    These are my picks:

    Ohio State over Michigan
    Oklahoma over Texas Tech
    Georgia over Kentucky
    Clemson over Boston College
    Cincinnati over West Virginia
Mississippi over Louisiana State (My Upset Alert!)
All these games really can be upset alerts!

Hawaii over Nevada in the last minute
    Boise State BIG over Idaho

Michigan oven Ohio State in a nail biter\
    Clemson over Boston College

Either of these results keep the WAC chances alive.

    Kansas State over Missouri
    Kentucky over Georgia
    Cincinnati over West Virginia
    Uconn over Syracuse

Two or three of these results would help the WAC gain ground.

Losses by Florida, Tennessee, Penn State, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin, or Illinois would help Hawaii and Boise State in the BCS standings as well, but are not very likely.

Losses by LSU of Oklahoma would be delightfully suprising, and would increase the potential for next weeks results for the WAC. Niether of these teasm is in danger of falling below Hawaii or Boise State with a single loss in any poll.

CaneNation #3 The Ohio State at Michigan game comes on ABC at 12PM Eastern Standard Time. ABC has a "triple header" on Saturday. Here in Austin, Texas we will get Iowa State at Kansas at 2:30PM and the primetime game will be Oklahoma at Texas Tech at 7PM !

    alrighty...let's get to it.....

kent - georgia......if georgia keeps playing well i can see them putting a lot of points up.....the key is if georgias defense can contain woodson....but seeing that georgia is at home.....
    dawgs win.......34-24

missouri - k-state.......i just can't see how missouri losses this game.....but after hearing about the t-shirts crap.....i want k-state to win this one.....

    w. viginia - cinci......hhhmmmm....why does this game bother me......night game at cinci....#5 team in the nation coming in.....i'll take cincy...

o-state - michigan......o.k tom. b.....the question is which team for the buckeyes shows up.....because i don't know what team that was during the second half of last weeks game against illinois......buckeyes should be looking to bounce back after the loss to the fighting zookers....but so will michigan.....after their loss to wisconsin.....michigan will be up for this game......but after the buckeyes take the lead at the the end of the half.......it will be over.......buckeyes win.......37-17

my sleeper for this week is vanderbilt...laugh all you want....but fulmer is under pressure to win the sec east....but something tells me that vandy will keep it close......a field goal will probably win this one at the end......so what the hell......i'll take vandy...27-24

so there it is....rip it apart all you want.....i'm stickin with it....

    go gators....and hokies (finish strong)

My apologies in advance for stretching the "open thread" concept here a lot--but I really can't think about CFB much right now.

I have to admit that I'm in mourning today fellas. Although he had nothing to do with College Football, he was a HUGE part of my childhood and adult life, and possibly that of other Reds fans here.

Joe Nuxhall, the ol' left-hander, rounded third and headed for home for the final time yesterday. If you're a Reds fan, you know what I mean by that. If you're not, you'll see what I mean in the last line of that article.

    RIP, Joe.

    Cincinnati over WV
MSU over Arkansas... believe it or not
Duke over Notre Dame.... oh yes
    South Fla. over Louisville

As it stands now there are 6 1-loss teams and 1 0-loss team (Kansas) which represent the reasonable pool of teams that can end the season in the top 2 of the BCS. Almost all of these 7 teams have a good opportunity to finish the season with 2 losses (save for Kansas, unless K-State beats Missouri) The way this season is going it is not that hard to imagine a 2-loss team playing in the title game.

i can't believe everybody is picking cinci over WVU

UC hasn't played against an offense as talented as WVUs this year

WVUs defense is 10x better than it was last year and the reason they gave up 31 points is because UofLhas tremendous receivers TEs and a future NFL qb

    my pick: 34-23 West Virginia

    Mr. McAteer,
I would put WVU's defense in the so-so category. In regards to why people are picking Cincy it is because their defense is good and even better at creating take-aways. Take-Aways, which just so happen to be the thorn in WV's side. So case in point, if White and the offense don’t turn the ball over 3+ times like they tend to do, then you will win!

I'll take Ohio State to cover the four points over Michigan. I think that Cincinnati will give West Virginia all they can handle. I'll even call for a Cincy win in this one. Georgia gets past Kentucky by less than seven. The craziest thing that I can think of (in a crazy season): Kansas State beats Missouri today. Missouri goes on and beats Kansas and Oklahoma. This is the only scenario that would keep a Big 12 team out of the National Championship game.

