hey WAr Eagle
Leave us out of the top twenty five we play better....lol White jerseys would be nice too. We get to test that theory this weekend as we wear white at home against Vandy wearing our 1957 uniforms.
Our road record is hard to believe not sure what the problem at home is.
As far as teams being left out of the top 25 where is FSU. I think they should be there.

You're right, Rammer Jammer. That's what happens when you have a team as young as we do. You screw up early, and the voters are reluctant to give credit where it's due. The funny thing is, if we win the next two games, we have to go Death Valley next, so if we do get ranked, we're likely to have a short stay.

Here comes the rhetoric again about USC. It's funny how bloggers here smack USC that won while I don't hear any smack about thier own teams who lost. Typical. Lennie smacks USC again. Hey Lennie, why not Spend the next seven days smacking your Oklahoma team. At least USC didn't choke. The majority of people on this site's teams have a loss, not Pete Carroll. Speaking of LSU. Ok they are the beast. Right. That smack down of Tulane was impressive. LSU still hasn't left the state of LA. yet to play a road game and now after 5 weeks none of the teams they've played have looked impressive at all. Are ya'll ready to bet the house LSU can beat USC. I doubt it!. It's funny how the Oklahoma, Florida fans said they're team should of been ranked higher than USC are now bandwagoning other teams that they say are better than USC. At least be a man about it and say "yeah my team lost" instead of trying to turn the focus on USC. How's that for stand up Lennie. I am a man of my word.

    Well, well, well...

My, my, my...Oh how the worm hath turned here on fanblogs...

Fellas...if you thought Auburn's defense was legit...LSU's is the TRUF...

As for the comment earlier about being down at the half to Tulame...I'll admit it...We STUNK IT UP in the first half...Never seen an LSU squad with that many penalties (11) with so many coming on one side (9 by the offense) in one (ONE?) half of football...Clearly their heads were not in the game...

Six sacks of Matt Flynn ain't going to cut it. That offensive line was as out of sorts as it seemed Matt Flynn was...and inexplicably, we did not insert Ryan Perrilloux into the game at all in the first half.

The holding in the end zone was a perfect example of a perfect storm: Tulane worked us over in the field position department throughout the first half, and the maddeningly mediocre offensive line play reared its head in the end zone...

Our defense gives up perhaps a drive a game, and we did give up one to them late...

But, on offense, we had Will Arnold out again-and possibly forever-as well as Early Doucet out-again-and also had Brandon LaFell (our #2 behind Doucet) leave with a bad ankle/Achilles stretch for most of the first half after a long catch to start us off...

So, without the first two options at wideout, without one of our best offensive lineman, with our team playing its worst game of the year (forget USC...we were completely out of it on "O") so far...with all of that...we went into the half with the lead, and we outscored our opponent 24-0 in the 2nd half...Holding them to less than 250 yards of total offense, and maintained both our perfect record, our total defensive ranking, and gutted out a nice win on a weekend where half the Top 10 couldn't say the same thing.

I agree with earlier posters: If LSU plays like that against UF, we'll turn the SEC into a chaotic gumbo...But, the truth is, we won't...

We were looking ahead. We were worried about our atrocious, fugly unis. We were dealing with a crappy 11:00am kickoff (our earliest in five years, since the '02 Cotton Bowl)...

It won't happen twice. Florida is about to be removed. Not from the national championship picture. Not from the SEC Championship picture. But from the SEC Eastern Division Title picture.

    Courtesy of LSU.

Who woulda thunk that what could turn out to be the most important game of the week in the SEC would be Thursday night between...South Carolina & Kentucky?

Or that our biggest test could come against the Cats in two weeks?

Regarding the polls, At least they are starting to get it right (somewhat) with the 5-25 part of the poll. S. florida should of been in the top 10.
Cinn. though still hasn't gotten the love it deserves. These two teams have been the best value the first 5 weeks of the season by far in the books.

    AU03

I don't think you are giving AU enough credit. If Brandon Cox plays well, and your defense plays as well as they did vs. UF; then I would say they have a good shot at beating LSU-JMO

Also, I've watched every Bama game this year. That being said, if Bama can beat Arkansas and Vandy; then I'm pretty sure AU can. You want to talk about a young team...Look at Bama. We are playing way over our heads. Especially the defense.

interesting...all Ohio State has done is:
    1) win all the games they were supposed to win (which is more than I can say for most everyone else in the top ten)
    2) have a dominating defense (#2 in virtually every category), which is more than i can say for every one else in the top ten(except LSU)
3)travel 2000 miles to Wash and beat them much more convincingly than USC

and we still have some idiots (@2 @11) on this forum that think ESPN is pushing OSU on us???
    are you all frickin nuts?
I havent heard the Gameday crowd mention us this entire year, they are so busy kissing tebow, oklahoma, and WVU's asses. and what did those 3 do? they LOST..
Kirk Herbstreit played quarterback at Ohio State, and he hasn't mentioned us ONCE!!!

