Weis, Richt among coaches headed to Middle East
Charlie Weis has a reputation of being a good recruiter. Ditto for Miami Hurricanes coach Randy Shannon. But neither is looking to do any recruiting during their next trip... to the Middle East.
Weis, Shannon, Georgia's Mark Richt, Auburn's Tommy Tuberville and Yale's Jack Siedlecki are headed to Kuwait this May to meet with U.S. troops and participate in some clinics, according to ESPN.
"I'm thrilled to do it," Shannon told The Associated Press Wednesday. "I mean, you get to go over and support the people over there in the military. And most of the coaches kind of know each other: Mark Richt attended the University of Miami, Tommy Tuberville coached with me, Charlie Weis I know from the NFL. Everybody's excited about it and we're going over to support the people that support us."
The coaches will meet with and conduct question-and-answer sessions with US troops, but they will also coach several flag football games while in the Middle East.
The trip is sponsored by Armed Forces Entertainment."College football is an All-American sport. It truly showcases the drive, determination and teamwork that is similar to the U.S. Armed Forces," said Air Force Colonel Edward Shock, Chief of Armed Forces Entertainment. "We are proud to bring this tour to our military men and women and my hat goes off to these coaches for spending their downtime with our troops."

Thanks Kev For a positive off-season thread. These men should be commended for their efforts in support of our armed forces personnel.
God bless our troops
Thanks
P.S. Coach Weis is good people and he supports the beef industry by eating cheesburgers, he was also a teammate of Joe Montana who speaks very highly of the coach. Like Lennie said we can only wait & see what happens with ND.

O.K., my opening line,(cough..ahem..) "Cheeseburger Charlie is so fa".....huh.....OH this isn't the try-out for the new reality show Last Comic Standing the Retarded Version? This is Fanblogs? A forum in which you discuss college football and the like? My mistake…...Don't talk weak smack, if you don't have the mental prowess to come up with a decent take keep your, grubby little most likely cheetos crusted, fingers off your keyboard. Lets all make fun of the fat guy from the school we all envy... the kids who laugh when old people fall think that’s soft. Stick to what most of you know best your, 9-5 day job which you obviously hate. Because your all on Fanblogs trying to live out your real dream of being Eddie Murphy, George Carlin, and (for you SEC folk) Larry the Cable Guy.
Here’s my take: Hat's off to these coaches for heading over there and attempting to lift the spirits of a bunch of kids who get an awful lot of mixed messages from home. There are not many people better qualified to talk to young men than a college football coach.

But maybe you're a Golden Domer, or an apologist for them at least. Buckeye fans sometimes swoon over the regional powerhouse, being that they never play each other. Even if you're a part-timer, we have positions available for ND spear-catchers after last year's 3-9 outing...
BTW: We were trying to make fun of Yale, too, not just Charley Cheesburger. And Larry the Cable Guy is from Nebraska--BIG SEC country...

War Eagle,Don't come at me with airport humor, especially when you can barely string the sentence together to begin with. You could have simply said, "Should have carried it on, instead of checking it", that would have been loads more coherent than that cluster f*ck of a comment you made in your earlier post.
Nice rebuttal knowing where Larry is from, like that somehow makes him not popular to a large portion of the demographic in the south. So according to your logic nobody is big on Steve Nash in Phoenix, seeing how he’s from Canada?
Not a ND fan
Of course I’m a Buckeye fan
WAR, Auburn football actually being significant at some point in the near future (don't count on it though even if they went undefeated, not to many people would take notice.)
And WAR the Buckeyes being the Buffalo Bills of the BCS championship game.