Watch out for the Oklahoma - Texas Tech game in Lubbock.
The Tech offense at home should scare the hell out of you Sooners. Probably another 100 point game.

    hrposon:

Oklahoma has one of the great secondaries in the NCAA. They also have a very physical defensive line. Oklahoma will score at will, with short passes and the running game, eating up most of the clock so that Tech will not have the ball often. Getting behind, Tech will make poor decisions in trying to move down the field too fast, making many mistakes that the Oklahoma secondary will take advantage of. This will be an Oklahoma blowout.

@21 Tommie Trojan - I think Oklahoma is the best team in the country. I also think that Tech is the most unpredictable team in the country. Graham Harrell and Michael Crabtree are as exciting as it gets.

If the rumors are true and Mike Leach goes to UCLA, you'll get to see his offense every week, and play him every year.
I hope the game is televised on the West Coast, so you get to see it.

I think Oklahoma will play for the National Championship and get pounded by LSU.
I've already mentioned that I will pay for Leach's airfare if he will please come to coach UCLA. I would love for our DL to be able to tee off on any team that completely abandon's the running game. That will be funny to watch as Leach tries to pull that crap off against the Trojan's.

    Tomcat:

Now, come on, I know that your not a dumbazz! Where did I say that Stanford would beat Tech? I said that USC would. Your not really gonna argue that, are you? You know how this game goes. I will say this, the reason your not seeing too many upsets in the Big 12 this year, is because there just isn't anybody who can challenge the top three teams (Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas) other than Texas. But, somehow, everybody got to skip playing Texas (except for Oklahoma). I have always been impressed with Texas and Oklahoma. I am not sold on Missouri or Kansas until they have to play somebody. Oklahoma already beat Missouri 41-31 as you'll recall. Kansas has played nobody but Kansas State.
And, I'm not tootin' any Pac-10 horns. I only toot the Trojan horn. I could care less about any other Pac teams and consider them all in the same catagory that I see the teams that are in the Big 12. USC will beat Arizona State and all normalcy will return to the PAC. Oklahoma will win the Big 12 and everything will return to normal there as well. I'm simply never impressed until you beat some good teams.

#27 Tommie T not too many upsets in the XII??
Do What? K ST over UT
    CU over OU
    OU over Missu
KU over everybody every game is like an upset, Not sold on Missu until they play somebody?
    victories over ILL,Ole Miss,Texas A&M,
T Tech,Neb, K State, Colo, IA St I would say that thats somebody, okay they lost 1 game -OU
Is KU for real? their OCC schedule was kinda weak then in conference play they beat
    OK St, Colo,Tex A&M, NEB, K State
I'd say thats somebody other than K ST
They beat A&M at home thats never happened before, they run up 76 against Neb more than USC and they beat Colo something OU couldnt do
They also beat a good OK st team
Everybody got to skip Texas ?
UT plays all the teams from the south and three from the north those teams change every two years
OU, TTech, BU, OK State and Tex A&M-south
K State, Iowa St and Neb this year
Your not impressed until you beat some good teams
Those teams mentioned are good teams
OU will probably drop another one- JMHO

1st and NOLE, if you could have heard his post game conversations with Stabler and Eli Gold you wouldn't think that was out of the question. He's got some issues on that team - lack of leadership for one that are only going to be fixed by recruiting and bringing in some fresh blood. I think we just don't know how to win. Don't expect to win those close games. Honeymoon is certainly over, but Saban and the other coaches can't catch passes or make tackles. These players just aren't very focused or motivated. I think that will change as we move forward.

Thanks. Yeah, I still think the new coaches are going to be great for the program and get things turned around. The recruiting class they're bringing in is top notch so far and from rumors I've been hearing it's only going to get better. Maybe that's what it's going to take - a recruiting class or two.

It's just disappointing the way we've lost games this year. With the exception of the VT game, we had a chance to win every other game. We keep losing the close ones and still can't finish.

I don't feel too bad over the VT loss. Heck, not many (if any) teams could have overcome the injuries we sustained during the game. Hats off to VT though cause they took advantage and got the monkey off their back.

    Tom #40:

Actually, FSU has a very solid verbal from the nation's #1 pro style QB in the country according to Rivals. His name is EJ Mannuel and he's been drawing a lot of comparisons to J. Russell, except EJ is more mobile. It would be great to get in some fresh QB blood that hasn't been tampered with by the old staff.