Why is it that when big ten teams struggle against lower tier teams from their conference(Wisconsin, for example), you guys use it as evidence that everyone in the big 10 sux?
When teams from your beloved xxxx (fill in any other conference), struggle, you use it as evidence that even the lower tier teams are awesome....kinda hypocritical if you ask me.

although i still think it remains to be seen how good the buckeyes really are, NOONE has played as consistently, offensively and defensively, and special teams. (I really like LSU, but face it, their offense is not that great, SFLa plays great D, but again, no offense)

The bottom line is: They deserve to be where they are. And don't use last years game as an example of why they suck...half that team is playing in the NFL now, this is a completely different team.

    DMANLV,

What planet do you exist on right now? Do you think it's LSU's choice to have not played outside of Louisiana so far?

You know not of what you speak. You remind me of what Cowherd said this AM on the radio. That we haven't played on the road yet.

That's not LSU's fault. That's the fault of the SEC and their silly, ridiculous attempts to maintain the Alabama/Tennessee and Auburn/Georgia rivalries. With unbalanced scheduling, you see a team like LSU have to travel to powerhouses like Auburn, Florida, Tennessee, & Arkansas last year, only to have them all at home this year...

That's the SEC's fault...Not LSU's...So if you want to talk about scheduling or road/home, you better come up with something you know a little more about before holding it over our heads...

    Dismissed.

T.E. your a little too sensitive. My point was that we can't possible know what LSU is like until it's gets into an environment of playing outside of LA. Three days ago OK looked like a great team, until they went on the road. Until LSU goes on the raod and plays at least a good team I'm not convinced. I really do think we have a chnace against LSU, but I'm doubful we'll win because we'll need to run to win, and our O-line is starting 3 freshmen, while LSU'd D-line is all-world. I'm confident that our D will give them some fits, though, even (likely) w/o Quinten Groves.

As for Bama, I think the biggest problem is your defense not getting to rest enough, due to lack of depth and the offense not moving the ball well.

Tiger Ed: What's wrong with trying to preserve historic SEC rivalries? LSU is lucky in the fact that all it's long-time SEC opponents are in the west division, with the possible exception of Kentucky. Auburn should have been in the east, because it's long-time SEC rivals were Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida every year, with Alabama being the only team in the west. But the conference decided they needed to be in the west, as so not to load up one side with too many good teams.

But the realigning of the conference has created some new intense rivalries among SEC opponents who didn't used to play each other regularly, such as Florida-Tennessee, Florida-LSU, Auburn-LSU, and Georgia-Tennessee.

DmanLV...I really don't know what is your problem? If you spent MORE time reading my posts instead of "jocking" USC ALL THE TIME you would see that I never claimed Oklahoma should be ranked higher than USC, F-A-C-T! Second of all I did talk bad about Oklahoma lost to Colorado, F-A-C-T! It is sad that you spend more time talking junk then reading my posts You say you a man of your word, try being a man with good judgement now. Read all my comments before you start talking untrue junk about me. You bragged about some science junk of LSU and Oklahoma playing like the #1 Co-teams in the country. What doggone science where you using? Does that same science apply to USC now? You sure were not using logic and facts! Oklahoma lost to Colorado because they FAILED to finished them off! I don't make excuses when OU loses but the way you sound you are trying to make me look like I was calling plays or playing! USC did not play like the #1 or #2 team in the country, F-A-C-T! California should be #2, in my opinion. The way I see it no one on this blog sounds like they hate USC. They are saying USC isn't perfect and they can get beaten. You are quick to call someone immature well DmanLV go back and read some of your comments...Sounds I-M-M-A-T-U-R-E to me. Example: I don't think USC is the best team right now in college football. Response: Aw man you just hatin' man you just USC playa' hatin'! Just because someone does like Oklahoma or "jock" them or better yet does not care to see them on television all the time does not make them a hater, immature, stupid, or conspiriter in my opinion. Remember DmanLV Championships are what people look at. USC wins are impressive but I guess you failed to read my comment on that. Are you HATIN' on me?

    AU03
I think the 3 and outs are more of a culprit than the depth.

Bama is a well conditioned team. However, the defense can't stay on the field all game and be expected to not give up big plays.

