I don't get it. If USC had looked like ASU has looked over the past 8 games, the media and polls would have them at #1. ASU is at #8. 3 teams with a loss ahead of them. I don't see what Boston College has done as any more impressive that what Arizona State has done. What is the difference?
Should be a big time showdown between the Ducks and the Sun Devils this weekend! Any of you PAC 10 boys want to weigh in on this one and give us outsiders some insight on the game? How do you feel about ASU's treatment in the polls?

GA Boy,
Bro we just gotta accept that the BCS will stay unfair and unjustified and pray that the teams that deserve will get what they have played hard for all year long. Here's hoping to another Florida miracle from last season to a well-deserving SEC-team. (LSU probably, I won't go too prematurely here)

That's because we'll have 11 bowl eligible teams at the end of the year, and the SEC East has absolutely pistol-whipped themselves all over the Division all year long...
Wildest division in all of college football...and one of the most talented, as well...
The SEC gets penalized because we all have to play each other...Ranked teams that face each other inevitably lower their rankings as they go through the season and bushwhack each other...
Case in point...This weekend, LSU will actually hurt themselves by beating Bama, knocking them out of the Top 10 and giving them three losses...They did the same thing by beating Auburn & Florida...
It's nowhere near as difficult on your SOS rankings when you place also rans like the Big 10 & PAC-10 leaders do...
Heck...the Big 10's on a collision course to square off tOSU, which has-again-played NO ONE, and Michigan, who lost to Application State & Oregon...and started 0-2...
Gimme a break...the SEC gets love because they DESERVE it.
The Big XII fans need not whine...Struggling against teams like Iowa State and losing to CU, and losing to K-State & OU, along with an implosion out in Lincoln will render you less respected...

It looks to me that the elite teams of the "mighty" SEC are going to have to start beating the scrub teams in their conference. Otherwise, they'll continue to get "penalized" every year.

TE, not arguing your point about being less respected by struggling against a team like Iowa St and losing to CU, but can't the same thing be said about LSU struggling against Tulane, I know they won by 24 or something like that, but the first half was damn sure a struggle, and then losing to Kentucky who gets thumped by Miss St who was beat down by LSU. My point being is that the same team does not show up every week. And my last question is how LSU will be hurt by beating Alabama...If winning hurts a team, I'll take the hurt everytime.

I sure do like watching the SEC play. I'll take close, hard nosed football anytime. The problem is that all those teams play at about the same level, good but not great. Great teams win those close games, even when the talent level is even.
No one in the SEC has stood out as being a championship caliber team this year. Even mighty LSU is a couple of plays away from being a 3 loss team.
I'm not saying that LSU isn't a good team, they are. I just haven't seen anything from them (other than a very stiff run defense), that indicates they are better than any other top 10 team. Their offense(particularly in the red zone) is questionable, and I haven't seen them exhibit that great CFB myth, "SEC speed"
They can go a long way towards proving their worth this weekend, by dominating a team that all the experts wrote off at the beginning of the season. If not, we may have an old standby this year:
An average Alabama team -vs- an average Tenn team in the SEC championship.
And by the way, it's not a bunch of great teams beating each other that is hurting your strength of schedule, it's national powerhouses like MS St and Vandy beating your supposed champions.Lennie Collins

TE(Comment #9)that is THE EXACT POINT THAT I AM TRYING TO GET PEOPLE TO SEE. When you have a Mississippi State beat a Kentucky and Auburn teams then it is called "tough". But when a Colorado beats an Oklahoma team, then it's called not so good? I don't understand the hipocrisy behind the comparision. IF Iowa State would have beat Oklahoma boy SEC Nation will be talking about how overrated the Big 12 is. BUT if Mississippi State beats LSU...it's parity? I still don't get it! If the SEC had 10 teams in the BCS Top 10 boy we would hear how it's the best thing to happen to college football since the teams tore out that old hard astroturf! I am not whining I am stating facts. When Oklahoma and texas won National Titles it was just that. When LSU and Florida won National titles that's all I heard is the SEC is the most dominant conference in college football. Well I don't believe that and won't!

Is it really fair that South Carolina dropped from the standings after a overtime loss to Tennessee. I mean, I know Tennessee was unranked, but they are pretty good. Stanford beats USC, and they fall from 1st to 9th. We lose to a pretty good unranked team and fall farther than nine spots. That's rediculous.

