Ranking the top college football revenue programs
The good folks at The Oklahoman have compiled the list of top public football revenue schools, top football expenses, and top football profit margins for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2006.
Leading the pack? Texas is tops in revenue -- just as they were in 2005 -- but... not so fast my friend... as the Longhorns also have rather extensive expenses, dropping them way down the most profitable football program list.
So... who's #1? Georgia, up two spots from the 2005 college football revenue rankings.
Top College Football Revenues
Texas $60.9 million
Ohio State $60.8 million
Georgia $58.7 million
Michigan $50.4 million
Florida $48.2 million
Top College Football Profits
Georgia $44.1 million
Texas $42.5 million
Michigan $37.6 million
Florida $32.4 million
Ohio State $28.5 million

Dang fellas,
Didn't you guys get enough satisfaction from destroying the buckeyes last year? Albeit a buckeye team that believed the hype v. a Gator team whose coach UM (a former buckeye) who was turned down for the head coaching job @ tOSU
had his boys READY TO PLAY...Great job btw.Anyways, we could only hope that they could play again this year. Ooops they'll have to play Wisconsin, Penn State, or perhaps Michigan.
Sorry, we'll try to have a rematch next year.
Let's see how Florida does against the weak ass Big 10 conf. this year. They will surely meet..V/R S&G

#3 OU Ron-Hey man thats purty funny.Truth is UT Law has thousands of grads that probably worked pro-bono during some of the boys off the feild issues.Na just jokin- Check out the Stadium expansion in the north end zone. The Aggies have the second largest jumbotron and after the expansion will have the second largest stadium as well.
The Sooners better get ready for a beatdown as the Mighty Bears come into Norman. Now that would be bigger than the Stanford-USC or App St vs Mich
I would also love to see those Bulldogs from Ruston La. beat the Tigers, that would be a good one too. This season you cant overlook anybody

@9 Tomcat, Colorado is proof of that, but I really think Texas has a better chance of losing to Tech than OU does to Baylor, and as hard as it is for me, I have to pull for Texas to keep on winning so OU's win over your Longhorns will look better in the polls, so here it goes--Good Luck LOL.

Not a new stadium, but Ohio Stadium went through renovations.
The renovations were completed in 2001 at a cost of $187 million.
Ohio Stadium opened in 1922 at a total cost of $1.49 million.
Talk about inflation!

Tomcat (Comment #9) Be aware that Oklahoma will be expanding their stadium soon. When? Stadium Capacity? No one knows because the Oklahoma AD will not disclose this information. All he said it will be soon and "bigger' than Texas' 90,000!

Lennie, it seems a lot of schools have stadium projects going on or are about to.
Minnesota is building a new stadium - follow this link to check out their new stadium - http://www1.umn.edu/stadium/images_stadium/east_rendering_lg.jpg
Also Michigan is giving the Big House a new look adding 83 suites and 3,200 club seats

Now come on! You know that USC pays it's players the highest salaries in the NCAA. There is no way that we could possibly run our program the way that we do and make a huge profit. So, our bottom line is always gonna suck. Butt, we'll spank your boyz anytime they make it back into the Rose Bowl.

As with most schools, tOSU football makes it possible for the other sports programs to exist...
With Buckeye athletics competing in more intercollegiate and club athletics than any other school...
It's easy to see where all their money is going...

Hey M Go Blue...I have seen the Golden Gophers new on campus stadium and it's nice. Playing back outdoors will probably give them a good home field advantage if they can turn that program around quick! As for the USC Trojans...if you are talking about their stadium it holds 92,000 and is probably going to get "modernize" like Soldiers' Field did. Spartacus I dont know if they really pay their players!

We only pack about 90,000 into the Coliseum and you guys are puttin' about 105,000 into the BIG HOUSE. Seems to me that you guys ought to be able to increase player salaries and not have to suffer that beat down every time you come out here. Now that the "buck don't stop with Bo" - who's the new CEO over there? I suspect you have already increased salaries as you nabbed Warren right out from under us in the last recruiting session. That tells me that Michigan is finally figuring out "The BIG BOYZ play".

I can't even pretend that I was happy to see the Wolves finally land somebody who could run a sub 5.00 forty. But, if it makes you guys feel good to "have speed" that is okay by me. Donovan Warren certainly looks like he's gonna end up being the premier corner in the country.

According to USNews, here are the rankings for America's Best colleges for 2008:
Georgia: 59
Texas: 44
Michigan: 25
Florida: 49
Ohio State: 57That's out of 262 national colleges. I'd say they're doing pretty well in academics as well. And for the record, Oklahoma comes in at 108.

Those results are based on 2007 performance. Since 2008 hasn't happened yet, those results are clearly not a product of that academic year. The model 2008 cars are already out, and it's not 2008 yet, is it? It's the same principle. I know you can figure that out.

# 10 OURon I agree that even though TTech isnt ranked they are 7-3 and are in the top nationaly in offensive production. For Texas to beat TTech they are going to have to give it %100 for all four quarters and there is no such thing as a comfortable lead when facing the Air raid Raiders.
I'm happy that you are pulling for the Horns, because I always will be pulling against the Sooners- no conference alliance here like those SEC guys.Even if the Horns win their last two{ a really big IF} and the Sooners lose to BU, the Sooners will still represent the south in the CCG.
BTW yall had some purty good refs in that A&M game, guess they were scared in Norman Ok?
Man we all watched the guys knee hit over & over and the Sooners still got the ball, kinda the opposite of an OU game we all saw last year.
Congrats on yalls win over the Aggs

That's great that Notre Dame profited that much. However, the teams listed above raked in that much money by SHARING with other teams and without their own tv deal. Perhaps the Irish should start winning games and trying to sell more tickets

Just Public schools Do these figures include merchandising T-Shirts, Caps Etc Etc
I bought a Rice longsleeve blue & gray shirt with a real cool logo on the front for $3.00, they cant hardly give the stuff away. The same shirt in UT burnt orange sells for $ 27.00 and they cant keep them in stock.
Kinda hard to generate revenue when a team is losing
Notre Dame??