AUTigerman: I'm not a throw-back uniform guy, but if it gets us the victory, then good. With a win against Vandy on Saturday, we will finally move ahead in the all-time standings against Vanderbilt. Yes, I know, it's pretty strange. Granted, Auburn hasn't lost to Vandy in 52 years, but they just don't play that often--39 times in 114 years.

What most people don't know is that Vandy used to be a power at the turn of the last century. Most of their victories against Auburn were notched back in the 1920s. Auburn owns a winning record against every other SEC school except Alabama and LSU. We're currently .500 against the Dores, but should go ahead in the series again for the first time since 1893. Yea, I know...

Not hating on ya Lennie, Just calling it as I see it. remember, "you" said it's about opinion. In all of our posts how many times have you seen me dog Oklahoma. Yet you will dog USC.
I don't care if you have complimented them, that doesn't take away the fact you said more negative overall than positive. "I" on the other hand could take this time to smack Oklahoma and yet I'm not. So see Lennie, when you throw the word "haten" around it's been you sir who have talked the smack as a whole. That's how I see it and that's what's different in our opnions. Also, I find it funny how you talked up Sam Bradford (yes I have read your posts)yet now have down played him after the loss. You always seem to want it both ways with your team but USC is basically one way. I suspect the rhetoric about Oklahoma will subside and now you'll jump on someone else's bandwagon like now I see with CAL.
After they loose who'll be next?

Lennie, just admit here that you hate the fact it's been USC that has been the dominant program the last 5 years and in reality you wish it was Oklahoma and Bob Stoops who were on ESPN all the time rather than Pete Carroll. At least it would be a little more honest. That way you wouldn't hide behind the reason's why you don't like USC and have a biased view of them. I can honestly respect that more than trying to act like you are giving your "honest" opinions. Your opinions are not honest they are biased for the reason's I stated above. So a least say it for what it is.

I have 3 friends of mine Ed, Brandon, and Nissa that actually graduated from USC. If I had them get on here and say that i don't hate them you still wouldn't believe me. Fact, I down talk OU as a team not Samuel Bradford. I jump on no one bandwagon. Read your post. Seems like you jump on USC bandwagon when Pete Carrol arrived and start winning. You are unbelieveable. I still wanna know what science you used to judge LSU and OU on. Does that same science apply to USC. Talk smooth, call names, but answer the question. I am Crimson and Cream True not Navy and Gold True or Purple and Gold True. i guess you want everyone here on this blog to convert to USC fans? Bow down and worship them? Grcunning, You get it. The smack down people try and put on Ohio St. especially after the Florida game last year is so bogus. I have not and will not smack Ohio St. simply because of thier history. Yet, some of these buffoons think that last's years game against Florida is an indictment of Ohio St. There are some who just want to smack teams simply because "those" teams are not thier teams. It is so disengenous. This blog is usually full of Gator fans but I see today not many have shown up. I'm sure though if Ohio St. had lost this weekend and Florida won they'd be all over it. Others whose team lost are now trying to point the finger at other teams who won to deflect thier sorrows. It's about what I exspect from many on this blog.

Lennie, you're back peddling. "Have" a different tone than just a few weeks ago?! You come up with so much spin. I want people to bow down to USC? What??? Where did that come from? Spinning again to deflect the facts aye! No Lennie, I'm just asking that you don't play both ends from the middle and be a little less disengenous. That's all. Is that too much to ask? You stated that USC didn't look like the #1 team this weekend. OK, I agree but did you make the same statement about LSU after the Tulane game? If you had stated as such about both teams you would of shown some integrity. Instead you showed you personal bias. Homer LSU because you like them, let everyone know USC didn't look like the #1 team because you don't. That is the point I've been making for two weeks that for some reason you won't or can't grasp. Call it like you see it, But at least be fair about it. Hammer USC all you want about the UDUB game but at least be fair and say the same about LSU's game with Tulane. If I had seen that you and I wouldn't have this disagreement right now.

I hate the Gators with a good amount of passion.

But the fact is, they've been good.

    And Ohio State hasn't.

Last year, "THE" Ohio State was ranked #1 all year and then got blown out by real competition.

So until "THE" Ohio State can prove that they're better than last year, they're still just the overrated Big 11 team...that has now somehow managed a #4 ranking.

On a side note...isn't it funny how cocky the major Big 11 schools are? The Michigan Wolverines are "the victors and the best," it's not Ohio State, it's THE Ohio State University. All of that looks like such bullsh*t right now, don't it?