The good news is so far we've got some commitments from talented play-making WRs to surround him with.

The recruiting class is shaping up greatly on both offense or defense which is something to be excited about.

    # 34 have you been living in a cave with no outside world contact? Saban didn't arrive until January. He hasn't had a chance to recruit and build a team yet.

    # 35 in the postgame interview Saban said there are some things that aren't right and they will be fixed.

It's funny how people are already writing Saban off and yet he doesn't have a single player on this team that he recruited. If anyone was born to coach college football it's Nick Saban.

Give us two years and we'll start paying back Florida, LSU, Auburn, Georgia and I started to say Miss St. but I think that they have peaked. I can't see them getting any better. Hard to recruit in Mississippi.

I was not impressed with the first have of LSU's game with the doormat of the SEC. By that, I mean not a single win in the SEC this year. I said a week ago that LSU has trouble with punt coverage. BAMA exposed that and Ole Miss did again today.

In Saban's first year at LSU they lost to UAB.

The Bama fans need not push the panic button just yet.

Rome wasn't built in a day.

    4 turnovers in the game.

It doesn't matter if Bama is playing ULM or LSU.

You lose FB games when you turn it over 4 times!

It's one game, move on and gear up for the Iron Bowl.

Sweet Home, keep the faith big guy. I always enjoy your post because they are full of that raw emotion that leaves no doubt you CARE! Today, you care even more than our team. There aren't any Bama fans writing Saban off, but some of those things that he mentioned today that would get "fixed" have to do with guys getting in trouble off the field. At this stage of the season, with so much riding on each game it paints a not so pretty picture about the character of some of the guys on our team. Our troubles didn't begin recently - we all know that. What's really troubling about this team is how they have just basically quit after that close lose to LSU. There's no excuse. It just all boils down to PRIDE. When you lose to Mississippi State and the next weekend let LA Monroe come into your house and win. That's just a pride issue. A man with pride might get knocked down but he won't stay down long. These kids need to do a lot of soul searching before they get to Auburn next week because they sure as hell aren't going to see anyone over there feeling sorry for them.

Big Tide things will get a lot better when we see a true Saban team on the field. Right now he is still coaching a Mike Shula team.

Everybody has bad teams and bad games. The first game that Les Miles coached at Okla St, they lost to Southern Miss, (never know as a power house team). As a matter of fact, two weeks later that same So Miss team only beat UAB 3-0.

All these forum posters know that it takes time to build a team but they want to pretend that Saban has been at BAMA for several years and just can't get the job done.

Payback is going to be hell.

Texas Tech is putting it on #4 Oklahoma big time right now. Even though Oklahoma’s starting quarterback is out, the differences is that potent Texas Tech offense. Tech has scored on 4 straight possessions.

Oklahoma is blowing any chance to make it to the BCS championship game.

Now make that 5 straight possessions for scores.

I thought that Oklahoma had a good team this year. Their only points have come on an interception run back for a touchdown.

    Bama Fans,

Take solace. I'm not here to bury your team-or your coach-but to praise him. Say what you like, but you won't see a performance like this out of Nick Saban or any team he coaches in year 2, save for perhaps the Miami Dolphins...

Seriosuly, guys...Not sure if it was your offense or defense, but this is an aberration...You were obviously overlooking towards the Iron Bowl...

Saban will have you competing agains, soon...

My guess is that with a veteran offensive line, a dynamite sophomore running back, a senior quarterback-no matter what you about him now-, and a defense with two years in the Saban system, you will be 1-2 in the SEC West...

With Arkansas losing McFadden & Jones, with Auburn losing Groves & breaking in a new starter at QB after Cox leaves, you'll duke it out with the Bayou Bengals, meaning next year's game in Tiger Stadium will have much more meaning than even this past year's contest did...

This isn't tongue in cheek, Bama Fans...This is an internet "BUCK up and SUCK IT UP,"...You'll be back...and my guess is next year!

Lets recap - Michigan stinks. Notre Dame stinks. Now Oklahoma and Oregon fall. Why, no depth at QB. I have been somewhat critical about LSU the last few weeks, except that they still win with sub-par QB play. No other top rated team in the country can win without their starting QB healthy. Oregon, West Virginia, Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas, Ohio State, none of them could win without quality play from their starting QB. This year is screaming playoff!