Hello to everyone (except the thebuckstopshere)!
Isn't it amzaing how some people have no sense of humor? Is there research in process that could help these painfully limited people? Is there a foundation I could send a check to that might - in some way - ease the pain of humiliated OSU fans and ND fans still licking their wounds and resenting the rest of us for having a cheap and puerile laugh now and then?
No?
Well let me be the first to propose the creation of the Buck-Nut Recovery Foundation.
Dedicated to easing the pain of college football fans who have their national title hopes dashed in sequential years (not to mention simultaneous basketball disappointment), the foundation will teach the downtrodden to have a sense of humor, to not be bitter over the laughter and success of others, and to sponsor first-class tickets for morbidly obese coaches going on junkets.
Please send your check or money order to Orlando, Florida, c/o Ramblin' Gator.

The "War..." format of your closing comments-- obviously being influenced by (and exclusively used in) Jim Rome's "jungle" talk show--just plain gay.
b/t/w: I agree with your point about the "fat" humor; it's a bit tired and immature...

To My Fan Blog Friends,
Wow, decided to check back and saw the hatchet job WEA got from that Buckeye Loser. Guys, I've said it before, but here in Florida I run into these people ALL THE TIME. Not trying to do the stereo type thing, but most Mighigan and Ohio State fans that I run across (and you can't miss them because they were the shirt and jacket combo - sometimes the hat) have a real hard time accepting that the SOUTH & SOUTHWEST (notice I did not say SEC) are the DOMINANT regions in college athletics. There are a certain group of people that live in the Big 10 region that really think, deep down, that they are bette than the rest of the country and they will go out of their way to explain it to you. It is really bizarre. Most of the people I meet from the West Coast are laid back and while they are passionate, they don't seem to suffer from the same grand complex that puts them at the head of the table. USC fan will defend his turf, but what happens on the field does the final talking. Big Ten fan is lost in a dual universe where excuses take on a life of their own. (Ex. The bowls are unfair because none are played in the snow/cold. Can't count the times I've heard this one.) Lastly, I'm not trying to throw ALL Buckeye or Michigan fans under the bus, I'm just speaking from experience. Maybe I just happen to meet the worst of the worst?? Who knows?
I don't think we'll see Buckey Loser anytime soon, but if he's got the balls to come back he owes WEA an apology.

WOW you all have the same gumption/fortitude that Roger Clemens had when he went before Congress to proclaim his innocence. I mean some of you are really quite tenacious. I really don't know where to start but I will try to respond accordingly to most of your comments. Although I didn't realize how promptly I must do so before some are worried about my whereabouts. It’s nice to know people out there care......
Anyways, I do listen to Rome as most of you, but WEA, so brilliantly deciphered. I'm not going to defend the format in which I posted, because I only felt compelled to do so because, like it or not, your post are almost mimicking that show to the "T". You might not use the same jargon but if you looked at both Fanblogs and the Rome show, subjectively, you can most surely find the similarities. Here you all thought you were being original, when in reality it’s the same tired act, you criticized, in which you respond to each other. I was simply paying homage to the sarcastic forefather who invented this form of dialog.
Some mentioned how utterly distraught I must be for yet another Buckeye lost, you assume I, along with the rest of the buckeye nation, must be reeling and chomping at the bit to somehow rectify and bring honor back to their football team. Well sorry to disappoint, but I don’t fell any of those things. I'll clear this up right now I picked Florida and LSU. I don't have a blind love affair with the school to which I have ties to. If you understand the match ups it’s easy to pick a winner, and the fact is the past two years Ohio St. was out matched by better athletes in key positions. So no need to keep throwing an Ohio St. lost at me, I think some of you relish rubbing a win in, more than celebrating your team’s performance.
O.K. what’s next, Oh yeah I don't like southerners? Considering my company is thriving due in part to cheap southern labor on the contrary I love southerners, although their work ethics are lacking, when compared to the north. I mean it’s really now contest, it's like well SEC football vs. Big10 ball, see night and day. But hey you can’t always have the best of both worlds.
I was TE'd?
I should feel honored that the ramblings of a mad man were directed at me? Well here's one you can try to wrap your Einsteinian head around. I've been TE'd before, that’s right I’m really a ghost from the past just a different name. Try to guess who TE, a hint I once had TommieT concede a point to me after a three day, no holds bar, all out back and forth, debate. I mean this dispute had more turns than the Ohio St. LSU game, wait bad analogy.....Oh and that was sarcasm WARing Ohio St. being the Bills of the BCS. I was simply noting that one more performance like the last one and it won't be long before people make the comparison.
Ramblin'gator give credit where credit is due I brought you all back to this blog, and it was hard considering how none of you are easily rattled.