They haven't been good? and Florida has???
Read the paper dude, FLORIDA LOST...and to a 2-2 team. they havent been good..they rely on one player..if he gets hurt, they are a 4-6 team..
and who should be in the top 5? WV, Miami, Florida, florida st, Oklahoma, Texas? They ALL LOST!!!
If anyone is overrated, it is Florida..they havent beat anyone to speak of, they lost AT HOME, and they stay in the top 10?? above SFL and a bunch of teams who haven't lost??
Oh I know, i know, every team in the SEC, no matter what their record is, is Awesome, and everyone in the big 10 is overrated and sucks..

TE - Wasn't that line from Macbeth? Not sure, but well-placed quote anyway.

#50 - The reason Ohio State has only lost 1 game in the past 25 is because they played 24 crap opponents. I'm no SEC fan, but Florida knocked you on your asses last year, and "THE" Ohio State hasn't done anything to show me that they've improved.

I'm not saying anything favoring Florida, I hate Florida, and was very glad to see them lose.

But last year the Gators were very good, and demolished "THE" Ohio State. And what has Ohio State done to get better since last year? Nothing - in fact, they lost their vaunted Heisman-winning quarterback.

So beat someone of note, or else the fact that you got blown out of the water by a decently talented team is gonna stick with you.

And by the way, talking about how Florida is bad isn't really helping you, since they wiped you off the face of the earth last year.

    Cane Mutiny (#68):

Before I say anything else, I want to tell you I respect what the Miami program has accomplished over the years. So, I'm surprised you made the following comment, since winning 24 out of 25 is Miami-esque:

"#50 - The reason Ohio State has only lost 1 game in the past 25 is because they played 24 crap opponents."

You can say that if you want, but the fact is The Ohio State University played 3 #2 ranked opponents last season alone and were 2-1. They also play in a BCS conference that's usually strong year after year. What else do you want them to do?

With Tressel at the helm, The Ohio State University is 4-2 in Bowl games, and 5-1 against their top rival. Again, what else do you want them to do?

You must've missed something last weekend. Out of the 8 ranked teams that were upset, only one lost to a team ranked in the top 25. There are no "crap opponents" any more.

BTW, I think Randy Shannon is going to turn things around down there.

Also, to answer your question, that quote was from Macbeth.

TB - That's a fair comment to say that they played three #2's, but when you break it down, it's really not all that impressive...

Texas sputtered after the Ohio State game, and finished #13 (probably their second best opponent).

Michigan was proven to be as overrated as Ohio State was with a Rose Bowl blowout loss.

And Florida, the one team Ohio State played last year worth a darn. Final score: 41-14.

So I'll give it to you, you made some good points. But I'm still not convinced that Ohio State is any better than the team that got drubbed by Florida in the MNC game last year.

But yeah, this argument is going nowhere, I'll wait until Ohio State loses to bring this topic back up.

That AP poll is the only one that shows a degree of legitimacy. Why, because to all of you stupids who only want to argue about which team is better among teams which have not met this year, the AP recognizes South Carolina and Georgia HAVE met this year. It has been proven which team is better among the two at this point. Georgia has done nothing to disprove this. Yeah I admit the Cocks have one loss, to LSU.
The other polls prove there are a lot of jealous coaches and stupid sportswriters.

The AP gets it. The other "pretender" polls are comprised of jealous coaches and idiotic "second tier sports writers". This is 2007, Georgia lost and South Carolina won. The pretender polls ignore this fact. Georgia has done nothing to elevate itself over South Carolina who has one loss to LSU.

To be honest, Texas shouldn't have started the year that high in the rankings. How many freshman (redshirt or true) can lead their teams to a national championship? There might be a couple, but it seems to me that it is an unrealistic expectation. You can make an argument for Texas if Colt hadn't gotten hurt, after then the wheels came off. And I think Michigan was a great win last year, but they seemed to lose their confidence after that loss. How many teams can go into the 'Shoe and beat top 4 ranked OSU team (I put top 4 for a good reason)? DMANLV, lets see how you react to loss for your team. Nobody takes a loss well (Lennie seems to be fine though), so after USC loses we'll get to hear your excuses. As for me, no excuses, Texas deserved to lose with how they played.

There are so many directions I can go with my comments. I read all of the post and decided to add my 2 cents in one specific area.

If Ohio State "slips" into the national title game, it would be a shame. They will get blown out again. As a matter of fact, they would loose 3 games in the SEC and Pac-10 this year (if they were there).

I hope that LSU goes undefeated in the tough SEC so that Ohio State has no chance to lay another egg in the title game.