Jeff Sagarin has SC at 22
their elo_chess ranking is 15th (what BCS uses in conjunction with the polls)
predictor ranking is 41st (best predictor of future games)
their strength of schedule is 27thThe Vandy game actually hurt them much more with the computers, the pollsters didn't dump them until the Tenn game.

In which, should they gain entry, the Tigers will more than likely beat the living crap out of whoever they face in it...
Just like a SEC team has done each time a conference member has been given the opportunity to play in the "championship game" in the history of the BCS...

Perrilloux & Odom will not practice until whatever happens, happens.
Personally, this is Odom's third brush with the law (arrested twice previously) since August. He should be cut loose, immediately. He plays on ST only, so he's not a huge loss.
This is also Ryan's third brush in as many years with idiocy...Funny money, fake ID to get into the Casino, and now involved in a brawl at the Varsity...
I will mention that Marlon Favorite's Band was making its debut, and a lot of players came out to watch (IE-Make fun of) him...But, even still...
My personal opinion is that RP gets one last chance...He sits out the rest of the year, based on what Miles' finds out about the incident or not.
He has the keys to a Lamborghini being dangled in front of his face, but keeps failing his driver's ed test...The kid's decision making seems to be sorely lacking...and its matched in its stupefying stupidity only by his prodigious playmaking ability...
Ryan's no longer allowed in bars, at casinos, or out past 7:30pm...THE REST OF HIS LSU CAREER. If he farts in the general vicinity of any law enforcement officers, he's a gone pecan...
I was not there Friday, but I heard he actually got beat up...

TE.....tough call, but i think your right....once les gets all the info , he needs to look at the big picture and discipline him appropriately....i don't see miles suspending him with the championship game in his sight.....i didn't agree with joiner playing against lsu, he should of sat out that game......unfortunately coaches can only go so far to keep their players out of trouble, if someone wants to do something bad enough..they will find a way to do it without thinking of the consequences......it is after the fact is where coaches need to take a harsh stand.....and stop thinking about winning and losing games.....
should les sit him for at least the rest of the "regular season" not including sec ch. gm. or nat. title gam....(if they get there)....YES HE SHOULD
will he though.....NO
but i like your chances with him or without....
from here on out....it's go tigers...keep it in the sec.....

Two things I don't understand with the polls: 1. Undefeated KS is ranked not only below OK, but below my Mountaineers. 2. Undefeated ASU is ranked below OK & my Mountaineers. At this point in the season, it makes no sense to me.
In addition to being un-beaten, KS did one thing OK couldn't. KS won at CO. Therefore, how can OK be ranked higher than KS? Since OK is ranked higher than WVU, it follows KS should also be ranked higher than WVU.
OSU made a strong statement winning at PA St. ASU made a strong, however weaker statement winning at home against Cal. As BC had already won at higher ranked VA Tech, here's my current Top 10.
1. Ohio State
2. Boston College
3. LSU (3)
4. Kansas
5. Arizona State
6. Oregon
7. Oklahoma
8. West Virginia
9. Missouri
10. Georgia
11. Virginia Tech
12. HawaiiOK, so it's the Top-12. I couldn't figure out what to do with the rest.

Out of all the teams in the top 10, LSU has played 5 ranked teams in 8 games, 5 IN 8 GAMES! IF you put OHIO ST., BC, AND OTHERS in those games LSU has played, they wouldn't come out with just 1 loss. If LSU wins the rest of their games including SEC CHAMPIONSHIP, then they will be in the "NC" game. I believe OREGON, ARIZONA ST., WEST VIRGINIA, OKLAHOMA, and KANSAS would give LSU a good game. Remember LSU is still a very good team, they lost a little glory especially on defense because of their brutal schedule. Playing teams FLORIDA, KENTUCKY, and AUBURN in a row will do it to you. GO TIGERS NC ALL THE WAY

Michigan shook off the cobwebs and is now playing good ball. I might take them over the Bucs depending on where it's played this year.