This year has been nuts. Now it looks like LSU vs West Virginia.

It's too bad Missouri's loss didn't come from Kansas earlier this year (instead of Oklahoma).

I would of f'n loved to see Kansas go play Oklahoma for the Big-12 championship, lose and end up with Missouri jumping them to go play in the national title game. Nothing would beat seeing the "loser" of the conference win the "National title".

Scenarios like this are exactly why you have playoffs.

There is no dishonor in losing, but leave it all on the field. That is my only complaint about the crop of seniors we have at Alabama. The coaches can't play the game. The lose to LA Monroe was just pride and desire. Nothing else.

This has been the strangest year of college football I can ever remember and I'm over 40 years old. Just hard to really put a tag on what is going on this season. I don't think this is a one year trend though. Look for more of the same on the horizon as more universities improve their facilities and invest in top coaches.

Big Tide I can tell you, there are better days ahead at the Capstone. Saban is a proven college football winner and things are going to change. When you've been through several years of Shula football it's hard to get the bad habits out of you in just a few months.

Many of the people on this forum have dogged Saban all season for not turning out a national championship team in his first few months but things are changing. You can rest assured of that.

    TN loses to KY Saturday.
GA beats the hell out of GA Tech Saturday.
LSU beats the hell out of ARK Saturday.

KS loses to MIZZOU this Sat
OK loses to OK ST this Sat

    UCONN beats WV this Saturday.

GA beats LSU in SEC championship.

TX vs MIZZOU in Big 12 championship. TX wins

It would have to be an 11-2 DAWGS vs an 11-1 Ohio St in the National Championship game.

(Sweet Home Alabama) #68 - I still expect Oklahoma to win the Big 12 Championship game, I expect Bradford to be ok for that game. If that is the case Missouri and Kansas are out. Of course that is how I expect things to happen, and with the season going the way it has there is no way of knowing. So ~if~ Oklahoma wins Big 12 that would allow West Virginia to jump to #2. There would be no other way for West Virginia to jump to #2.

(OU-Ron) #74 - I agree with you. It would be great to see Kansas, an unranked team at the beginning of the year, win the Big 12 Championship and play for the NC. I think that game against Mizzou will let us know what they really have. From what I have seen they will likely do it (beat MIzzou). Not sure why, but I still think that Oklahoma wins the Big 12 championship game though.

Sweet Home. I agree with better days. Saban will get things straight. He is still finding out which players he can count on, etc. We all know that some guys are "gamers" and some guys are "practice studs." Give me a walk on with blood in his eye over some silk panties 5 star that can't hold on to the damn ball. Remember what they say in Texas, "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog." I'm not worried about the size of the fight in Saban. From what I hear that guy lives football. He's our guy. We just need to find out who REALLY wants to play.

On another note entirely, did anyone see that documentary on HBO about the Michigan vs. Ohio State rivalry? That was good stuff. I loved the part about Woody Hayes not stepping across the 50 yard line in warm ups. He would send an assistant over to Bo Schem (can't spell his name??) and tell him he was ready to shake hands. Woody wasn't about to step on enemy ground. I didn't realize that Bo coached on Woody's staff at Miami of Ohio. That was one hell of a rivalry. Looks like the Les Miles show is about to kick off up in the Big 10. Carr stepping down tomorrow morning at 10am from all the reports. Good luck to Carr, he's a good man. I would be concerned about his role in the athletic department if I was a Michigan fan. I don't think he and Miles exchange Christmas cards.

What an absolutely strange year for college football.
All the more reason to have the conferences put their champion forward and play it out on the field.
Ohio state is still as good as anyone in my opinion. several teams deserve a shot including West Virginia,Kansas.
Dispite Bamas recent collapse im sure they will give us all we can handle this week. Should be a slug fest for two programs trying to regroup.

Good luck Bama fans brighter days are ahead im sure.
Saban has a great class of recruits lined up for next year. Never was sure if he could have a lot of success with this group.
Sec is so stacked for the next couple of years that who knows who will win.

Big Tide this is a weeding out time. Saban is finding out who really wants to play for the Crimson Tide and who doesn't have the guts to step up and perform at the high level that he demands.

I'm not concerned about the future. I am however making mental notes of people who will have to drink some of that shut up juice when that Tide starts to roll.