DmanLV...are you trying to win Butthole Fan of the Year Award? You got my vote for sure! USC has a fine football program and I don't think Peter Carrol needs you to try and push it on the public! You brag about USC 62-6 record over the last 5 years...how many Championships have they won? Like U2 hit a few years ago...One! One! One! You talk about me being immature? DmanLV you started out cool now you're a fool. Maybe you need some Puddy Pie, Double Portions of it, to ease some of the tension you have. You probably would turn it down to watch repeats of the USC and NU game! What are you trying to prove? What points are you trying to make? I am almost sure that all the bloggers here view college football has entertainment. Man if USC does not win the National Title you might cut your wrist or jump head first out of a window. If USC winning is important to your well being then that is your thing but I believe the majority of the fans here are going to function well if their team win or lose! I will say it right here right now my 6 year old son brings me more joy then any game Oklahoma has played or will play! You say I am avoiding the questions you ask, you are avoiding the questions I ask you. If USC kick the doo-doo out of a winless Stanford team what will that prove? What science will you use to judge USC performance against Washington? Do you own a house? I bet you got so much USC junk in your yard and on your house it is in violation of the city's ordinance! What about your car? I bet you got so much USC junk on it and in it that even when you are parked you get ticketed for a moving violation. I bet you got a Cardinal and Gold "player" suit with a USC tie and hat that you wear out to the club to try and pick up the ladies. They seem interested in you but when you find out that they are not USC fans you just kick them to the curb! Do you got USC or the Trojan head tattoed on you? Do you have all your favorite USC players photos in your wallet? Do you have sympathy for O.J. Simpson? Do you think O.J. did it?

I'm a bit confused. Can someone explain to me why Hawaii is holding at 15/16 across the board? You can sit there and argue that they are undefeated but so is UCONN. Hawaii has a sorry excuse for a schedule with wins thus far against : Northern Colorado, Louisiana Tech, UNLV, Charleston Southern, and Idaho.

The remaining schedule? Utah State, San Jose State, New Mexico State, Fresno State, Nevada, Boise State, and Washington

It seems to me that the rankings inexplicably favor Hawaii and is riding the Colt Brennan hype from last year. Couldn't you say that UCONN deserves a spot? They also beat soundly defeated weak teams : Duke, Maine, Temple, Pitt, and Akron.

I'm certainly not advocating that UCONN should crack the top 25. My point is that neither Hawaii nor UCONN have any business being there.

Hey, pactenlugoff, since you say the AP Poll isn't regarded as the BCS, then why is USC claiming a share of the '03 National Championship because of it?

You guys must have some smelly chairs this morning after all the foam rubber cheek gripping you've been doing the past two days...

Just like the PAC-10 wants to whine about not having a Championship game and not having it weigh against those that say their path is too easy, a team like LSU cannot control the scheduling the conference it plays in requires of us...

We sure could've complained last year, when we faced four Top 10 teams, all on the road, splitting with AU(7-3 loss), UF (23-10 loss), Tennessee (28-24 win), and Arkansas (31-26 win)...

That's the way the SEC works right now...We play them all at home one year, all on the road the next...

We also can't control the fact that Virginia Tech isn't as powerful as some people thought...Though they are Top 15, and we did annihalate them...as well as South Carolina, whose knocking on the Top 10's door...

We will also go up against Kentucky, who will be Top 15 no matter the outcome of Thursday night's game against USC (Which will help us in SOS even more, no matter who wins), and obviously remain Top 10 if they win.

We also have the SEC Championship Game, which will be played in Atlanta...Not exactly a hotbed of LSU fans...

Sorry you guys are so transparent...Talking big smack about how LSU plays all its tough guys at home, forgetting last year's road and 4 Top 10 teams on it, and then setting up for the fact that LSU has the BCS National Championship Game in its own backyard...

LSU doesn't make the rules...They just play by them...Nobody dogged USC for winning against UCLA, Stanford, Cal-Berkley, etc., when it never ventured out of Cali...So why would you dog LSU for not venturing out of LA?

Spare me...You MENSA members don't have the ability, and I've neither the time, nor the inclination to try to set you any straighter or own you anymore...I know I recused myself earlier, but I just couldn't resist...

    You all deserve it...