Well, the Trojans couldn't get it done. They just don't have the deep receivers that they've enjoyed in the past. Congrats to Oregon! They finally got the BIG win. So Cal had a chance to beat a good team and could not. I don't think it's over though. There are no excuses. It doesn't matter that Sanchez has had to step in. Georgia and Florida are playing with true soph QB's and Oklahoma has a redshirt freshman at the helm. It's not the QB that is the problem. It's possible that USC could end up 11-2 again and back in the TOP five. But, they will not win the Pac-10 or play in a BCS Bowl game this year.
I'm a little worried for LSU this weekend. I sure hope they don't suffer their second loss also. I'm not real excited about the prospects of Boston College or a Kansas getting into a National Championship game. I am willing to concede that if West Virginia wins out - that they may deserve to go. I would ditto that for LSU and Ohio State and Oklahoma. I don't think that BC or Kansas can get it done. Either Arizona State or Oregon could deserve it also - should they win out. I don't think Kansas can win four more and then survive Oklahoma at the end. No way! Two close wins over Colorado and Texas A&M tell me that. Likewise, BC has to win five more tough ACC games and then that Conference Championship. Maybe, but it will be real tough.
To be honest: I have never seen a year like this one in my life. It is incredible what is going on out there. I think that instead of thirty good teams - there must be around fifty of them this year. Ohio State looks as good as any team right now. But, there just does not seem to be any completely overpowering teams like there has been in the past. Very strange year. Some computer services have Kansas as the top team in the country. That pretty much says it all.Tommy Trojan

Hey Tommy,
Have you looked ahead to next year and the year after that? USC vs. Ohio St. two of the most successful programs over the past five years squaring off should be huge. This year has been a weak OOC schedule for the bucks, although the Huskies probably were considered a tough game when it was scheduled. Think of this year as the eye of a hurricane, first two years of Texas then two years of USC.

Michigan Number 12? WTF?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Have we forgotten that Michigan got handled by a Div I-AA (champ series team) at home to open the season, and then were embarrased by Oregon. Just because they can beat up on some overrated, slow big-ten teams, and Notre Dame, who has only won one game, doesn't mean they should be in the top 25, let alone, creeping up on the top ten. How can this madness happen?

Here is the Vegas "Top Ten" from the Wynn Casino Sportsbook. Odds to win the 2008 National Championship.
LSU 3:2
Ohio St. 2:1
Oklahoma 3:1
Oregon 4:1
West Va. 6:1
Boston C. 6:1
Arizona St.8:1
Kansas 12:1
Sou. Cal. 40:1
Missouri 50:1
Hawaii 60:1Obviously, with the West Coast love affair for Southern Cal they would probably have a line for those guys with 5 losses. BC sure isn't getting any love in Sin City.

A lot of questions surrounding the top 5 teams in the polls will be cleared up by the end of this week. The ASU @ Oregon game will likely be the deciding factor in who ends up winning the Pac-10 and the winner will continue to have a chance to make it to the National Championship game if a few things go their way. The loser of that game will have a chance for a Rose Bowl berth if the winner does, in fact, go to the NC game. As for the above statement regarding Michigan's reemergence into the top 15, I do not think there is any reason why they shouldn't be where they are. They are winning, which is ultimately what counts, and without their Heisman candidate running back in Mike Hart. Oregon is a very good team this year and the blowout was due to a mismatch of styles of play. Also, Applachian State is no slouch either despite the fact that they are Div. I-AA. Their style of offense was also a mismatch with the Michigan defense, which is a main reason for that defeat. Good luck to all and Go Ducks.

#48 War Eagle Atlanta - Ohio state has to come to Michigan this year, but I don't think that matters, the Buckeye's are still a better team.
I am not sold on Michigan at #12.....YES I LOVE MICHIGAN, but how much better are we than week 1???
I think the illinois game was most telling of how our D is doing.
Playing on the road at Illinois, our D gave up 17.
Missouri hosting Illinois, gave up 34....Obviously we can play solid D against a spread, but we'll have to wait a couple of weeks to see how good the team as a whole is.Go Blue

Whether your opinion of the Big10 is good or bad, the buckeyes can't change their conference schedule. I mentioned their OOC schedule because that is something they can change. Besides, when it’s all said and done with, I think people will realize this was actually a good year for the Big10. I think people just wrote the whole conference off when Michigan had a rough start, and people couldn't resist jumping on the Big10 bashing band wagon. If you step back and look at every team it’s been more competitive this year than ever. But I forgot unless you’re in a competitive conference named the SEC, then your conference must be weak.