I have never listened to Rome's radio show and dont plan to. I have seen his T.V. show on occasion and respect the mans work ethic.
I have no idea about Rome's history or place of origin, I assume he is from the north, but I wouldnt hold that against him.He has found his meal ticket in this crazy world and I respect that.
Look Roger Clemens the great Texas Longhorn pitcher is innocent and to assume otherwise is unAmerican in my opinion.

Solid post; few exceptions:
1. "...I love southerners, although their work ethics are lacking, when compared to the north. I mean it’s really now contest, it's like well SEC football vs. Big10 ball..."
Bullshit. I lived up north for 3 years, and having grown up in Florida, moved back and living here again, and having to deal with transplanted northerners almost on a daily basis, I can say withhout any reservation whatsoever, that that is the biggest crock of shit myth ever perpetrated and/or perpetuated in American culture. Besides the obvious broad-brush stereo-typing, it betrays a more accurate and truth based stereo-type: northern arrogance. Well done yankee.
2. Re. Jim Rome: no problems with Rome himself, or for the most part, his show; I tune in to hear his "takes"; I tune out, when his "clones" chime in. The format he has his callers follow is childish and just plain annoying.
...and as for Rome somehow inventing sportstalk--you're giving the man way too much credit. Believe it or not, folks used to discuss sports--and even "talk smack" about sports--long before Jim Rome was ever syndicated.
He became famous for his rants--nothing original there; just better in execution than most. Therein lies the problem with the "clone" format--a bunch of wannabe losers trying to deliver their "takes" as if they were Jim Rome.
...segway to fanblogs: no structured format to follow. Folks are free to post as they see fit ...within some guidelines of course...
On that note, obligatory "On Topic" comment:
***********************************************
Kudos to Weis, Richt, Shannon et. al. for going to the MidE to raise spirits; genuinely nobel and patriotic.

The fact that you are a previous contributor to FB removes any "benefit of the doubt" credit you might have received had you actually been a newby here. The fact that you changed your handle before posting again (without identifying your lineage), indicates you did something in the past you are ashamed of and now you are exhibiting cowardice by hiding under a new name, rather than contrition, by connecting the dots for us.
You criticized several of us for our peurile attempts at humor, then you post something that might be humorous, might be serious, who knows? You have the arrogance to claim that you brought us all back to this blog, when in fact, we never left - you did.

I also heard buckstopshere is DB Cooper...
Oh, and buckstops...I don't remember you...Sorry...But, thanks for the insults...and for the fact that you can admit your team is as sorry as the rest of the SEC already knew going into the National Title Game TWO years ago...
Congrats, Buckstopsnostradamushere! Welcome back!

SoCal USMC missed all of last season, too. He was usually rational with his posts, but every now and then could just go off on a crazy tangent. Maybe he got deployed. Hope he is okay if he's in-country...
Yea, there used to be like three USC fans for every one of the rest of us. Now Tommie T is about the only one left, and he doesn't come around much any more.
Anyone seen Zac lately? He's usually courteous enough to let us know beforehand if he's going to be MIA.
Sweet Home Alabama usually leaves after the season is over, but I'm sure he'll be back.
Who else is missing, since we're doing a roll-call?

Et tu, Brute'? (Latin for You, too, Brutus?) (From Julius Caesar. See? If you hold on to useless information long enough, it will come in handy one day. Can't wait until I hit my late 40s and go on Jeopardy...
Brutus, huh? I might remember that. But if he was on here a long time ago, then there's nothing wrong with coming up with a new moniker when you reemerge. Now if someone keeps shifting back between two, then THAT's wrong.