Let's not even talk about O.J.! Hey I got nothin' against fans or zealots of other teams but DmanLV and Pactenlugoff are goin' a step farther. I owe Tomcat an apology. Hey Tomcat the fact is LSU has beaten 2, I said 2, Top 15 teams, FACT. Hey did Virginia Tech deserve that #9 at the time? Did South Carolina deserve to be ranked #12 at the time? I don't know and NO ONE ELSE knows! Fact, USC beat a #14 Nebraska team. Did nebraska deserved to be ranked #14 at the time? Again I don't know? Did LSU look unbeatable against Tulane, of course not! Did USC look unbeatable against Washington, heck no! USC needs to focus on their next 3 opponents: Stanford, Arizona, and Notre Dame. They might mess around and one if not all 3 might get their first win of the season against USC. DmanLV is trying to get the focus off that statement USC is the "greatest". They won the game but they definitely did not look the greatest against Washington. Pactenlugoff, whatever that name really means, is just sounding off cause he can't really comment on the Great USC win over Washington as well. I don't dislike these guys and I am sure they could bring some great facts to this blog but right now they just ain't showing it! I don't know about you Tomcat but I wish no more Oklahoma Sooners win the Heisman Trophy. The Heisman has been more of a curse than a blessing.

the way i see it, the entire season is up in the air right now. Everyone in the top 25 has shown weaknesses. I'm a Buckeye for life, but we sure as heck don't look unbeatable, nor does LSU or USC. If the rankings were purely based on on-the-field performance, I'd have to put USF right up there with the best..and even with them I can't see their offense putting up enough points to keep up with the scoring machines at USC,Ky, or OU (I know OU lost, but their offense is still extremely potent.)
I think we'll be alot closer to figuring it out after this weekend.

Your saying that we don't travel and play non conference opp is true. I just checked Stassen from 2000-2006. GA has only played Clemson and GT away (not counting bowl games.) LSU has played Arizona, Arizona St, and Virginia Tech. You guys have played Arkansas, Auburn, BYU, Colorado, HI, KSU, ND, Virginia Tech, and Penn State on the road. I think you need to play those tough non conference games because over that same period of time USC has .787 winning %, LSU .778%, and GA .767. LSU, GA, AU, FLA, TN all have a better winning % than any other team in the PAC besides USC. Your next best team over that time is Ore at .67 and Ore St at .627. You have to play some other teams or your schedule would stink. We have plenty of tought away games IN conference. And really, I don't see BYU, Colorado, HI, ND, or PN St as that TOUGH. I wouldn't be bragging too much about that. GO DAWGS!!

    62-6 1 Natl: Actually it's two sir. 1-AP, 1-BCS.
played for a second BCS. You talk as if this was chicken feed. Can you name another with a better
track record over the last 5 years? Geez, if USC sucks what does that say about everyone else Also, The NCAA doesn't recognize a champion in div-1 football so any given is regarded as "mythical" whether it's the BCS,AP or whomever.
Based on that premiss, like it or not USC has been
given two "mythical" Natl Champ.'s. The BCS was introduced to stop split Natl. Champ's. But it is not set in stone so if the AP decides to give thier Championship to any team they choose that's
    thier prerogative.

Regarding the USC junk in my yard-WHAT???????
Because I call out Pete Carroll's success that's the conclusion you've come to. You are the fool.
what a lame statement. How your mind must of turned to come up with that nonsense.

Educated fools from Uneducated schools : How does a school get uneducated. Are you on to something the rest of us don't know-wow!, wow!!

FYI : Never have stepped foot on the USC campus.
I'd have to mapquest it to get there.

Pete Carroll as "GOD". That would be news to him.
So your point is that if somebody states how successfull someone is that translates into "you
think he's god". How do I respond to that? How you can jump all the way to conclusion is well?
I'm at a loss for words, which is unusual for me.
All's I can say is that's just kinda stupid.

USC players are not doing "very well" in the NFL :
USC doesn't do anything "very" well in your opinion. That's the whole point, the 101 basics of our whole debate that you won't get through your thick skull. FYI : More former players and coaches from USC have Super Bowl rings than any other University in the country-fact. look it up.

They are bragging about the USC Heisman winners :
Who are they? Name the post where I've stated anything about USC's Heisman winners. Don't include me to try and embellish your story.

I said USC is the "greatest" : Once again, name the post I made anything close to this statement.
How in the H**l does your mind process this crap.

You sir are the fool and from where you're sitting you would need a pair of binoulars to see
    the "bleachers".

    Pactenfugnoff,

Why don't you get Pete's pete out your mouth and get the lugoff out of your eyes. Sure PAC-10 teams travel more, but that's because they have to compensate for having a WEAKER conference. When you have to face top 10-15 teams damn near every week it really doesn't matter where you play be/c it sucks to have a schedule like that anywhere you go. Someone must be bitter be/c of the CAL game this past weekend. I will tell you a secret CAL has always been my favorite team from PAC-10, and I see a better chance of them going to the NC this year than USC. So don't feel too bad about that loss. Oregon is still definitely a topt 10 team.

