Is Santa bringing a new coach?
A quick roundup of the latest in the coaching searches....
WEST VIRGINIA
Future FSU head coach Jimbo Fisher - whom many had linked to the WVU search (despite my cautioning to look elsewhere) - stated unequivocally that he is not a candidate for the Mountaineers job.
"I know media reports are circulating regarding the possibility of West Virginia's head coaching position. I am a native of West Virginia and love the state but I want to make clear that I am staying at Florida State. I am committed to this university, this program and these players. I am excited about where I am and where Seminole football is headed."
SMU
In what I can only describe as a hail mary of a public relations move, the Dallas Morning News cites sources close to SMU as saying the Mustangs interested in Hawaii's June Jones. I don't put a whole lot of faith in the report. It's something akin to saying that men are interested in the SI swimsuit issue. But, as the DMN points out, Jones' contract ends next summer. SMU has the cash and the facilities that Hawaii lacks, but... still.
SMU has also interviewed Larry Coker and Dennis Franchione.
UCLA
All signs point to... ((gulp))... Rick Neuheisel as the next Bruins coach. Unless "Slick Rick" has changed his stripes, UCLA seems bound and determined to become the next program left in shambles post-Neuheisel. There are still others in the mix -- Temple's Al Golden got a second interview -- but it looks like Neuheisel's gig.

I know you really want to keep Fisher and love posting that he's not a candidate for the WVU job;)
However, just a little insight for ya:).......My sources tell me that Fisher was a gnats azz from being our new HC. The word is that a deal was indeed "reached" and our Pres. and AD(Ed Pastilong)had agreed to pay all of the 2.5 mil buyout.When Fisher heard this it was then a "done deal". However, Ed Pastilong being the idiot AD that he is decided to give Jimbo a call just before any more talks resumed and "word" is that ED asked Jimbo if he'd be willing to pay "any" of the 2.5 mil himself.....of course Jimbo said hell nah and thus the talks ended abruptly. Take that FWIW.
I personally think Ed Pastilong is a nincompoop but others will defend him till the end.

There's no question that the 'Eers made contact with his agent and I can't dispute the rest of what you are saying except to say that the "done deal" portion may have been a little glass half full optimism.

Since the Big Tuna is now the VP of football operations with the Dolphins, I'll throw this out there to see what reactions this gets.
Charlie Weis the next head coach at Miami? He did work for Parcells at one time.
Will it happen? No. But if it did, would it make Weis, Charlie Tuna?

We can only hope. So, for those teams in need, best wishes for the right HC and staff to bring to your respective programs success, or continued success, and beyond.