I have no qualms about LSU being #1. They have been playing the best football so far this year. Here's what kills me. Last week they had USC #1. Now LSU goes out and beats a team that Washington would have been favored over by about 22 points and beats that team by 19 or 18 or whatever it was. USC beats Washington, in Seattle by three, and now they have ascended LSU to number. The average person does not understand this: but a USC win over Washington (on the road) is better than a LSU win over Tulane by 18 or so. That's what cracks me up.
But, truly, overall LSU has outplayed everyone in the country so far. This game against Tulane was the worst one that they played also. In fact, USC is performing at about the fifth best team right now. Ohio State, Cincinnati and even Kansas are all playing better ball. But, there are many weeks left and both USC and LSU have many tough games left on the schedule. I'm hopin' that these two teams meet at the end - that would be epic along the lines of the USC-Texas National Championship game.

I was flipping to that game in the UF-AU commercials, and I noticed that UW was wearing Notre Dame's uniforms. At first I thought it was kinda' cheesy-like, "who you fool'n?" cheesy...

...then my brother reminded me that Ty W'ham was their coach...LMAO!

...almost as good a "FU" to your old boss as Culpepper coming in to Miami and lighting up the fins for 5 td's

Curious: Any mention of that (UW wearing ND's uni's) during the game?

    GO GATORS!!

    Tommie T,
    Well said #118!

    Gaytor Stud,
Allow me to pick up the slack for TE. I won't go off and say we will smoke ya'll, blah, blah, but I will say LSU will rip right through that pillow you call a defense. Next thing you know Tebow will try to run and end up with a slight concusion after running into big number 72 and friends, and then the game is over. LSU 40 Gaytors 20. That's a bold call be/c I know FLA's offense can roll, but I think they will get frustrated this weekend and blow a few plays. Meanwhile LSU will continue to put the points up.

    eye of the tiger #121....
first off ...i am also known here as gatorstud..but when i am on my laptop...you will see me as FANofFLA.......

    back to your post...
yeah....defense is pretty skeptic...but i wouldn't count on running the ball up the middle much...better luck throwing it into the "HUGE FREAKING GAPS" in charlie strong's defense.....but we only gave up 20 pts to auburn....so the defense stepped it up in the second half....it was the offense that struggled.......and penalties.,,good god..the penalties.......we gave auburn that first score because of the roughing the punter.....well, we gave them a new set of downs...and they used it to go right down the feild on us....

and i wouldn't be braggin your defense up either......if i am not mistaken...weren't you guys losing at halftime against tulane...TULANE??????....try that w/ florida....give us that many chances early..and tebow will bury you guys....although i am wondereing about your "6th yr. red shirt freshman who is probably 26 yrs old"...# 72.....what the hell do you feed them boys...i swear to god that is a grown man in that uniform...lol

i expect a hard fought game w/ my gators coming out on top....this is tebow's grow up game...if he can go into baton rouge on a sturday night after losing at home....and beat the no. 1 team in the nation.....if he can pull it off....and i stress the word "if".....but if he can...there will be no stopping him.....

and whoever reads this will probably laugh..but if tebow can get big game confidence instilled in him, which we all know is there, then he will win a lot of games.....he is that smart, talented and tough......he just needs to win that big game on the road......we all still need to remember that this is his first full year as starting q-b......last year he was just in charge of his plays...now he is in charge of an entire offense....and he is going to have to mature into a bonafied leader of this team.....

well, i will be there to cheer on my gators in person.....heading down tomorrow night......

i hope it is a close game...those are the best...but, mostly i hope its a clean game and all the player on both teams can "walk" away fron the game at he end instead of any horrible injuries.....

    go gators...and hokies....

DmanLV you sound like a broke butt wanna be Al Sharpton! Are you mad at me? Can't we all just get along? Don't TAKE IT PERSONAL, it's only college football! It's strange you can make untrue comments about me...it's law. BUT if I interpert something you say it's false! Fact is you are trying o push USC as they are the best there is in Collge Football. You are addicted to USC/Peter Carroll. It's a good thing you don't live in Los Angeles. Peter might have to get a restaining order to keep you off his sack! Take care man and despite our disagreements you are okay by me, friend! The most wins in college football OVERALL: #1-Michigan, #2-Notre Dame *#3-Oklahoma, and *#4-texas, fact! That * means if the NCAA don't take OU's 2004 season victories away. If they do then OU would only trail texas by four wins. Fact...I never said USC "suck" so it's again amazing how you can determine a whole different meaning from what I type!

Hey Lennie #95 & #96 Hey thats cool Lennie, I glad that some idiots are worshopin P.C.I agree that no team is unbeatable and there is clearly no one dominate team. Every week some unbeatens will fall and some others will step up and win.
This Week other than OU vs Texas
The KY vs USC ought to be a good one
Woodson has the Wildcats in the Driving seat
How about those Rice Owls over S. Miss.
I think S.Miss had like 7 turnovers and still fought hard, kinda reminded me of another game Texas vs K State. Since Rice won does that make them a better team? not really, but they did win the game. Is K State better than UT? They won the game, but I'd like to see a rematch, maybe in the XII champ game. I knew Colo had improved and they played some tough opponents early.
The Cinn at Rutgers looks like a good one too.
    Right Now undefeated
    LSU
    KY
    Cinn
    USF
    UConn
    B.C.
    Kansas
    Mizzu
    Purdue
    Ohio St
    Wisc
    USC
    Cal
    Az St
    Hawaii
Some of these will probably lose a few and there are alot of really good teams with 1 or 2 loses
    Adios Tomcat

Lennie, If I'm Al Sharpton than you're Nancy Pelosi. If I say It's red, Your response back is "DMANLV" said the world's on fire. What's wrong with you. You never answer the questions and only come back with this overstated drivel about references to things I never said or we ever talked about. I may be a butthole but at least I don't have my head in one.

    Fan/Gator,

I won't make excuses for Tulane, but I will say I didn't expect LSU to pitch a shut out anyway. I didn't necassarily expect them to score 9 either, but that safety was a gift. Tulane has an outstanding running back and a pretty good QB. I'm not surprised they put up 7 points on offense. What surprised me in that game was LSU's offensive line not gellin this late in the season. I believe they are working hard to get those things corrected and they will bring it to the Gators D this weekend.
One thing about Tebow...I don't think he needs anymore confidence. I don't think I've ever seen him rattled and he should have some steam left from last year when he faced LSU. That should make for a GREAT match-up (of course with LSU stomping that a__)!
Like you, I hope they can keep it clean and display good sportsmanship with good football. I just hope to at least see Tebow rattled, even if it's just for a set of downs just so I know he's human.
If I were you I wouldn't worry about your offense, I would worry about you defense. Will Joiner be playing?

Eye of the Tiger #126...i hope joiner will play...we need him to play...but if his incident is more than what we are hearing and the felony charge stands...then meyer has to leave him off the squad....it is really strange (or just plain stupid) that we have had so many players in trouble w/ the law after our nat. title win...you would think these "boys" would want to keep their noses clean, for the program......but i guess since they won the title..that they think they can get away w/ things....we are starting to look like the cincinnati bengals of the college football...

i think our best chance is to get good yardage on first downs and keep that run defense of yours guessin.....going up the middle to run is going to be tough..but i expect urban to counter that with mis-direction plays and screens....defense has to play as close to perfect as they can....no mistakes..no penalties...

but hopefully it will be a good game.....

    go gators.....and hokies

Hey DmanLV who's butt is my head in? You for sure have Peter Carroll sack on your chin, FACT! You need to read what you type first before you submit it. What you say I'm doing to you, you are doing it to me, FACT! So if you want to come legit then we can be cool. If you want to continue to act stupid then you are on your own. You sound worst than Miami Dolphins fans, ya know going 17-0 in 1972. You keep bringing up the fact that USC is 62-6 over the last 5 years. I agree wit'cha that is good. But the NCAA only recognize OU's 47 game winning streak as the best, FACT! So take a few hours or a day to think up some long word to try to play yourself off as some educated guru but you sure ain't impressing me!

Hey Eye Of the Tiger (Comment #116) & War Eagle Atlanta (Comment #117), Pactenlugoff does not have Peter Carroll thing in his mouth, he is going python style on him. He is up to Pete's shoulders by now. If that chump paid $49.95 to listen to Pete Carroll then I know he really is a loser! He should have took it for a co-pay for medication for his bi-polar disorder! Besides let's not be to harsh with him. You got to have all types of fans post on here. You know you got your: loyal fans, fairweather fans, rude fans, Pactenlugoff just happens to be a "flaming" fan. So it's good to have variety!

Maybe we can find out something about Cincinnati this weekend as they go to Rutgers.

Small stadium but tough place to play.

I dont think they have the same rules about playing music there as the SEC does, they were blasting it last year, didnt matter what down or anything.

Made it tough to call an audible.

I kinda wish the Auburn coaches would pay the $49.95 to listen to what Carroll has to say. You can't argue with the success he's had this century, awakening USC from a two decade-old slumber...
